This was exactly what I needed. I have 8-1/2” front ties and a 16-1/4” back rise. I adjusted my pattern and made a test garment before I saw this. Keeping the side seam the same height as the back rise makes total sense. Back to the pattern to make this correction. As it is now I have a tall center back sloping to the original side seam. Looks very odd. By using this technique I will finally have pants that fit! Thank you so much for sharing this video and your knowledge.
My front crotch measures 11” and back 15” with a 40” waist and there is no line to accommodate this front measurement. What do you suggest please Glenda.
This extra 1/2" really get 'eaten' up in overall fit. Plus it is always difficult to measure with 100% accuracy. In my experience, this extra bit at CF has always been necessary. Your suggestion may work too. There are always different options.

I am one of those with a short crotch depth...10 inches. My confusion when drafting pants is do I reduce this to accommodate the width (height) of a waist band? So with a 2 inch waistband I make the crotch depth 8 inches? I think it would also affect the length of the darts, isnt it? I'd be really glad to have your advice.
That's correct...if you remove 2" from the waist level, it would make your crotch length 8". Yes, it affects the dart as it gets narrower the lower down you go. But in theory, the lower the waist edge, the less dart width you'd require.
The half is also part of "wearing ease". When you sit, if there is not that little bit extra of fabric length then the crotch of your pants will get very friendly. ;)
Hi Linda. Will this same grid method work for Men's pants? It's terrible... Son got the butt curve that mommy dreamed off, and can't get pants to fit. I'm so jealous!

Thanks, you have increase front rise to keep 'u' shape at CF, if we can't increase front rise how will amend.
