The Boss DD-20 Giga Delay is one of the most powerful delay pedals on the planet. With 23 seconds of delay and 11 different delay modes the Boss DD-20 Giga Delay is an amazing tool perfect for any style of music.
I've had this delay box for a while and have loved it. I really love the tempos feature that allows you to enter the delay time as a beat-per-minute value with a notation (dotted eighth note) delay time. It really helps in the studio to nail down that perfectly timed delay with a track recorded to a click.
I don't understand how some people can put a dislike on Andy's amazing job on reviewing pedals.
This is an awesome pedal for recording because you can tell it to repeat at a specific bpm and match up with the metronome perfectly.
i ordered one and it came in less then a day, guess my order was set to 1 milisecond .....
I have owned a DD-6 and currently own the DD-20. The DD-20 is head and shoulders above the single pedals such as the DD-6 and 7.
The thing that sells me is the double pedal approach. Instead of just one pedal that does "ON and OFF" the double pedal allows to call up 4 preset sounds. I like that.
This is an amazing pedal for U2... it was a missing ingredient for me for the longest time till i got this thing
Don't get why all the people say that boss sucks.
@NerdyHobbyistGamer The Space Echo is just emulates a tape delay. It has up to three heads where as the DD-20's tape mode has up to two heads. Also with the Space Echo, you can combine your delay with reverb and the DD-20's smooth adds a reverb effect to its delay. Bottom line, Space Echo if you strictly want to a tape delay, and the DD-20 if you want a versatile delay. Find other videos of the DD-20, there are a lot more things it can do then what was shown on this video.
Just got this pedal for $125 off craigslist. Love it. It does so much! Even for the retail price its worth it
previously i wanted to get this pedal then i saw ur vid on the timebender and was hooked on that now seeing this vid made by u im at a lost as to what to get!!!! Andy ur the greatest!!
3:46 - He's playing Yo La Tengo! ANDY IS THE MAN!!!
I only just realized that first song you played was a Punch up at a wedding by Radiohead! Love it
Agreed. I sold every other delay pedal I had when I got it!
I've been waiting this demo for so long.
And waiting for get one too.
@SebastianLleras
yes! you can put those pedal together! in case you have a wah pedal, it should be the first pedal in the pedal chain!
glad you guys were able to get to this!
I've had one of these for a few years now, simply brilliant machine. Especially that loop section for recording a small phrase to practice lead.
Thanks for good demo.............
This is a great pedal, I highly recommend it!
Ordered this yesterday. So happy!!
damn you, andy!!!!!!!!! damn you!!!!!!!!
I don't generally like chorus, but the DD-20's modulated delay sounds lush.
I have this pedal, I absolutely love it
In my Opinion this pedal is one of the Better Delays out there, Have heard several people that own this pedal use it and sounds amazing !! Another, Awesome Delay pedal out there is the 'Eventide "Time Factor" very wet sounding delays....God Bless....... : )
Radiohead - Karma Police (end of the song)
5:06 ... With or with out you!! Oahhhhh ooooooh!! lml
i was thinkin about getting one of these but the twist and the warp mode are the most useless delay modes every inventied. i decided to go with the digitech timebender instead and it has served me greatly!
3:46 yo la tengo!!! I heard you looking
@HammarHeart Hey I'm not sure if anyone replied to u but, I'll reply anyway. Since I own both, I can say that the DD-20 can't get the "super heavy delay+reverb combo that causes psychedelic feedback looping noise" sound u're looking for. The DD-20 doesn't really self oscillate, and the tape mode doesn't have reverb. Just want to let u know that the space echo's reverb is quite an odd & unusual sounding reverb but it has character. The space echo is the way to go if u're looking for that sound.
@chikamoako
This may not be of much help, but I think the best way to answer that question is to take YOUR gear to a local music store and try out both, and let your ears decide. That being said, if price is a bit of an option, then Boss may be a little better choice. But if not, then like I said, let your ears decide. I've heard of one guitarist who uses both with one set to one delay to one amp and the other set to another delay to another amp.
i have one...it's one hell of a delay pedal, but kinda big on my pedal board...nice to play around with...
3:58-4:17 sounds like something U2 would play.
one of the onliest Boss pedal i would use :P
this is a great delay pedal but i prefer the boss re-20. warm and simple. and plus, it has a reverb on it too.
Yeah, if you listen to the decay on an analog delay you'll notice is degenerates a bit and gets warmer. But digital is pretty much the same all the way through. Both are good for different things, that's why I have 2 delay's and analog and a digital.
Well I find the Timebender more versatile for what I play, because I use various rhythmic delays. But I like this too because of the Sound on Sound.
cant wait to own this. great video
I would go with the DD-20 cause alot of people have had problems with the DL-4
I like the Digitech Timebender better, because it's got some crazy space effects. One of the few times I prefer Digitech over Boss, but then it's a bit more expensive too.
yeah say that to me dude i have this and the line 6 dl-4, but they both have beautiful sounds
Nice little spin on Karma Police there Andy.
well now there's 23 of them :))
@cooliojoe562 well, some delay pedals have different features that a musician might like to employ at different times. also, more progressive musicians may create chains of delay, using one delay pedal to "delay" the signal processed by another. you can create really interesting textures that way.
also, it's common to use one delay as a looper and to use another simply as a delay on the sections being looped (as most delay/loop pedals don't allow you to delay and loop simultaneously).
