  • For Drop-dead gorgeous looks and a decent choice of engines. Not at all bad to drive, either, and a lot less common than German rivals.
Against Its not cheap, there isnt much space in the back and rivals are more fun to drive. Petrol models are thirsty and not as quick as youd hope.
What Car? says 3 out of 5 stars
A decent alternative to German rivals and a lot more interesting to look at. But as an ownership proposition, the Brera cant compete.

    I own a Brera and...
    1. it handles like a dream, the steering is so responsive, it feels incredible
    2. the boot is massive
    3. I'm 6'1 and yes my head is close to the roof but not at all an issue
    4. I love that you can't really fit anyone in the back, cos I don't want to be ferrying people about, that's not the point of owning it!
    5. the boot is massive for a coupé and the high lip and lack of 'golf clubs will hopefully mean than the golden oldies will stay away, it's a classy young drivers car!
    6. visibility has never been an issue for me, the mirrors are great, and seeing out the back isn't an issue, easiest car I've ever reversed or parked!
    7. on the interior... no mention of the beautiful quality of the materials used, the panoramic roof, sexy and well placed dials, the comfy sports leather seats, the large doors, height adjustable steering and seating position etc. etc.
... it's got more beauty, soul, comfort, passion and zest than any of the German or Japanese rubbish which these morons probably gave five stars! It was the first and only car I went to view when I was looking to buy and I bought it the very same day! Buying the Brera is the greatest purchase I've ever made and as for depreciation, it's easily worth more than I paid for it but I don't ever plan on selling it! I love it warts and all (if it had any)!

Hi, I'm seriously thinking of getting an Alfa Romeo. I've test driven many cars recently (1 series, fiesta st e.t.c), and then I test drove a fiat 500 abarth and realized that I need to be getting an Italian car, but I just don't like the looks of the 500. How many issues have you had with your Alfa? I'm thinking of the 147 or Brera, I'd love to hear from an actual owner of one on just on how reliable it's been? Thanks in advance.

The only real issue that i have had so far is the timing chain which needs changing every 50,000 miles, not every 70,000 as the manufacturer states as they tend to stretch (cost me £624). It's a beautiful car to own and other than the timing chain I've only had slight issues with the window switches being a bit ropey, mpg isn't great (27ish) and I no longer fuel it with supermarket fuel as the quality isn't good enough for the car to run as smoothly as it should. Also the headlights seem to burn out on a regular basis but I'm not sure how much the car is to blame for that?! The ground clearance is something to watch out for too, I've bottomed it out slightly a few times on narrow speed-bumps, high curbs and rough roads. In general if you look after them they seem to be fine but I've only had mine for 9 months so plenty of time yet...
However, for me it was a luxury purchase, something I wanted more than I needed, not a utility, if you NEED/RELY on having a car, do a lot of miles or need to fit more than one passenger in then I would probably go for something more reliable and fuel efficient. I hope this helps!

Chris Tully Thanks very much. I really appreciate it. I only do about 3000-4000 miles a year, so going by your word it sounds like it's something to look out for.
      Thanks again!

Just an extra thing I forgot to mention... I'd definitely test drive one because the gearbox is quite awkward, test it for knocking on full-lock steering because apparently that is a common fault and watch out for headroom which can be an issue if you're tall, luckily for me although i am 6'1 I have long legs and a shorter body so I was fine but can easily see how someone more in proportion might struggle lol

Chris Tully I'm 6"4, and I fit in my JTDM 2.4 Brera just fine. But it's the skyview model, maybe that helps...

Try asking an Alfa owner and they will give you the exact opposite of this review..
it makes every other car out there boring.
Alfa's are for owners that want a car with soul..

i just bought the Q4 3.2 Brera; absolutely beautiful car in every way...I really think all this talk that it's slow is unfounded. It's actually just perfect; a bit faster acceleration would make it vulgar - it's really a car of it's own kind; very classy; unique...beautiful - those who want 0-100km/hr in 5 seconds and less should go for the mainstream porsche or Audi though they really really cannot compete with this car as a whole...a true alfista from Lebanon ;-)

For a car that weighs in at >1400kg, I thought it managed those cones very well! I bet it handles better than they make out, double wishbone up front and independent on the rear, it can't be that bad. Stunning car, rubbish review.

I got my hands on a black Brera 2,4 jtdm 1 year ago. year of construction was 2008, non skyview model.
I really got to say, it still feels super special everytime I enter the "cockpit". the Brera is absolutely reliable (when serviced properly).
the design is almost 10 years old but I got people on gas stations and parking garages asking me about what model this is and when it came out. I like the most when audi, bmw drivers passing by and cant resist to leer at the Brera.
for THIS money u get an fantastic car to own and drive. plus it gets treated like a supercar (looks wies) at least over in germany.
the brera is not a sports car

What Car reviews are so "middle of the road" they have no passion for sheer styling and how a car makes you feel, not to mention how it makes others feel .... i have owned 4 Brera's, from the 1.9 JTM to the 3.2 V6 brute ..... All, and i mean all of them have always garnered admiring looks, conversation, and have driven brilliantly, including long runs down to the South of France where it performed faultlessly, they are now incredible value, and although getting on in years, a good one still looks the part on the road some 13 years after it first launched here in the UK, and show me somthing for under £3,000 that is still able to catch the eye and looks this good that many years later ? .... Sorry What Car, your review is the dull thing here, not the car !

alfa had the GT but made the brera just a couple years after it was launched. and there is a reason for that. A good journalist would have mentioned it rather than go dissing one one of the sexiest cars money can buy. :)

Lmfao shit engines? The 3.2v6 they use in this is one of the best engines ever made! It makes a beautiful noise and is pretty quick (not amazingly quick) but thats not the point of this car, likewise with the handing (which yes is not the best) the point of this car is how it makes you feel, and the 3.2 v6 is glorious, the styling is just beautiful (one of the best of all time in my opinion) and the interior is beautiful as well!

    • @Nakke144
      @Nakke144 9 лет назад

      Sam Power
The 3,2JTS is avreage at best, its a horrible GM tractor engine. The old V6 Busso and Arese engines were wonderful, and proper Alfa Romeo engines, not stuff lifted from an old Opel Vectra.

  • @ilikebackrubs
    @ilikebackrubs 12 лет назад

Nonsense! If the Brera was the best handling and fastest accelerating car for the money, the Alfa lovers out there would be shouting about how it has the substance to back up the beauty.
It's like having a bimbo for a girlfriend. Yes, she's probably gorgeous but sooner or later you would like to a have a proper conversation, but if it doesn't happen, for me, I would lose interest, just as I have with this car. I'll stick with my S2000.
