- Today at Alf's Mustang Garage we start a new project. We are converting a 1966 Mustang Fastback from a in-line 6 cylinder to a 289 V8. In Todays we video we introduce the car, remove the engine, and remove the transmission.

We want your thoughts and comments below. What kind of project are you working on? What Mustang are you daily driving?

Just wanted to say Thank You! I’ve got a 1967 289 convertible that had the original rope seals. I used your trick of running a brass screw up into the seal and pulling with a pair of needle nose pliers while simultaneously turning the crankshaft with a breaker bar and 15/16ths socket. After a couple of pulls I was able to expose enough of the seal to grab it with the pliers for one final tug and the whole seal slid right out! There are a ton of Mustang repair videos on RUclips but yours are really some of the best. They are extremely helpful and it’s clear you are an expert in all things Classic Mustang. Thank you again for all the content and “keep ‘em coming”!
Oh awesome thank you! I'm glad to hear that the videos are helpful. I'm definitely not the best out there but it does help me get better when we work on these everyday.
That's a nice lookin Duke boys Charger!
I bought a '65 T-code fastback last year and the very first thing to do was a V8 swap (with T5, rear end and V8 spindles). There's nothing wrong with the 200 six, but ponies gotta run.
I agree, I love a good running 6, but there is just something about the 289 that ya just can't get from the 6.
Omg! How fun! Going to be so amazing!
It is indeed!
I am so excited to watch this series. There is a lot that goes into ‘properly’ does this conversion and I’ll be closely following. Thank you!
Awesome! We are excited to do it.
Are you doing a similar video documentation project on that sweet Charger sitting next to it?
I wish I could film everything we work on. Just not on that level yet.
@@AlfsMustangGarageI can imagine. Curiosity made me ask. I’m more interested in
Mustangs anyway. Ha.
Nice to see you back on the air waves brother!! That car looks real close to the same color as my 67. Frost Turquise. You have seen mine before. Lol. Nice charger in the background. My son would kill for that car. 😂
Thank you! Ya I've seen your car a few times lol. Ya that charger is awesome. 70 RT 440
Will be following this one! You got my 6 working perfectly but time for more!
She does run good. A V8 in there would be cool too 😉
@@AlfsMustangGarage keep a tab of pricing on these conversions and let me know where wed be at!
Will do!
This is going to be great!!
Thank you sir, I sure hope so.
Cool idea! I will be following this swap 🎉
Awesome thank you!
Sad to see a 6-cylinder go, but understand why. I’ll keep mine though and I’m sure there will be things to glean from the series.
Oh ya, I love the 6 cylinder engines but at the end of the day, she is going to still have good old school ford power.
Awesome job
Thank you!
Use of lighting kit (filming) ..big thumbs up. Do u want to grease those bushings?
Oh thanks, the lighting definitely helps! Which bushings are you referring to?
Good video. My question is what are going to do with all those 6 cylinder parts?
A lot of them look better than the ones on my car. Sure could use some……
They are all available for sale. You're more than welcome to call me about it.
Where do you get the back ends ? You should make a list for it I’m tryna do the same with my 65
I have a 289 conversion that was done by the previous owner on a 67 Mustang. There’s been a fire under the hood so I need to replace the wiring harness. Do I need to use the harness for the original I6 or the V8? The previous owner had installed a Painless Power harness but I don’t know which one they used.
UGH!!!! I want to see the suspension rebuild!!!!!
That video won't be ready for a while. In the meantime, you can watch this, ruclips.net/video/AtRKWIe_6Lg/видео.html
I know. When you work for JG Wentworth, you always want it now!!!!
Very nice fastback. Looks like she is taking care of it. Are any take off parts gonna be sold?
Yes, everything will be available. 6 cylinder, c4, rear end, steering, everything lol
@@AlfsMustangGarage i have had a tuff time with carb linkage on a 67 i6 with stock carb. I found pieces on an old falcon i am trying to make work.
How much would something like this cost? Would the original manual work with the 289?
I just purchased my grandfathers 67 coupe. And want to start doing this exact project ! Do you suggest a 289 or 302 ? Also do you recommend a place for me to purchase the engine ,trans , and rear end? Absolutely love your vidoes theyre so informative and so well filmed!
Oh wow that sounds exciting! As far as what engine, that's up to you. If you want a good running cruiser, you can get that out of either 289 or 302. I don't think there is an advantage over one or the other. As far as where to get all your drivetrain, we just built ours. I can do the same for you.
I had a quedtion for you. So my 67 mustang resistant wire is testing 2.8ohms and my coil is over 2.5ohms. I keep burning the mallory module on the dist . Do u recomend bypassing the pink resisting wire? I think the totalling ohms is higher than spec and its just frustrating
I would probably try to pull up the instructions for your particular module and see how they want it wired up.
Another question would it be better to get my stang running before conversion or just start the conversion into the 289
Well I suppose that depends on your end goals with the car. If you ultimately want to convert to a 289, then why put time and money into the 6 cylinder? I guess if you have the means, and finances to convert now, then go for it.
@@AlfsMustangGarage I want it to be a v8 that’s my end goal dual exhaust
It needs a Windsor, IMO.
That's what she is getting.
Where do you get the back ends ? You should make a list for it I’m tryna do the same with my 65
We found an original 8" housing from Ebay. Built the internals from parts from Quick Performance.