@TheEmerchan yes you can, watch from 3:39
It's Karma Police by Radiohead.
@messalion Analog is more like warm and natural, because it is handmade, Digital is basically computer delay, obviously the Analog delay on this is like artificial.
Whats great about this pedal is has that very dark analog like sound. Even though this is a digital pedal, i would totally guess analog if I heard it.
I gotta get one of these!
@Bodhidrop
Can you use the twist effect on the tape / analog delays or is it a mode all on it's own?
I'm torn between one of these, a Space echo or a Tc electronic nova delay or repeater.
Then..... I spotted the new EHX Ravish Sitar pedal, so many toys not enough money !
2:46 sounds just like Zooropa by U2!!!
Must HAVE!!!
Sounds like 'Freeze'...you could do it with volume knob of the guitar
I feel like crying because my search is over before it began, and I though my journey through the world of delays would be the most tedious... Nope!
5:08 with or without youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu ohhhhhh
i have a quetion... this delay its better than DD7 BOSS?
using a memory boy deluxe... really recommend this one!
but I like this one too... it's very different from the MemoryBoyDx but I like it.
Dual mode sounds like it would be useful for some songs by The Police. I wonder if the twist mode could be used in a way similar to Tom Scholz's hyperspace pedal.
@PetieFr i was also planning on getting a space echo... but this one definitely seems more versatile... however, can i get the super heavy delay+reverb combo that causes psychedelic feedback looping noises like the space echo does?
@christiancavestany yes it does.
nice boss is the best
You just need a mic to 3/4 inch adaptor. But probably, I've sand through pedals a few times.
@mintygreen -If you want just one, I'd go with analog....as far as functionality, no other pedal can compare with the Giga. I bought one and I love it. There is a problem though....it sounds fake. It sounds very fake when you play the Giga and then play an MXR Carbon Copy, which will be my next delay peadl.
can you plug a mic into it and beatbox?
if you have alot of money i would buy a god amp and just some basic pedals like a delay a Overdrive (for your solos )
a Chorus and a phase and if you dont want to spend a lot of money i would go with the line 6 because i have the line 6 pod xt and believe me it has great tone but modeling amps are not the real thing i can tell you a tube amp kicks all effect processors ass so its yours, you have to decide what fits you, fits^^ you know what i mean
5:06 sounds like U2
@gjrocks yes it can
This one is really great. Best/most versatile delay out there, I think. Wanna score one. Can't find one at any of the shops (I'm out in the country). Any ideas on the cost in Canadian $? Thanks for this demo. You folks are great.
Is the DD20 the only delay pedal to have that twist mode?
Also I'm struggling to decide between the DD20, Nova Delay iB Modified or the Digitech Time Bender. Any suggestions?
That reverse mode sounded like crap. I was surprised at the quality of the other sounds though.
are you guys gonna do an re-20 demo? that would be awesome!
@kaiser99er this all the way unless your short on cash and the dd-7 is still amazing but this is way better
is there any real difference between digital and analog?
O.o Did anyone notice the strong resemblance the song in the beginning has to 'Especially in Michigan' by RHCP? WTF?
Boss Rulezzzzz!
2:37 Zooropa by U2
The edge would spunk all over this.
@TacooGrill
Hi,
I've been looking at this delay pedal and also the T.C.Electronic nova delay.
One feature on the Nova that I really like is the ability to set the tempo with the guitar on tap tempo instead of hitting the pedal. Does this Boss pedal have that facilty?
Cheers
great!
@punchdrunk04 Yes. Of course :)
it's a good buy
it IS a u2 sound :p
5:04 beautiful song choice
and a bit from the unforgiven!
Not sure how much this is, i checked the whole comment board, but if it's pricey you all should take a look at an Empress Super Delay instead.
if you can pay for this then go for it!!! :) but if you wanna budget, dd-7 in enough :)
nice u2 at the end, XD
Nice U2 at 5:06
Can it play 2 delays at once? For example a 16th note and a dotted 8th note?
I've got one... I like it, but I have some problems: When you record sounds at the banks, this sound changes (:::!). I just don't know why this happens, but I saw that it happens with other units. The sounds are great when U plug at send/return of amp. If you put this in front of amp, it kinda sucks...
this video doesn't really do this pedal justice, its probably one of my favourite pedals ever
Hey I love lucy isn't torture!!
where?
for only $125 ? you sure? do they follow up delivery?
pm me
I like the twist function, but is there any way to get rid of the coming down aspect? I only want it to go up and can't stop it coming down.
i wonder if this is what noel gallagher used to get that swooshing effect on gas panic
Get a good looper pedal! :) Like the rc-3
Sounds like Karma Police in the beginning.
which has better quality multi effect processor or collect pedal board , i has grg170dx ibanez guitar and line 6 spider III 30w amp and i want to play some stuff like satriani , vai , slash , metallica , and some metal
im not sure if i should get this or the dd7, they both hav looping which is one of the things i want, but as the dd7 is pretty much on the limit of wot im happy spending, is this worth it cos i also want a distortion pedal, i want it for pretty much everything rock, death metal to hendrix
Does the memory function save presets even when you turn the pedal off or does it just save them for that session?
and can this be hooked up to an expression pedal?! or just the pre set pedals and a taptempo pedal
