Ball python with severe neurological issues "hunting" - A test of his abilities

  • I got him from a breeder, and trying to get him strong enough to eat on his own. So far, no go, but his sister just took her first. So I have hope. This was a test of how serious his neurological issues were. An assessment of his abilities, and whether he could possibly thrive on his own. Unfortunately, he did not pass any of those tests, and was humanely euthanized shortly afterwards.

      Yup, and can even make them wrap around themselves.
      People honestly are dumb and do things for money, money is the driving cost for their inevitable downfall. Once they don't make money, they'll throw them and focus on something else.
      I get having money can grat you a lot, but breeding an animal with a neurological disorder and then lie saying "It's a funny gimmick!" But in reality it makes them thin if they aren't hand fed. People genuinely think anything that acts dumb is cute. Well.. For the snake it's suffering, it can't eats it's prey normally, the breeders are money hogs who only care about money and not the animals. You can care about money and animals, but if it's ONLY money, it becomes a problem.
      In perspective, image your a snake. You lung at a mouse and bang your head on the glass, your owner films you and says "aww, you're so dumb! Hehe" Not knowing you PHYSICALLY can't eat it without hurting yourself, every time you BEND you hit your head, causing more pain.
      I honestly hate people who buy animals and don't do research

      People are probably going to keep ignoring it, sadly. There are all of these ignorant new people who know nothing about bps and the spider's neurological issue is almost kept a secret. So ignorant first time owners will get the prettiest snake they see without knowing because people keep it a secret because spider ball pythons make money. That's the bottom line. No one cares about these animals, they just care about money. I wish what you said is going to happen, but I fear that this will not be going away easily.

    • @theothermother70
      @theothermother70 3 года назад +94

      @@siruswildes8384 I agree..if there is any change at all it will be a slow uphill battle. In 2017, the IHS decided to ban the sale or collection of spider ball pythons at any of their events. Also, they banned jaguar carpet pythons and enigma leopard geckos, which have similar issues. At the same time, the FBH (Federation of British Herpetologists) took the same decision. It took effect in 2018. It's a positive sign in the right direction at the least.

      @@smallandstressed2364 here's a few other examples if you want to know more. Bulldogs have similar issues to pugs, plus they usually get heart problems. As for other examples in dogs, Great Danes have much shorter life spans thanks to certain issues they have, and there are German Shepherds bred with hips that lead them to get crippling joint problems. Tea cup breeds I've heard have pretty bad problems, but I can't quite remember what those are...
      Also, super cinnamon and (I think) black pastel ball pythons often are born with spinal kinks, some of which make the snake surviving impossible. There are a few other morphs in ball pythons with the same issue as spider, but the only two I can think of off the top of my head are woma and champagne. Most people say spiders have the worst problems, but my woma ball python is worse then some spiders I've seen, so I'm a bit sceptical of that.

    For everyone saying “spider this” “spider that” it’s not just the “spider gene” that does this. It’s a mix of other genes at play with the spider, that can lead to severe neurological disorders, and mostly being all fatal shortly after being hatched. Husbandry, care, etc. all also play big parts in keeping your ball python from being stressed. My spider ball pythons I have, are all okay. The ones I have rescued showed more distress due to the husbandry they were provided with before. Now most all are doing perfect, with some others getting more TLC. Please do some research first about them before shaming an animal you’ve never worked with.🤷🏽‍♂️

      @@ToddTheSnakeMan damn man, that sucks, poor snake. Such a pretty snake too. I don't know much about the health part. But I have to wonder if it would be more humane to euthanize him. The only way that I would say not to, that's if he's not in any kind of pain. He looks like he is in the short video. I love animals more than I probably should. I raised an Alligator for 22 years and about 11ft ago and about 474lbs ago. I had him since he popped his little head out of the egg. It was very hard for me to donate him to a Zoo. But with my health where it is and how stupid hard it is for me to walk 50ft. He had a clean bill of health from the Zoo's veterinarian. I never seen him get sick or not want to eat. My boy Rex died 3 months after I moved him. That broke my heart and I never thought that I'd get attached to a gator. But I was wrong, cuz he was such a great animal and in the 22yrs of me having him, he probably only wanted to bite me 3 times. Once when I tried to ride on his back in the pond, then once he crawled under my shed and me dragging his but out by the tail and last, trying to get in between him and the neighbors dog. I was able to stop him that time and I warned the neighbors that he was climbing over my fence. They didn't care and Rex didn't mind eating him a couple months later. Lol. Anyway have a great day man and let me know what you end up having to do with him. Thanks.
