my brothers and I made this back in the 50. We used copper pipes and filled them with sand before we bent them. The sand helped to keep the pipes from collapsing.
They used to sell these steamboats in the U.S. Around 1940. They were called "put put" boats. Fond memories.
This is the boat from ponyo
Incredible! Those of us who know our history have probably heard of Hero of Alexandria, the Greek inventor who discovered steam power around 100 B.C. He made little "pop pop" boats almost just like this for the children of the Ptolemy family, whose dynasty ruled as pharaohs from the time of Alexander the Great until Cleopatra. Later on, magicians who served as entertainment for the Ummayid and Abbasid caliphates in the Middle Ages in Baghdad did this as a party trick, with the boats carrying cups of tea for the impressed audience. However, the information was almost lost until rediscovered in the Victorian Era by toy makers in Europe. What would be interesting is if one could theoretically make a full-sized boat that operated on this principle. Cool video. :)
Robert Corbell of course it must be ancient greece
I didn't know that!!! Thanks for sharing.
HOLY JESUS THE ACCENT HIT ME HARD ON THIS VID
So.. that candle would heat a 1/4 20 foot fridge copper(flexable) wire heat up from 1 end to the other ?
Hi! Just to tell you that I love your videos! Keep on with the good work!
Hey Roman UrsuHack what kind of metal did you use for this boat. I am doing a project in history on a steamboat and i have to bring a representation of a steamboat and am going to use this as an idea. And the project is due tomorrow!!
Thanks for this simple and working model.
It was very easy to make.
nice video. I bought one on ebay and it does make steam and power the boat. Seeing how you made this one is interesting and may have to make one for a video.

This isn't called a steam boat, this is actually called a Pop Pop Boat
too bad someone already mentioned that, smart guy..
+AZtek54 Well sorry, I guess that's my bad, I didn't see it.

If it had 10 pipes, it would not sink! Fact!

It needs a tesla valve. Intake at the front and output on the front.
White Star Line also used 4 funnels on Titanic class as the liners in its rival company used 4 funnels on their great liners and they wanted to look as powerful and elegant as them.
what did you use for tubing? I bought copper and when I tried to make the coil it flattened. Advice?
Lesley Poirier fill tubing with fine sand before bending and it will not kink. Blow sand out afterwards.
When I was a child, toys like this were available (made of 'tin') for bath playtime. (in the 50's)
Good work,yet again
Would this in a way be considered to be hydropowered, since the pipes are filled with water
This great!! Looks like FUN ahoy!!!!! Got Families with their Kids coming up to the Country and they'll love this!!!
I remember making these as a kid.
I'm going to work on one i can get in lol

this givess me an idea, what if i put the pipe on a boat and then built a fire under the pipe. That will save alot of fuel and money
Can any one tell the principle behind its working. just curious..
finally something i actually have the mats for in my house!
It is sad that we do not have childrens day in amarica
Could this have been built in Victorian times, using items that would be found around the house? Would any of the compopnent parts have to be different from what you used?
Yesssss it work !!!
You can't just pick a trooper old fridge because it makes the work

willieboy RUclipsrs came up with it? Lol pop pop boats have been around longer than computers. The principle goes back as far as Archimedes.
i was joking!
the first computers were actually woman who sat all day computing navigational charts in logrthmic scale for sailing captains in the early days of transportation. men did not have the temperment to do it. that was their job title Computer! still fun video.....llooll
Roman you are unique I build workable 'toys for my grand kids they prefer to be more interested in constructural articles than watching the crap on TV programs for children which don't make any damn sense to them whats-so-ever, because they simply cannot build the things shown manually ...

I guess you mean the pipe that he bends into a coil? He says he got it from an old fridge, so it may be heavily corroded or treated copper. Anyway copper or aluminium tube are fine, steel may rust away after a long time.
+Ray Kent thank you
