      Exactly the same. If you go to Wind Rose's Diggy Diggy Hole video, at the end it recommends "Hootsforce". At first I thought it was just weird and silly, but then I started to listen to the other songs, and then the storyline of each album... Now I'm hooked for life! HAIL HOOTS!

    Sabaton is another good gateway metal band. They cover historical events mostly battles and wars but they also cover stuff like the "Livgardet", the end of the swedish empire, acts of heroism, and great tragedies. They also have some pretty solid musical flow to them and are not at all harsh in tone. My personal favorite example of this is Long Live the King.

    Gloryhammer is absolutely amazing and no one can ever possibly convince me of anything less than that.
    But also I absolutely take this ginormous dnd campaign seriously. I am far too invested in the storyline to the point where I have actually cried during the finales (you can imagine which one but I don’t wanna spoil for those who haven’t listened). They may not take the songs to seriously but you can tell that they love bringing these things to their fans. You can tell the amount of effort it took them and how they’re willing to constantly go above and beyond to create these things. And that’s not even mentioning their skill on their instruments. Tbh I take this series about as serious as watching the iron man series or captain America. Somehow these nutjobs have taken over my heart and honestly, that’s fine by me

But while the entire premise may be cheesy af, the love and joy they bring to what they do is real. And that's what makes them so great. None of this would work if they weren't great musicians, either.

      @vincevandensteen2490 Год назад +2

      @@secretlyaspacewizzard Well, their albums have a storyline and the last song is generally an epic battle which translates to like the third act of a play with high stakes and big decision.. The moment of truth where either evil or good prevails. the finale I'm talking about was the one from the legends beyond the galactic terrorvortex album, so that would be the last song on the album: The fires of ancient cosmic destiny :)

    A great review for anyone who’s new to Gloryhammer or metal in general! I love the deliberate bad grammar thing. Bowes is a native English speaker, so what I think he’s doing here is affectionately making fun of of how most symphonic power metal is made by European bands whose English isn’t perfect. Fun fact: The “chivistic rainbow” line is a joke in reference to Rhapsody of Fire, who Gloryhammer take a lot of inspiration from and regularly make fun of. “Chivistic” is a made up word (which may or may not mean “like a chive”) that comes from mishearing the lyric “shy mystic rainbow” from Rhapsody’s song Steelgods of the Last Apocalypse. Bowes casually mentioned mishearing the lyric on twitter, and then later went and included it in a Gloryhammer song. It’s these little things that make Gloryhammer so much fun!

    • @rikosborne1212
      @rikosborne1212 3 года назад

      I could also refer to some of the interesting "non-standard" grammar in old hymns that was done to make a line fit the rhythm of the melody.

    Symphonic version of "Legends from Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex" is just a soundtrack to the epic movie you just watched in your imagination. Also, "Italian Folk Metal" is a perfect album for any Gloryhammer fan, with such lyrics as "upgrade mufflon with granade launcher" to defend natural beauty of Sardinia from rider of Ryanair; "always ready for adventure and for crusty bread crust" when praising mascot of popular fish stick manufacturer and let's not forget about the staple of Valentina's local cousine, Polenta Taragna, "a platter of steaming-hot awesomeness forged by Thor's ladle" and "a pride of Valhaltelina's couldrons".

    I've been a casual metal listener for most of my life and I found Gloryhammer to be a breath of fresh air. I had been looking for a new band to listen to for some time but nothing really appealed to what I was looking for. At first I thought that the band was too silly to fit the bill for me but it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for without me knowing it. The ridiculous tone is great because it's parody without being condescending and I like that they're just telling a fun story and not trying to send some sort of message. Of course this wouldn't matter if these guys weren't good musicians and they most certainly are. The added bonus is that my teenage son is hooked on them now as well. He never really cared about music much at all until I bought the three Gloryhammer albums and now , listening to them is a fun thing we do together

I'm sure you know they (Chris) have got 21 albums planned for this entire story. I'm so unbelievably excited for the next album. All the albums have done, since Tales From The Kingdom of Fife, is improve massively in quality, and I'm borderline scared of how amazing the next one's going to be. Power metal tends to be one of the most accessible subgenres. Jumping straight into symphonic blackened death doom is like jumping straight into Trout Mask when you're just finding Beefheart.
    A good band to listen to to get into more serious, less comedic metal would be Opeth. Personally I have to recommend listening to "Still Life" from front to back.

    Literally one of the characters is a Cyborg Barbarian ripoff of Arnold Schwarzeneggar's Conan the Barbarian who became King of California and a movie star, then self-destructed his neutron star-powered heart to prevent a portal from opening, tearing open a wormhole to another dimension, in the process merging with the fabric of that alternate reality to become a god before literally dropping from the sky during the climactic fight to drop a Macho Man Randy Savage-worthy pro wrestling promo before laser blasting a wizard into liquid dust. I fucking LOVE this band.

    Well done! I'm an old metalhead - I've been listening to it for 40 years, and honestly, bands like Gloryhammer and Alestorm are a breath of fresh air. I'm too old to be listening to a bunch of doom & gloom, angry music, or musicians trying to portray themselves as some sort of badasses. I absolutely love the fact that, these days, there are a lot of really great metal bands that are clearly just having fun and not taking themselves too seriously.
    Like I told my 77-year-old mom recently, you take a lot of these scary-looking metal musicians, remove the makeup/costumes/onstage theatrics, and find they're just a bunch of band geeks and theater nerds.

    My Ukrainian friend actually introduce me this band years ago. Not much into power metal, but this band is pretty stellar. Bowes pretty much is really multi-talented given he's in 4 bands(including one of them about his plate of beans) while still make it silly in the process.

    Somewhat amusing to me is that you wrote this for an english class, when I did the exact same thing for my public speaking class. The main difference is that I come from the opposite origin, I have been a metalhead since long before this band, but have nonetheless come to adore them all the same.
    Also I notice the Startrek DVDs off to the side, I have the exact same box set. Good taste.

    Seeing this video after the new album DEFINITELY has me changing the favorite lines I've heard... I mean... how can it stay the same when we now have bangers like:
    "Goblins! Agents of Doom
    Masters of Evil that come from the moon
    Robots! Servants of steel
    Their lasers so real you shall feel
    Wizard! Frozen in tomb
    His nuclear clone made Dundee go Kaboom"
    "Toxic dragons fly across a wasteland made from nuclear war"
    "By the blood of the sword inmy veins, I will never be defeat! For the eternal glory of Dundee!"
    And last but not least
    And really... the most important one of all
    "🎸🎸
    DOUBLE!
    🎸🎸
    WIZARD!"

    If any of you like Gloryhammer, you might also like other powermetal bands like Powerwolf, Sabaton, Rhapsody of Fire, Stratovarius, early Sonata Arctica, Wind Rose, Orden Ogan, etc.

    An excellent and insightful video on Gloryhammer.
    However, I would also recommend Rhapsody of Fire (formerly just Rhapsody), particularly their discography from 1997 to 2002, Twilight Force, Fairyland's Of Wars in Osyhria, Marius Danielsen's Legend of Valley Doom as gateways to fantasy symphonic power metal. I also recommend Stratovarius, Freedom Call, DragonForce, Sabaton and Axel Rudi Pell as gateways to power metal in general. 😉
