We call it turf in the bags People cut it for burning as firing during the winter. We used to cut the turf/ peat every summer. Hard work it was. Hope you enjoyed your stay
It was fascinating to see your visit to Fort Dunree. I particularly liked seeing the Searchlight in the Enclosed lookout room. Seeing the carbon rods of the light source reminded me of my apprenticeship as a Projectionist in the 1950's. The projector's lamp house used the identical system of Carbon Rods to provide sufficient light for showing the film. I spent many a show changing those rods as they wore down to almost a "stump". Enjoy the rest of your visit.
In the Republic of Ireland, there is a Deposit Return Scheme. If you check your cans and plastic bottles there's a bar code. Most supermarkets have a return machine. You are charged extra for xans and plastic bottles, so worth saving them and getting your money back.
