Went through all that without massive tires, anodized racing shocks, nat geo equipment racks, little ladders to climb to the roof top, huge LED Luxor strength light bars, 48,000 pound bumper winches, reinforced steel front and rear bumpers, red tow hooks and loops for heavy recovery, gas cans hanging off the bumper. How could you possibly do it? Oh just leave it stock and have fun. Its designed and tested in Japan under the world truck standards. NATO used chassis with a stylish body and a gas engine. I love my TRD off road. Best by far here in the state's. As always great videos!!! Best no b/s channel showcasing a great driver with a great 4X4 and the best videographer.
Lol thanks! It is a great truck in all conditions. Best part is how great it drives on the highway! People forget about that until you have to make a 5,000 mile round trip to these trails.
@@jimerinrose6235 other than tires its stock? I was wondering. I just got a TRD off Road. Was wondering how much of that stuff is actually necessary vs Looking cool. Recovery gear... spare tire... sure.
Those are stock rims, but it looks lifted as those are pretty big tires for stock suspension.
This is the best ASMR I've seen in years.
Glad you liked it! I actually had to look up the term as several people have said the same thing.
You easily have the best control and command for that 4runner then anyone! Mad props! Working on skills as I can in our 19 SR5 with 2.5 bilsteins. Atrac is amazing!! Love my 4 runner!
Thank you! Really appreciate the nice comment. Enjoy the road and trails! Really love mine too!😉👍
Always loved the 4runner. This is the most beautiful scenic route I've seen any 4runner go through. If I had a 4runner, I would get this TRD Off-road trim and would get the all terrain tires like this .
Thanks appreciate the nice comment!
Hey friend,
natural life images are very nice, also your off road images 👍
Thanks!😉👍
Nice driving, i love how you dont have all that gear to weigh it down. I recently took my '22 TRD Pro stock to Colorado, and it habdled so well, especially high speed dirt tracks. The 4runner can throw down as is. Dope footages, fun to watch video bro.
Thanks so much! 😉👍
Jim you have balls of steal. Some of those times when your going on 3 wheels and just cruising along like it's nothing, man I'm here just scared watching you. Also on that bend @ 7:25 geesh I almost had a heart attack.
Samuel thank you! It’s to the point now where where I look for spots I can lift a wheel. 😂
@@jimerinrose6235 where did you gain the knowledge of no longer fearing a roll over? I was there a month ago and I always felt so off cambered and tippy. 2018 4runner lifted as well...just always felt like I was going to flop.
Craig Wexler lol after a while you get a feel for what’s ok and what’s not. If you ever feel like it’s to much of a tip point the tires if the direction away from the side that is up and let off the brake it will drop right down.
@@jimerinrose6235 yeah, I'm referring to more of the sideways off camber feeling.
Such a cool video. Mad skills to the driver, not scared to lift that 1 wheel off… I’m not rich, can’t afford to tip mine over 😂 but man!! Beautiful scenery! This is what’s it’s all about🤙
Thank you! 😉👍
These vids are addicting. You use your 4Runner for its intended purpose. I don't have the guts to do it yet, but mine is also brand new. I do like that lunar TRD Pro you guys are driving behind as well.
Thanks glad you like them. Mine was brand new when I started making the videos 3 years later and 85k miles I haven’t looked back. Get out there and have some fun! Don’t save the truck for the next guy. 😂
Nice! I enjoy your videos, just your 4R in action, not 20 minutes of you making coffee and trying to sell products, haha.
These trails look amazing, I've seen other videos of these and I really want to get out there with mine. You did a really good job of showing how sketchy the shelf roads are, especially that one spot on Black Bear.
Looks like those KO2s are working out well for you! I was thinking of getting a set for mine, but I've read some bad reviews from other 4Runner owners. On the other hand, for every bad review I hear I hear a rave review. I was actually going to pick some up a couple weeks ago, but it seems like everyone's out of stock.
I have a video suggestion, as I was watching this I noticed that you seem to pick really good lines, even through some of these more technical places. Maybe a version of this with you doing a voice over describing some of your techniques and how you pick lines would be interesting. There was one particular spot where I thought you were really smooth, if you had panicked and hit the brakes you probably would have ended up on your lid, your passenger rear cam pretty high up off the ground, but you just rolled with it. Good technique!
Thanks! Personally I really like my KO2's. I'm on like my third set with this truck. I buy new ones every year before our big trip and the old ones sell pretty good on Facebook. They wear really good, get great traction in all conditions, and can take a beating.
As far as picking lines, in the video I usually pick the ones I think will look the most dramatic. Going down hill, one's with a good front tire drop off on one side are the best for opposite side back tire lift "Toyota wave" If it feels like too much just turn the wheel opposite of the tire lift and let off the brake, it will drop right down. Same with front wheel lift going up a hill, a good hole on either rear side will give you a nice front tire lift. If it gets sketchy just let off the throttle and don't hit the brake until it drops completely down, then just lightly to stop. Hope this helps. My wet and wild video has a lot of these lifts.
