This song is so beautiful and special, and it makes me cry too ❤️ Not to mention the movie, this movie is so beautiful, the kids are so innocent and doing everything to be together 😊
Adrian Brett I stand corrected. It's flute solo, followed by solos of Oboe, piano, back to flute then to Oboe solo...yes you are absolutely right the flute solo is haunting.
So I'm watching this movie right now for my first time. Immediately i heard the music&thought, "...wait....this is like.....'Steel Magnolias'..." Lo and behold: i come here to find it's the same composer! ...good ear, Me!
Steven Spielberg asked Quincy Jones to listen to this score for inspiration for “The Color Purple.” I think he did more than listen to it, but that’s okay. They’re distinct enough, and art is full of imitation, inspiration, and expansion. Both are magnificent scores.
"got the idea" - the word I think we're looking for is "plagiarised" (aka "stolen"). Unfortunately for Spielburg and Co, "The Color Purple" came up as a runner for the Oscars and thereby to the notice of Delerue. Cue the latter ("wait a minute that's my fucking music!") and out of court settlement...

Always have loved this movie and music it's so haunting and sad and moving, thanks for this.
Possibly one the most terribly sad melodies ever written.
Meu Deus!! Que filme primoroso!! Que trilha maravilhosa de DeLerue!
Concordo com você ❤️
Chorei à beça vendo este filme! Interpretações maravilhosas!!
And with the gorgeous flute solo played by William Bennett....
Adrian Brett It's a haunting duet of flute and Oboe

🙂
Yes it's the same composer. As a matter of fact he was a great inspiration for my own compositions, specially the soundtrack from Steal Magnolias
If you like this, listen to Delerue’s score for “Day of the Dolphin.” Magnificent.
definitivamente el tema principal que compuso Quincy Jones para The Color Purple tiene un parecido a éste tema que asombra....
This is sad type of music of this 1967.
Beaultiful música sad movies
The music sounds a bit like The Color Purple.
It does this is ..1967..the color purple was 1980s so .this is the original by delarue.!
@@kadyb3540 "used" aka "plagiarised" or possibly "inspired if one was feeling generous"
Steel Magnolias score was actually this composer & i heard those similarities first: but you're right!, i hear The Color Purple in there too

I have seen this movie once. I would love to see it again. Maybe TCM will show it again?
You can buy it on EBay! I've just bought it!
Thank You.
They showed it a few months ago. I have the book too.
I used to watch it every time it came on the CBS Late Movie back in the 70s.
I loved this movie. I have the book too. It's a very good book that you can buy through Amazon.
One can see where Quincy Jones got the idea for the main motif in "The Colour Purple".

Does anyone here know If and Where the sheet music for this piece is available anywhere….?? Doesn’t have to be for free, I will happily pay for it.
En mi pueblo a eso lo llamamos PLAGIO. Sé que Quincy Jones y compañía fueron demandados pero no sé cómo terminó el asunto.
