Imagine the emotions of going through a divorce after finding out your husband cheated. Then writing this song from the other woman's point of veiw. It's heartbreaking and courageous at the same time. Kristian had a really hard time with watching her go through this. He put a stop to it when they suggested another take. For their fun side react to Stuck like glue.
I have watched many reactions to this song. You are the first that actually caught the turn in the song. When she goes from "I'm down on my knees" wanting him to stay with her, to "I'm up off my knees" telling him to stay with his wife. Well Done! She's an outstanding vocalist. Peace
I love this song. Fun fact me and "the other woman" are now raising my/our kids together and our ex has dipped out and isnt around. We grew a bond out of the trama he put us both through.
With this song, Jennifer became the second woman in CMA history to receive an award for both writing and performing a song she wrote. The CMA honored her with a tribute in 2011 and acknowledged that achievement.
@@nightmaremikel I don't know. After hearing her sing "Let It Go" with Idina Menzel, duets with Josh Groban, "Bohemian Rhapsody", and other things, she's pretty amazing.
I cried the first time I saw this video and I love this song so much. Though, it being written from the perspective of the "other woman" is an interesting turn. Excellent reaction, as always 👌
The problem they ran into doing this video wasn't Jennifer's emotions but Kristen. He's very protective of Jennifer and knowing about her divorce and her husband cheating, he couldn't keep his emotions under control. There is one shot of him where he looks away from the camera and you can see the emotions in his eyes. Stripping this video down to just them is brilliant and adds to the emotions of the song.
Although it is written from the part of the “other woman” she was in the middle of separating from her husband when the video was shot, so the emotions you see were all real.
She is indeed underrated actually. This is my favourite song of theirs. Love the bridge and last chorus particularly, and you hit the nail on the head on the song’s meaning. Thanks for reacting Anton!
Killer song and when I learned about the story behind it....even more killer. Props to her and being willing to put together a great song out of a not so good situation
I love her voice! To be she has that depth and richness, like Wynonna Judd,Cher,Annie Lennox, where it sounds like they're singing from life experience and heart, not techniques and training lessons.
I’ve been on both sides. It’s such a relatable song in a very painful, emotional way. It makes you feel. She makes you feel. Wonderful reaction and commentary after.
That song and especially the video hits you right in the feels. I love the raw emotion by Jennifer and how she’s hurting, begs him to stay with her, but develops strength as the song progresses until she tells him to stay away. This topic may be uncomfortable for some but Country tells it like it is and if there’s any emotion that you’re dealing with, this genre will bottle those feelings up and make music that will hopefully help you. Great songs along the lines of this one, about infidelity, realizing your mistakes, or even getting the courage to break free from a damaging relationship are All These Years by Sawyer Brown; Promises, Reasons I Cheat, and Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart by Randy Travis; It’s Your Call by Reba McEntire; and You Were Mine by the Dixie Chicks. Man, I’d love for you to react to those songs!!! Thank you, we appreciate what you’re doing and for taking our requests!
Jennifer was in the middle of a divorce from a cheating husband when she wrote this. She said there were other songs from the wife's point of view so she just decided to write from the other woman. They had to stop filming a few times she was crying trying to sing it.
When I first heard ""Baby Girl"' Jennifers first single off her debut album. I immediately loved Jens phenomenal voice and bought the CD and I took a few friends to see her concert in Merrivile Indiana. ❤️. Great experience.
Far from her debut. From Soul Miners Daughter to Jennifer Nettles Band, she had been performing for at least a decade and releasing CDs before Sugarland took off.
Was Anton able to watch the video while he listened to it, because the amazing thing about this video was when the song continued while she was breaking down! Heart breaking!