@@jimerinrose6235 thanks for the reply! Yeah, there were a few times where I thought you took a more difficult line, but I just figured it was for the challenge. I mountain bike, and we typically take the harder lines for the fun of it.
Good point on selling the KO2s with some life left on Marketplace, you're right I do see them all the time. I'll have to just pull the trigger next time I find them in stock somewhere.
Trail Runnah Amazon has them. That’s where I get mine.
LOL true
I have 2020 trd off road premium same color stock as well cant wait to take on the rockies thanks for the great inspiration might need some all terrain tires for this one
You’re welcome!😉👍 You’ll have a blast out there!
Gnarly trails, awesome skills, 4Runner kicks some a**
Thanks!😉👍
Pretty crazy trail in spots.. nice driving. A couple spots i think i'd have pointed more down and taken less chances off-camber because there was a different line that could have been taken .. i'm too scared to roll to chance some of those lines. What beautiful country out there. !!
Thanks. Yea to be honest sometimes I pick a line and hold the wheel to get a little more action. Once you get use to it you know when to let off the brake and turn in the opposite direction if it gets sketchy.
Man this is some good recording!! Feels like i am on the trail too.
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Nice. A 4Runner that’s actually on “trails” and not just another smooth dirt road 😂. Sweet. I’ll check out your other videos
Thanks! 😉👍
Nicely done, have the TRD ORP as well. Just added K03s
Thanks! How do you like them?
@@jimerinrose6235 Great tires. I would say better on wet pavement and a little quieter ride.
Very nice control when intentionally picking harder lines. I just got Dobinsons MRR suspension and have yet to get her in the dirt.
I cant wait. Hot Springs off road park in Aransas on Memorial day weekend is gonna be a blast.
I love how you can show approach/departure angles of the 4runner in this video.
Also, get a 5th gen while you still can.
Do NOT like the new one.
Gonna take YEARS for us 4 runner guys to even BEGIN to trust that thing.
Thanks! Have fun at Hot Springs!
😉👍
Yea all these new Direct injected Turbo 4cyl engines have a lot to prove. I really believe they are getting too complicated to remain as reliable in the long run.
I was there a month ago as well. I am glad to see how confident your driving is. I at times felt too cautious. Still learning i guess.
Thanks!
Where is “there” specifically? I use OnX and still seems like it’s a crap shoot for me as far as finding legit trails
@@mikegoolsby2731 this is Imogene Pass out of Ouray, CO.
Nice video man. You are an excellent driver. Greetings from Montgomery, Alabama
Thanks 👍 Hi From Fort Myers, FL
Your balls and the 4runner are legendary
LOL
Great driving!
Jamel Hamdan thank you!😉👍
Jamel Hamdan Thank you!
you guys have invented a new sport of auto climbing🙂
LOL Thanks!😎👍
How are you managing to easily handle all that gnar without front and rear bumpers, winch, full roof rack and a rooftop tent?! ; ) Very nice vids!
LOL Thanks!
We’re being spoiled - you guys rock! 👏🏻💪🏻
Solo Overland Thank you! We’re missing the trails already!😕
You're a beast.
Any funny noises on the way home?
Lol thanks!
No strange noises.
Great driving skillz
Thank you very much! 😉👍
You made it look so easy with a stock 4runner...
Thank you!
I've missed you guys so much!
When are you coming back up to PA! Would love to explore with you two!
Yea we haven’t made a lot of videos this year with everything going on. Not sure when the next PA trip is going to be? my father in-law is probably moving down here pretty soon so we won’t have much need to go up there. You can always come down to SW Florida lots of swampy trails to run down here!
Wow, thank you for the jaw dropping video. Does your 4Runner have KDSS?
Thanks
No it does not have KDSS
Like a tank! Wish I had a locker.
SuperSymun Thanks! Yea we used the rear locker a lot on this trip. 😬
Hey man if ya remember me we just hit 4500 miles on our 4 runner, just wanting to check in
Scoutman2004 I remember! How you liking it?
Good, just took a trip to Florida and it did great, drives amazing
Scoutman2004 Awesome!
Amazing, Yes the 4Runner is a capable vehicle however your driving skills are next level as well. Question for you; are you using Multi-Terrain, A-Track, or rear lockers for the black bear pass into Telluride? One last question if you don’t mind, you stated a 3” lift; any specifics on the lift you are running?
Thanks really appreciate the comment. I run in 4 low pretty much all the time on these trails for the gearing. Once in a while I’ll use the rear locker and or A trac for a harder obstacle. That said the trail can be done just in 4 low. I have a OME 3inch soft springs in the front and medium in the back. Here is the link where I got them. www.toyteclifts.com/ome-4r210-old-man-emu-suspension-2010-4runner.html
Hi Jim, love your videos! How long does a set of OME last you? In your walk around video, you mentioned you have the SOFT up front and the MEDIUMS at the rear. Would MEDOUMS up from the too harsh a ride for a stock vehicle? Thank you.
