AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on RUclips are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!

I tried camping at Walmart about three years ago and there were other RVs there and I was asked to leave I’m not sure the reason because I did not do anything to be asked to leave and that would be very nice if they let myself go to Walmart once in a while but I don’t know what the reason I’m sure it was a good run and I hope I’m treated more friendly at my next stop thank you for your information and for allowing me to leave a c call comments

**parking, not camping. Please do not spend prolonged periods there as many stores don't like it. Depending on location, some of them consider RVs to be an eyesore.

Thanks for emphasizing the importance of being good citizens and good guest while at Wal-Mart parking lots and other places. Not attracting any attention to yourself and your rig by not setting up camp is only being respectful. I also like the idea of shopping where you overnight park and supporting the business that has offered the opportunity for you to rest without charging you a fee. If everyone would follow the recommendations that you highlighted maybe the opportunities for such overnight parking will expand instead of diminish. Thanks for taking the time to create the video.

My wife Wanda and I are very long time RVers. Our first trailer we purchased used. It was a 22 ft. Fireball. We will be married 52 years April 23rd and our children were two and four years old at that time. Things have change built camp grounds after the war. There was little work back then so the government developed a work party program to build camp grounds called forest camps. The camp grounds were always free to the public to use. Other campers were always very courteous and friendly. Sharing a camp fire was quite common. The users of the forest camps always left a clean camp site. The rangers would normally stop by to say hello and would always sit and have coffee with us and tell us where the fish were planted in the river. My son caught his first limit of trout at three years old with a little help from dad. Great memories. My son and daughter now do much of their camping on the same little Natches river in Washington State. Keep up the good work. We very much love to watch your travel videos. Bob and Wanda Prong, Olympia Washington.

Also have found that the best place to park (often by request of the management) is down by the Garden/Outdoor entrance. Of course we park far far away from the entrance, but on that specific end of the parking lot. We also look for other RV'ers and/or trucks and follow their suit. Always works out perfect!!!

Loved your video. I’m a long time die hard camper. At 63 and a single woman I’m seriously considering trading in the tent for a nice RV. One of the tips I loved the most, was “Be a GRACIOUS GUEST”. Getting older and having experienced a much younger generation of campers I’ve found that much of the old traditions such as quiet time usually is between 10 pm and 6 am and it’s really not cool to pull into a space and run your noisy generator or party all night long then leave your trash scattered about. So kudos to you both for reminding us all to be kind, courteous and most all just because you didn’t put it there doesn’t mean ya can’t pick it up and toss it in the trash. Happy Trails to you both.

I'm glad you mentioned the local ordinances. I live in such a community, and I'm a police officer. The local Walmart has put some signs up, but we sometimes get called to enforce the ordinance because the store doesn't want to get fined. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't take it out on the store management, they don't want to kick you out any more than I do, but unfortunately the townspeople have spoken here. Happy RVing!

RV virgin here heavily considering purchasing a truck and RV. There's quite a bit to learn and after watching a handful of your videos, I have to extend my gratitude to the both of you for producing excellent videos. Not only are they packed with excellent tips and info, but the quality of videos are also well done. It makes it easy to focus on the content without being distracted by poor audio quality or cross wind noise/background noise, etc.
    Much appreciated.

Making quality videos can be a huge pain, so it's nice when people appreciate the results. When I was growing up in the 80's and we did the Holiday travel from Texas to California, my father who pinch pennies till they'd screamed always had us over nite at Walmart parking lots. I was an OTR driver for 20 years and just bought a 35' Class A, parking stops are golden to a tired driver, I would take up parking where the 4-wheelers park (with permission) so many of them are so inconsiderate, I will take up a few of "their" spots before I'd use a spot for a big rig....every time! HAPPY TRAILS!

Last fall I became a Wal*Mart "Parker"!!! Extended cab, short bed pickup with a tall cap. I made a platform for my twin bed mattress and had all the sheets, blankets and comforters I needed. Yes, the street sweepers did linger for an hour or so but I took two PM painkillers and I was out like a light. The first night was kind of weird but every night after that it got more normal. This was in Falmouth, Mass for those who like Cape Cod. The store was great also especially the bathroom. Thank you Wal*Mart big time.

I think it is always a good idea to check with the manager instead of just pulling in and setting up for the night, just to let them know you are there. It is simply good manners. Another thing I have run into is that at several Wal Marts, especially in larger metro areas, do not own their parking lots, these are the ones where "No RV parking" signs are displayed everywhere, and I have seen tire boots placed by the local police on trailers and tow vehicles. There are safety regulations so you can't be towed if the camper or rig is occupied, but there is no regulation that your vehicles can't be "booted" until the fine is paid. Excellent video, keep them coming.