Sugarland and Jennifer Nettles have so many amazing songs. She writes most of the songs and has a couple solo albums. Her voice is killer. She can SANG!! The songs Baby Girl and Stuck Like Glue are a couple of up-tempo faves. They have a live album called "Live on the Inside" where she covers Beyonce, REM, The B-52's, and Pearl Jam. One of my fave songs...besides Stay... is a song called, "Want To." "Little Miss" and "Tonight" are also great songs that show off her vocals to great effect. She played Dolly Parton's mother in the tv movie, "Coat Of Many Colors" based on Dolly's song of the same name. The song, "Stay" won Grammy's for Best Country Song and Best Country Performance, as well as song of the year at the CMAs and ACM awards. She was the first female to win the CMA song of the year, which goes to the writer. Unlove you, That Girl, and Sugar are a few of her solo hits.
Jennifer has an incredible voice and puts her entire self into her performances. The first time I saw this music video, I thought she demonstrated acting ability that could make her a star in Hollywood as well as Nashville. I remember her in "Coat of Many Colors" and I thought she did a great job. IMDB says she has had a few other small parts. I hope she expands her acting as well as her music.
Wonderful request Melanie❤️. I' LOVE Jennifer Nettles.and this incredible song. JOEY, Baby Girl, Something More, Babe, Who says you can't go home. ( Duet with Bon Jovi) are just a few of my favorites ❤️

Yeah, just wow, that sums up the song and her voice. I'd never had one of their albums or heard much of Sugarlands music, but on the merits of this song and video alone I bought the cd and loved everything on it. Great voice, great group, great heart.

Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles Solves Fan-Fueled Mysteries! None of the rumors that have been swirling around her emotion-packed smash, 'Stay' are true either -- that Jennifer is that 'other woman' begging her man to stay. But because she tears up each time she sings it, her audience tends to tear up right along with her. "As a storyteller, I take that as a compliment," says Jennifer. "Fortunately, it is not my own story ... but as a songwriter, I enjoy writing as a storyteller, exploring characters and telling other people's stories." The other member of Sugarland is Kristian Bush, and although he and Nettles are very close, they insist it is like a brother-sister relationship and that this song is NOT autobiographical. It has been fourteen years since Sugarland’s “Stay” became the country duo’s first chart-topping hit to solely be written by the duo’s one-half, Jennifer Nettles. Nettles actually wrote the ballad four years prior to its release. It was inspired by Reba McEntire‘s Grammy Award-winning song, “Whoever’s in New England,” that tells the predicament of a wife who thinks her man is having an affair. However, Nettles decided to tackle it from a different point of view. While there are a myriad of songs written from the viewpoint of a person betrayed by a lover, Nettles could not find one that sings from the perspective of the other two people involved. The singer-songwriter noted that most people did not realize that even those who are doing the cheating get hurt too. So, Nettles chose to put the other woman’s perspective in a song - and the moment she did, she was overwhelmed with emotions that “Stay” pretty much wrote itself. Even though Nettles has never lived the track’s storyline, she knew the subject of cheating and betrayal is something many listeners could relate to.
This is part of a trilogy: Weekend in New England (Barry Manilow) from the man's perspective, Whoever’s in New England (Reba McEntire) from the wife's perspective and Stay (Sugarland) from the other woman's perspective. Due to the timeline, I don't think it was planned but a similar story is told from multiple perspectives. All great songs.
I love Jennifer Nettles because I’m a big fan of awesome female vocalists. She certainly falls into that category. Another fantastic woman that will make you feel her pain is Beth Hart. Her song “Caught Out In The Rain” Live At The Royal Albert Hall is incredibly emotional. Please check her out. Thanks. ✌🏼😎
This song meant so much to me when it came out. I was young and stupid and having an affair with a married man. I finally (after 5 years of being promised he'd leave) had to walk away and protect MYSELF. When Jennifer Nettles wrote this song she wanted to write something from a different perspective. She wrote this from the perspective of the mistresses feelings of hanging on to the man who she wants. He never leaves his wife though and she finally has to pick herself up and know her self worth. The things we women will do to find love. Gosh... So happy I am not in that place anymore.