Thanks!😉👍
I put a new set of OME shocks on at 100k
None were leaking they were just a little weaker than new. Mediums up front are only if you have a front bumper and winch. It will ride horribly stiff on a stock rig. They do not sell soft rear just medium for loaded weight and if you need to tow. I haul dual Jetski’s and a car hauler behind mine all the time it’s a great set up. I can’t say enough how much better it is from the stock suspension.
Is there anything/anywhere that this 4runner/driver can't go? Very good driver, compliments my friend!
Thank you for the nice comment! 😉👍
Wow! Another fantastic video!!! What MODs have you done? Snorkel, 3 inch lift, tires, anything else?
runNride Thanks! Adjustable UCA’s , Full steel skids , sliders and diff breather
Jim have u had issues with getting alignment right? I have same OME 3” lift, SPC adjustable upper control arms and no matter where i take it it always drifts to the right . By the way same sliders, they are great
I did when it was new but after seting the caster to +4 degrees no issues.
where did you buy the D ring at the back of the trailer ? Thanks
On-line can’t remember where? maybe e-bay or amazon.
I’ve got the same rig in the same color! You guys have to run wheel spacers or do a BMC to run the 285’s?
Fire Medic Nice!!! No wheel spacers or BMC. Just adjustable UCA’s
Jim/Erin Rose man I love your setup!!!
@@jimerinrose6235 what size tires do you have there, what brand tire do you have, is it lifted?
William Kennedy 285/70/17’s BFG KO2’s
Yes 3inch lift
@@jimerinrose6235 do you have kdss? If so what's your opinion on it
Kudos!
Thank you!
What’s that whistling sound on braking/downhill
Not sure, the phone pics up stuff I don’t even hear. I know some of the spots water is running down hill also.
Cool driving. Did you upgrade your exhaust? Sounds different than stock 4runner. Sounds good
Thanks! Exhaust is stock but the Snorkel makes you here the engine more.
What is your ideal tire pressure on rock crawling ? I have AT yoko's 265/70 16. I think we have almost similar tire size.
20-24psi
don't these trucks breaks or requires any maintenance by doing these extreme off roading?
Surprisingly not much. Just change fluids. I'm near 85k miles and the only thing that I had to replace out of warranty was lower control arm bushings and brakes. I did have two rear main seals replaced under warranty. They said dirt and mud was getting in thru the inspection hole so I seal it off now and no issues.
Do you have any aftermarket rear links or get an adjustable track bar? Just curious, since I plan to do similar trails, but don’t plan to get those upgrades.
I do not.
Awesome thanks!
Do you have a squeaking noise in your front drivers side when driving on rough roads or off road? If so, have you been able to pin point the noise? Also, do you have aftermarket bump-stops?
I get some noise from my lower control arm bushings when they warm up from a long day of off roading. I’ve replaced them once when they got to the point of excessive play. I have stock bump stops.
Thanks!
Yeah keep up the videos
God bless jesus loves you
Joskj j thank you! 🙏
what sliders are those, and any lift?
RSG Sliders 3inch OME lift
I've been looking at lifts for mine. Still deciding whether or not I need remote reservoirs. Any thoughts?
In my opinion the standard shocks are going to be more reliable and cheaper. That said I can get a little shock fade after a long day of running fast on the trails. Is it bad not really. My OME shocks have around 90k on them and I have new ones on order. I've been really happy with them and the price. No leaks I can just tell they are getting tired. I also have new lower controls arms going in, bushings are shot again.
@@jimerinrose6235 thanks. The OME BP-51 has been on top of my list!
Those KO2s, are they 265 or did you go wider?
Yes K02’s but 285’s
Out of curiosity, is your 4Runner Lifted, and if so, how much? Also what size are those KO2s? Awesome video!
Yes 3inch 285/70/17 thanks! 😉👍
Thanks for asking my question.
And answering!
Do you run 1.25" spacers with that tire/wheel combo? I just lifted mine 3" and put 285/70 on (trd off road as well) and am trying to determine if I should do the spacers or not
I have a full OME 3inch suspension lift
@@jimerinrose6235 thanks for the reply, I was referring to wheel spacers though
nick butler sorry no spacers
Do u guys use half air in the tires ? Seems like it?
Yes we run 20-24lbs
Are there hiking trails marked along these?
Greezy_Chef Absolutely
Not!😂
Does your Runner sit higher than a Pro?
Maybe just a little especially in the back.
It looks like you are running 285's on your rig, if thats true with the upsize from the factory tire do have an issues with any rubbing on the body or wheel wells? Did you do any body mods to accommodate the larger tire? I wanna upgrade my 2015 Trail Edition and was just curious. Love the videos! Keep posting! :D
Thanks! 😉👍 I do have 285’s I have a 3inch lift and adjustable upper control arms. I set the caster at +4 degrees removed the front mud flaps and move the front splash guard forward a little bit.
@@jimerinrose6235 Thanks for the info! the 3" lift is in and my new Cooper AT3 XLT 285's are on the way! I will be making the same mods on my Trail Edition I suspect. Thanks again and keep making the awesome videos!
bigdog33bad That’s awesome, best set up for these rigs!
This brother has a Death Wish! It's just a matter of time....🤔🚧
OMG 😱😳 slow down!