  • @HoneyandMe

Great video! We are huge Walmart overnighters. We've only encountered one in our travels that has not allowed overnight parking. But, the large grocery store next door to it was fine with it so we stayed there. One thing we have encountered in our Walmart nights is the occasional 'yahoo' who thinks it's funny to drive through the lot in the middle of the night honking his horn and screeching his tires. But, hey! It's free..so no complaints. We always purchase items at the stores we park at overnight. Most are okay with you unhitching your trailer of the day too. It can be difficult fuelling up in the city with a longer rig, so being able to dump the trailer for a few hours is so helpful. We also put out our slides, being careful to have them on the side that they won't run into by passing vehicles. When we first started to use Walmart to overnight, we thought that was a huge no-no. But apparently, they don't really mind at all! No chairs, BBQs or awnings though. That's getting a bit too comfortable. Let's not abuse their generosity and ruin it for everyone.

My Uncle was good friends with Sam, Sam would go around to every store and wanted to met everyone, he would drive his pickup truck to the stores alone. He was in fact a camper and preferred it to hotels...

    • @Meekerextreme
      @Meekerextreme 7 лет назад +7

Sam was also known to be frugal and they would share Hotel/Motel rooms on business trips. Meaning executives bunked up...LOL I'm guessing the RV was before he did the plane thing as he flew to stores...he indeed liked to see every store for himself. Not many CEO's would do that today. Of course it's not Sams Wal-Mart anymore, probably rolling around in his grave.

Love your channel. Consider adding "Do not detach the tow vehicle". In a portion of your video it shows someone doing this. There is a Walmart in our area that was forced to cease overnight parking because too many people detached and by doing so left an uninsured trailer in their lot. In our area the tow vehicle carries the insurance for the trailer but only if it is attached.

I've parked in dozens of WalMart's, and thank you so much for the fine advice. A spot next to a bit of greenery on the door-side of the camper is nice. Carefully parking with proper tilt and slant, as well as away from a light which will shine into your eyes all night, is one of my priorities.
Also, shopping in the middle of the night is a crowd-free pleasure.
    Thanks for a fine Vid.

Yes they are BUT you have a large number of people pulling trailers that pull in and unhook and let awning out and put out their chairs and grill and act like it is a camping area, they are the ones who are RUINING IT FOR EVERYONE! One Walmart reported that a bunch in a trailer put everything out and next morning they dumped their black tank onto the parking lot before they left, there again, it is the Low-Life Trailer Trash that is doing this and giving everyone a bad rap!

We enjoyed our 24' Class C because of the ease of parking in almost any parking lot. We have spent many nights in Rest stops, Walmart, Flying J as well as many other truck stops.
One of our trips was to a 2 day Civil War reenactment that was really not set up for overnight parking and there were no camp grounds close. We went to a Walmart close by. We were off by ourselves. Oklahoma summers are very hot even at night. We ran our generator all night for our AC. It cost us about 4 gal. of gas. We usually do a little shopping there as well as the truck stops. It's easy to hide in a smaller motor home that a truck and trailer.
    Thanks for the tips

A Carson City NV Walmart requested and received a No Overnight Parking ordinance after a guy set up camping in the parking lot for many many days, awning and chairs out, littering, etc. When authorities made him depart, he damaged his rig leaving -- and threatened to sue. As a result, no overnight parking there. I live there and know this is true.

Dan Jacobs That is a really good idea! Some retailers might be limited by landlords or shopping plaza owners, but it would be worth looking into. Our parking lot is too small but it might be an option for others with bigger properties. I'll bring it up when talking to them. We're a gateway to a recreation region so the Chamber might even look into it. Thanks!

Thank you for your efforts. You might not be able to get others to see where you are coming from on this issue, but instead of crying over Wal-Mart moving in, folks could try to fight for the customers they could get by opening up what they can to folks, attracting them to come visit you and not the Walton Family. If they can park there, they will probably come!

I really like the two of you; you're very down to earth and classy. I haven't yet bought a trailer but have been researching some of the problems I might encounter and as a single woman, safety is a key issue for me. I think common sense goes a long way as does common courtesy. If you treat others like you'd like to be treated, that covers a lot of ground. But if you don't feel safe, your advice of "just leave" is very sound. Thanks so much for this video, I look forward to seeing other videos by the two of you. AND carry on with the honeymoon!

Great tips. Few things I learned - Don't ask if it's OK to park. If there is a local ordinance they are required to say "No" when really I found they don't care. Better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission. Also don't park close to where the carts are collected. More than once I've had the teenager that collects them make as much noise as possible at 3am (singing loudly and crashing carts) with the intention of waking up the RV'ers parked in His lot. Generally I've found the lots very safe. Every Walmart I've parked has had cameras. I always go in and buy something and never put out the plastic pink flamingos.

Most walmarts that are open 24 hours will allow parking, the stores that close at night usually will not allow parking and always look for the signs, I have never seen a sign that said you could park, but if they don't allow parking there will be signs.

    • @LongLongHoneymoon
      @LongLongHoneymoon  8 лет назад +1

True, and we've even seen a few with signs claiming they didn't allow parking that actually did allow it! Often the issue is a municipal ordinance. In other words, the local government puts up the "No Overnight Parking" sign, but Walmart doesn't mind.

