      If you look at the list of top 50 bars in the world 2016, 5 out of the first top 10 are located in London. I am willing to bet my an enormous amount of money that they all serve better cocktails than this guy does. Not that he is bad or anything.

      viperhalberd There's a difference between caring about cocktails and being a fucking Victorian chemist. There are plenty of excellent mixology places - one of my personal favourites is the Discount Suit Company in Aldgate. You have to look to find good places; they don't just find you.

    This is an incredible great cocktail! I have to questions tho
    1. Can you use a martini glass aswell?
    2. I'd like to use a blue filling cocktail so it's actually Ice and fire, however I have no idea what would match a strong burning alcohol. Any ideas ?

    • @resbalonso
      @resbalonso 8 лет назад +23

      How about Blue Curaçao for Cointreau? Of course, you would have to completely reformulate it because the fruit juices would screw up the color.

    • @jonaskurtsiefer8111

      +Alonso Castro But would it work with the dark rum (the high proof one)

    • @CocktailChemistry
      @CocktailChemistry  8 лет назад +34

      Hmm, I don't use artificial colors (basically any drink with bright blue) so I can't help you here. Maybe a high proof vodka would work from a color standpoint

    Does the over-abundance of flaming rum not unbalance the the actual cocktail?
    I don't know how quickly alcohol burns off when lit, but I would guess that it would be hard to judge how much rum to use given that its burning. Or am I just overthinking this?

    • @bobbytables464
      @bobbytables464 7 лет назад +73

      Yes, you hold stemmed glasses by the stem so you don't heat the drink up with your hand. That's the whole point of stemmed glasses.

    • @bupegasus
      @bupegasus 7 лет назад +2

      I believe the original poster was more so referring to the ring finger being tucked differently than the rest of the fingers. But yes he holds it like that because gripping it like a pole wouldn't offer any stability, so his grip allows his pinky to more steadily rest on the base of the glass due to the ring finger being tucked and not allowing his pinky to wiggle much.

    @cocktailchemisty The advice to have water near by if there is an issue with fire is a bad one. Water does not extinguish Class B fires (Class B fires involve flammable liquids rather gasoline, alcohol, and oil).
    You should have a CO2, halon, or dry chemical extinguisher that is marked B, C, BC, or ABC to stop alcohol fire. If you use water it can cause the fire to spread.
    Great content, thank you, I subscribed.

    Quick question from someone who knows nothing about any of this: Why the heck do you use the injector a bunch of times to extract the water from the ice shell? Once that hole is there, couldn't you simply turn it upside down to drain all the water? (This video is super awesome by the way)

    • @CocktailChemistry
      @CocktailChemistry  8 лет назад +7

      You need air flow for the liquid to come out (hence why coffee cup lids have a small hole punched in the top). Having said that, if you punctured the sides of the ball for the bamboo pick while the water was still in the ball, that should help it drain out without the injector.
