  • I'm always fascinated with how others plant and manage their fruit trees. I'm excited to once again join Tommy and Lisa of TheHomeGroneFarmstead as they take me on backyard orchard tour. They've got a number of types of fruit trees, pruned and trained in various styles. We saw trees ranging from beautiful oranges and peaches, to interesting loquat and pomegranate trees. Tommy has a passion for growing fruit and veggies, and it was great to join them!

    • CHEAPO Pruning Shears ...
    This new garden tour for 2020 takes us into a Southern California backyard orchard. This garden tour features Dave Wilson Nursery principles like backyard orchard culture, high density planting, and general ideas when growing fruit trees. Keeping an avocado tree happy and healthy, in addition to creating a diverse fruit trees garden, this homestead/ farmstead is a great balance between form and function. Similar to an urban garden tour, we get another great example of fruit trees in backyard. Tommy's approach differs a little in planting fruit trees in pots for the sake of space, although we both use iv organic, utilize pruning for shape/size. We're also growing a lot of the same stuff, like pomegranate, peach tree, fig, etc. Tommy is going to be grafting fig, and possibly grafting Apple. I'm grateful to share this orchard tour in Tommy and Lisa's home orchard. Stay tunes for Part 2 where we explore their front yard fruit trees!

    I live in NC 7B and I am working on my backyard orchard as well, so far I have 5 different apple trees, 1 Fig, 1 Nectarine, 1 plum , 5 blueberry bush, 1 muscadine grape, 1 concord grape and 2 pear....I want so much more. There is nothing like walking around your yard eating from your trees, pretty amazing and by the way I live a subdivision so if I can do it you can too.

      That's terrific, Anna! I love the variety you've got in your orchard! As you can attest, tasty, fresh fruit isn't out of reach for a suburban/urban grower. :)

    Hi! Great video! I also live in SoCal and started my collection of fruit trees. Just wondering if their Santa Rosa plum tree is self pollinating? And, can I plant that specific tree in a large container? Thanks!

      Thanks for watching! Santa Rosa plums ARE self-fruitful, but like most other self-pollinating cultivars, will provide a larger crop with another nearby pollinator. Santa Rosa plum can be grown in a large container, but in this case I'd recommend one on a dwarfing rootstock.

      The Busy Gardener Thank you!! Now I’m on a mission to find a dwarf version!

    Great video! I have a huge fig tree , this tree gave a lot of figs last year , i wondering should I give some fertilizer for the tree and what kind NPK I should use , I appreciate your time ! Thanks

    • @TheBusyGardener
      @TheBusyGardener  4 года назад

      YES! Your tree needs nutrients to thrive, just like you do. If you're not concerned about height, a fertilizer like amzn.to/2y0Is1n is EXCELLENT! It's a larger bag and better value, but they have smaller bags and options available too.

      I know this brand , kind a little bit pricey, I have gro power 3-12-12 and 5-3-1 and dr earth 5-5-2, 4-6-3, job’s 4-4-4 ,9-12-12 , and another blood meal 2-14 -0 ,my fig tree is big one , I cut some high breaches early of the year ,I just not sure which one I should use for fig , coz fig doesn’t have flowers.

      I'm not aware of specifically where to purchase that kind of tree, but lots of nurseries can ship you trees by mail!

    This tour was awesome! I’m so glad that you showed the kumquats. You’re the reason I ordered some...which are being held because of the weather. I'm fine with them being safe and happy though. Thanks for sharing 🌞 Can’t wait to see part 2 with Lisa and Tommy.

    Great content, but I'd rather stare at "B role" of the tree instead of 3 people staring at the tree talking about it.

      I think you're right, Kristine! I'm working on incorporating more plant time in my videos.
