I've lived in Michigan, Wisconsin, Oregon, Colorado, and Montana. I never loved skiing more than I did as a kid in Michigan, skiing Pine Knob, Mt. Holly, Mt. Brighton, and Alpine Valley. A big trip was up to Boyne or Nub's Nob.
I mean pretty much all those places you listed are terrible, Holly is awful it’s legit a garbage dump that they turned into a ski hill, pine knob is okay at best, nubs and boyne at least are worth it, glad you have fond memories though
@@gunreal8153 any day on the slopes is a good day, even at a SE Michigan dump hill! I've gotten 2 days in at Pine Knob already this year, and even with the garbage winter we're currently having I've had a blast ripping some turns both times!
The amount of blood, sweat, heart, and tears that Mike put into this film is remarkable. Thank you Mike for seeing this through, from one Michigander to another.
Growing up skiing in NH, and then moving out to UT and MT for 6 seasons, it was hard for me adjusting to skiing on the east coast again. This video represented the way I’ve felt countless time. Raw, inspiring, and funny. Well done TGR! Most ski movies make me feel FOMO. This helped me realize when the grass looks greener somewhere else, water your own lawn! Like most things in life, things are what you make them!
I get your point but there is plenty of good snow and terrain to be had. The Whites are awesome. It loaded with endless backcountry adventure. Have you ever watched Andrew Drummond? His is an East Coast backcountry legend. Take care and welcome back.
Ohh man, all I can say is this film gets right down to the roots of being a skier from Michigan. And how we are in the never ending search for the best vertical we can find and the most fun we can find within our awesome state of Michigan!! We make the best of what we got and it is truly an awesome feeling. I’m an older dude now at 52, but I still love to shred and carve turns skiing fast down the slopes of Boyne, Boyne highlands, Nubs nob, caberfae, crystal mountain, mt Brighton, mt holly, etcetc. And too many golf course hills from back in the day lol 😂. Thank you Mike for the awesome film made here in Michigan. I would love to make turns and rack up the vertical feet with a crew like yours! Best of luck to you and all your endeavors 👍 Keep sking fast, stay safe and have a blast!! 😊
As a Michigan Skier & Surfer, this film hit the nail on the head. During Covid, life was hard, and we all dug down deep into our roots to enjoy what this beautiful state has to offer. Great job!
Incredible. Being "out west" is not the penultimate ski experience and this truly captures the essence of enjoying what you have. Unbelievable good. Thank you for this.
Mike, As a son of Leelanau County, who grew up listening to Journey blasted from the speakers of Mt. holiday, and left for the west a generation before you, that was special. Really special. Thank you.
I just went to Jackson Hole, followed the channel and come home to Ann Arbor and find this video. Michigan skiing kept us sane and active during Covid. I grew up in Texas and learned to ski alongside my kids at Boyne Highlands, Crystal Mountain, Mt. Brighton & Alpine. We go as much as we can every winter and now love the sport so much. We’ll venture west as skiers soon, but will always have Michigan to thank for sparking the flame. This film captures all of this so well. Thank you!
Moved to Utah from Michigan twenty three years ago. Never once considered skiing there again until i watched this film. Always thought the dunes could be a backcountry spot.
Yewww from Michigan!!! Mt Bohemia in the UP is one of the raddest places to ride even after riding in Colorado and Utah, super unique terrain and lake effect goes nuts
Congrats Mike. You’re living the dream we had as teenagers. Those kids at Mt Holiday remind me of us. School, ski, sleep do it all over again. I wish mental health didn’t take me out. I’d be right there with you like it originally was.
Congratulations on another film 💚👏🏼 ….Soooo proud of you Michael and your adventurous , super talented and sweet self!❤️ It’s been a pleasure watching you grow up and doing what your heart tells you to do … now on the professional level. You have an AMAZING family that we love dearly ! Can’t wait to see what comes next for you 💚💚💚!
Relate to this on so many levels. COVID made me go wide on my game here in Michigan. I've had the time of my life the past few years, surprised we didn't bump into each other. Here's to 23/24!
Just finished the film. Excellent just excellent. The music, the quality, the narration everything. If you get a chance come over to Gogebic county. Plenty of places to explore and find a place to put down tracks. Right on Lake Superior too. There's some great places right on the hills/ shores of the lakes. Lots of water falls , Copper Peak ski flying Hill sits on some awesome rock. I'm 65 now , I used to be in a 'shingles' club. Finding good buildings to ski off of. Skiing between chimneys and steam stacks and avoiding the owners... Also a lot of old mine sites with iron ore stocks etc... Your show was fkn awesome!
Thanks Mike for showing that you dont have to have big mountains to be so pumped up about skiing. I love every day that im out and it doesnt matter if it is 300 vert or big mountains. The midwest is the heart of american skiing.
Glad this popped up in my feed. I grew up in MI and learned to ski there. My first time was night skiing at Pine Knob in 1980. Spent the next ten years skiing everywhere one can in the US and Canada but somehow missed heading to the UP. That was some great backcountry stuff. You should come ski Hawaii sometime.
I'm nowhere near a pro skier, but its the hunger that keeps me coming back for more, the drive that on a hot sunny day in the summer I can look at a mountain and envision the line I would take to get down, sure anyone can probably do it, but when I can do it, its a feeling greater then anything else.
