I do appreciate the fact that even though Perona is a villain and embraces that label, deep down she is naturally a very helpful person. Her immediate response to finding out that Usopp is so naturally negative that he is literally immune to her power, which makes people say they want to die, is to try cheering him up. When she finds an injured Zoro she not only bandages him up, but she also takes it upon herself to act as his guide when she sees how utterly hopeless he is navigating the castle. When Mihawk says goodbye, she breaks down into tears. That's also something I liked about her; her rather cavalier attitude when talking to people far stronger than her. Sure, she saw Moria as a friend, it's not surprising that she'd speak her mind to him. But Kuma? Mihawk?
@@Sebastian-ep6nw She was tearing up when she realized that he was always negative. Plus she does eventually snap out of her cheers, remembering that he was her enemy. To me, that says that her actions were sincere and instinctive, not duplicitous.
Moria basically raised her so she sees him like a father, kuma and mihawk are warlords so maybe she didn't think they would try to harm her as a subordinate of a fellow warlord
Sorry, but you somewhat overestimated and misconstrued Persona's kindness. What we see above is not an example of innate goodness. The things she does, primarily in this arc are merely intended to assist her in conflict as an antagonist. Don't misinterpret a character's cleverness for sympathy and innate benevolence; which is unanimously not the case since most of the motives behind Persona's actions are indicative of shifting the tides of battle in her favor. Much akin to most One Piece characters, where they commit acts of goodwill just to steer the plot along. In layman's terms, she is only helpful based on the conditions set by the author. As opposed to being naturally obliging. Above all else, the fact is Persona is an obvious a bootlicker in the presence of authority. She simply lacks self-control and has a propensity to submit to powerful figures.
I love these moments when an opponent has an arguably OP power but by pure chance, one of the straw hats either have a perfect counter or are naturally immune leading to the opponent's disbelief reaction.
Oda wrote from the end to the beginning, knowing how he wanted it to end from day 1, adding new characters day by day to thicken the story and overall take us for this joyous ride with him, he knows exactly how he wants to write every encounter even before the pen meets paper
So, on a daily basis, Ussop felt the kind of deep, existential depression that would put anyone else out of commission, yet still has enough drive to get up and keep moving, every single day? The willpower! The endurance! The strength! Captain Ussop sure is amazing~!
Agree, people always comment how Luffy manages to defeat opponents stronger than him from time to time but in Ussop's case almost all of his opponents outmatch him yet he wins.
Ussop's dream is to become a brave warrior of the sea. He just doesn't understand that the fact he overcomes his fears to fight these battles makes him VERY brave.
To be fair, he was literally "lying" to his dying mother in the hope his father came back at least for a last farewell, and keep to run around the village saying that same lie for years, keeping alive those painful memories
This was one of the times Usopp truly shined! He says that he is negative, but it looks to me that his mind or willpower was stronger then Perona’s negativity.
Usopp telling Perona that he is immune to her powers because he is an extremely negative person with immense pride and her shocked and horrified reaction had me laughing like crazy the first time I saw. Truly one of the most amazing hilarious moments in the arc 😂
So generous of Go D. Usopp to let Luffy be the one to take down Kaido. We all know that if he fought Kaido himself, the raid wouldn't be as dragged out as much as it currently is.
@@DarkEinherjarngl the sugar fight did seem a lot more forced than the Perona fight. Him beating Perona felt like a genuinely earned victory. Sugar was kinda just plot.

Hey in post time skip we have the hilarious moment of Ussop knocking down Sugar by making the funniest face ever and then using observation haki to take her down a second time.
I've been binge watching One Piece for the first time, and am currently in the middle of Dressrosa. I've always seen people complain about this, but for me post-time skip has been having about the same amount of humour, and is still full of very funny moments.
Honestly, the Usopp/Perona fight was probably one of the best fights in the entire show, simply because the entire fight was the two of them trying to gain the upper hand by messing with the other's head. Heck, at the end Usopp wins because Perona bought the fact that the hammer he hit her with really was as heavy as advertised.
To all the commenters out there sad that Ussop is depressed, don't be! My man is out here not just living with his depression but THRIVING with it. Bro was really like, "Yeah, I'm depressed. What? Usopp's battles are always so fun to watch cuz he wins with just his brains and by being himself. He always wanted to become a brave man of the sea, but he's always been that, he just lacks a lot of self-confidence for him to see that.