Great tips! Thanks for sharing. Proper etiquette is so important. These businesses allow us to park with some expectation we will spend money so do that whenever you visit. You are right about public ordinances banning your stay so calling ahead is really important. San Diego County has a "parking" ban in effect and also some areas issue tickets for "habitating" in your vehicle making it illegal to be parked in a public place and sleep, even for a nap. Enforcement is spotty but the tickets start at $150 so finding an RV park is almost a must.

My wife and I were travelling to Elliot Lake Ontario and we had started late for job reasons. We had hoped to make Elliot Lake before late evening. We arrived in Parry Sound and I was really bear and could drive no further. We found a Walmart which had plug ins. I suspect the truck drivers used this on Northern nights. The second time we had to stop before destination we ended up at a Tim Hortons parking lot late in the evening and had a snack. I didn’t think the snack was going to help sleep deprivation. We asked the Tim Horton’s Manager if we could sleep overnight in the parking lot. They were more than happy to let us crash as it added a little more security for their employees. There next morning the 0600 construction crews arrived for their morning breakfast waking us up. We joined them for breakfast and continued the journey fully refreshed. I have had too many problems driving while tired which has convinced me to stop while smart! Good video, great ideas THANKS GUYS

One reason that they frown on Truck Drivers from parking in their Parking Lot is due to the Mess that some of them leave. Some leave their urine bottles, bags of trash. As long as people clean up after their mess, I don't think they, the store doesn't mind. There's just one group of people that doesn't keep the parking lots clean and it hurts the parking for others.

Oh, by the way, thanks for a really great thorough video for Walmart Parking. I've also heard that some Truck Stops frown on RV's Parking in their parking lots. Especially in Las Vegas. I think that it means you can't pitch your tent like you were saying about Walmart. It's to hazardous to do a camping type of situation. AOA is the best place I hear, though some aren't the nicest. There are some free lands to park on. Thanks again for a well put together video.

+Larry Pierce yes, truck stops are a last resort for us. You can usually stay there but frankly some truckers resent seeing RVs in "their" space. Just got off the instant message line on their facebook page. They were very kind. Closest Super Center I saw to Quatzite that the lady gave me was up North of Parker, AZ. in Riverside, AZ. She told me each Walmart is different on their RV and Tuck Parking policies. I just imagine like you said, a courtesy call to them or to which ever Walmart you go to I'm showing that's our Walmart located at 100 W Riverside Dr, Parker, AZ 85344 The phone number is (928) 669-2161
You are also welcome to check with us when you're on the road so we can provide you the phone number to the location you'll be visiting. This the information they gave me. So, they're more than happy to make your stay a pleasant one from the way she sounded. Quatzite, AZ. I use to stop there for two things, to refill my big rig when I was a Trucker, eat, shower and sleep. Then get back on the road. The T/A Truck Stop there seemed to have plenty of room to Park. Oh, there use to be a great burger place there in Quartzite to eat, but can't remember the name of it. I think it was a Cafe. Have a safe trip. I hope I can be out there in the future. I'll leave you alone now. This old guy must sleep now. At 65 years old tires quicker.

When we head cross country we stop at WalMart, K-Marts, etc for a quick overnight stop all the time. Us mid-westerners call it Boon Docking. We've done this for years and never had a problem. We also use truck stops often but making sure to park in areas where big rigs are not going to park. Most truck stops have a designated area in the front area of the business when they want campers to park. Another point, The way our coach is setup we need to slide our bedroom slide out so we can comfortably get in and out of bed. Keeping the fact the bedroom slide is out I worried about some airhead hitting the slide as they pass so I got some highly reflective yellow 2" wide tape which I put on the ends of both the front and back of the slide. You can also find white/clear reflective tape that would work. The use of this reflective tape gives passerby a heads up that your side is out.

Nice video!, We have stayed many times in a Motorhome at Walmart and never an issue. We never put out slides or run the generator for more than a few minutes. There were a few urban areas that didn't really feel safe but we stayed anyway because of the on site security. FYI on I10 going through south Louisiana the Walmarts near the interstate have put up height bars over the entrance to not allow Truck traffic and subsequently, Motorhome or 5th wheeler traffic. Could be a local ordinance but since I couldn't get in the parking lot to do Grocery Shopping they missed my business.

It makes sense to park at a Walmart and shop for supplies and hit the road and rest . I can't say it's safe parking anywhere at a retail chain unless you know your safe and know what you can do to protect yourself. We missed getting through the entrance by 20 minutes before they closed it up. Luckily there was a Walmart a dozen miles up the road, so we tried it. We are new to RVing and the best app i have found is RV Parky. The maps shows Wal-Mart's as well as rest areas, Crackerbarrel and other choices to stop. If you click on Wal-Mart it tells of overnight parking is offered or prohibited. We are planning our first two trips and their trip planning feature is superb. If you are heading to a National or State Park, you insert the destination then search for places to stay. Very eAsy to use and insert into. You can add post it notes to remind you of things you want to see or do at that location, such as lighthouses or historic railroads. Very used friendly and an awesome tool.
Loved you Visio of Wal-Mart tips. Well done.