Truly amazing movie. Mike, his family and friends could be my family, my friends and me. He absolutely captured the challenge, the heart and soul, the amazing comradeship, the outdoor beauty of winter sports in the Great Lakes region. Thank you.
I love skiing out West but I love my friends and family more. Vermont will do and that’s what jets are for. I know this video took a lot of effort, thanks. My friends are well into our 60’s and we ski the hardwoods of Vermont all winter long, you will be fine but yes you will need to slow it down.
Dude I cried watching this movie!! Fucking nailed it , thank you so much! I hope I get to meet you and trade ski stories, this is the holy grail of Michigan ski movies!
I grew up in Wisco skiing Tyrol Basin as often as I could, and would impatiently wait for my trips to the UP and out west each year. All paid for by working my ass off each summer, some of it farming. I also fondly recall watching the Schrab brothers at my local hill and watched their videos each year. I eventually slid on snow at Hood and Mammoth for a living before life called me in a different direction. I’m 40 now and this movie brought me back to my days of skiing anything with snow on it;) Great movie. Thanks for putting this novelty together!
Great film! As a kid growing up in Northern Wisco we lived for weekends in the Hurley/ironwood area. After the lifts closed for the day we used to hike and ski the tailings piles from the mines in that area in the 80's. When I heard of this new place called Mount Bohemia in 2000 I made a trek alone just so I could check it out! I've been making that trek whenever life allows the seven hour drive for a weekend in Midwest heaven! Now that the kids are older I can even chase the storms on occasion! I also appreciate the tribute to John Dee. A great soul and treasure to Lake effect snow chasers taken way too soon. Thank you for this inspiring film. Love what you have in front of you!
Great job Mike and company. I have been in Wyoming for 10 years and Patrol at a small, but kick ass mountain called Pine Creek in Cokeville WY. We are feeling the tug of home and are about ready to head back to Michigan, live on a lake and ski in the Boyne Falls area:) I will Patrol some at BOHO so maybe we will meet some time:) Congrats on the movie!
It’s refreshing to see such a down to earth ski film illustrating such depth and local culture. Really appreciate the reflection on the potential life altering risks and injuries relative to what’s most important in life. This film should be submitted to some indie film fests, including Sundance as I think there may even be an audience beyond skiers for this. Great Work!
Love all the Go Rounds music. Great playlist! Great video! As a Michigan lifer whose trying to hit every hill in the state you're doing us proud and making us look really cool in the process!
Love this film. I'm originally from down south by lansing and i now live in Cheboygan. Seeing movies like this from Michigans elite athletes is awesome. This movie seriously made me cry with its nostalgia. I'm not even a skier but just remembering all the sledding and those few times i did get on a snowboard was something to be cherished. Bravo. I hope you get to do more here in our home state.
Kinda like you, I grew up in Minnesota and headed west for baker, however, I had never skied before. Something inside just knew I would fall in love with it. 3 years and 100 days up there later, I have just as much fun going home now and skiing small resorts in the Midwest. Although there’s very little crazy terrain and gnarly drops, something about the passion on display here gets me just as stoked. If not more so. Seeing people hike miles in thick glades and wait all year for the right storm, just to hit some hidden backcountry lines, is just so sick. Love this shit
This is hitting me heavy, I'm 47 and in the past 2 months I've have an ACL reconstruction and had a full tear rotator cuff repair on my right shoulder. No winter sports this year, no skiing with my son, nothing but therapy. But that's this year! Next year I'll be back with a vengeance! Lol...I'll slay those groomers!
Breathtaking, beautiful, and nostalgic. Your talent on the hill and on film are both beyond measure. Thank you for sharing this wondrous journey of home, Mike. I felt this in my soul. 🫶
Thank you so much for this, Mike. This resonates at such inexplicably deep frequencies of being, appreciating all of this and all that is you wholeheartedly 🙏
Sweet movie, well done! Good mix of story telling and sweet ski shots. that was smart of you to avoid the “climate apocalypse “ message so many adventurers films are pushing these days. I’d still like to get a hard copy of this to put on the shelf, it’s an instant classic.
Mike, thank you, thank you, thank you! This was such an enjoyable film to watch. I am an editor and avid skier. This made me smile in both aspects. My 18yr old son is a Gilson sponsored snowboarder in MI and he loves making runs out of anything he can find. He will also love this film. Keep on keeping on my friend, this is a great creation.
nice work and props for making this from a fellow michigander. It's awesome to see a story about northern michigan and the UP and what it has to offer... especially on this channel.
2 thumbs up, great movie! I have lived in Chicago and now Minneapolis, while I predominantly ski out west, in Canada and occasionally in Europe I have done plenty of skiing in Illinois, Iowa and the UP and many trips to Mnt Bohemia with my kids and alone. Pretty soon my wings are going to be clipped for the big & $$$ trips, but I will skill get plenty of skiing and winter outdoors back home!

Western MT, Northern ID or Eastern WA. Anywhere in the mountain range and affordable land and housing lol. I really like the Flathead Lake area in MT or the Cascades in WA. 8 to 9 years and hopefully can move, KY dont get much snow lol!
Gosh it’s refreshing to see a ski film that’s not just Bros and their $10,000 Heli days.
Check out Brooks Curran

Well made video guys.
Right on brother! Live in NE Ohio I feel ya. I love boarding the lake side hills and watching the monster waves roll in.
