Hi Victoria. I just wanna thank you for providing educational videos. I received a call hiring me as a medical coder. My heart is pounding so fast and I'm soooo speechless. Thank you, thank you, thank you! 😊
Thank you so much for this video, and the wonderful advice from Mr. Kyle. I graduate with an associates degree on honor roll from Medical Billing and Coding program in a couple months, and I was planning to expect that I will not get a coding position right off the back and may just accept a position at front desk, especially because I have zero background in medical field. You both extra validated my thoughts exactly and I appreciate the inspiring words, thank you. 🙏🏼
I don't understand. Working a front desk job doesn't guarantee you any coding nor would you be able to use that on your resume as coding experience. I feel you both are telling people to do any medical job and hope a coding position opens up. Would we tell a doctor or nurse to work the front desk and hope for a role to open? If we were just going to end up working front desk jobs to be our foot in the door then what is the purpose of certifications and schooling?
Exactly how I feel. It's just a total waste of time for me. I was soo happy when I passed the exams after my fourth try only to know the certification will just be sitting on my desk a year after. It's just soo tough to get any job out there for us.
Great vid! Thank you so much for doing this! It has given me a renewed hope of possibly finding an entry-level remote coding position. I know it's kind of a 'unicorn' in coding circles, but Kyle said they are out there with certain companies. Definitely going to look into those. Currently, with gas prices skyrocketing and distance of the local health networks that have coders, a remote job is the most economical for me. Thank you both again for such an informative vid!
You are absolutely incredibly knowledgeable. I just wanted to say thank you so much for your time and wisdom. You are truly helping to change lives for the better. I have studied and listen to you for sometime now. After this video I'm completely sold on you. Thank you again ;) God bless
Hi Victoria, Thanks for sharing this video with us. It's been frustrating hunting for jobs but this video gave me a whole lot of ways to go and I will keep at it. May be one day soon, I'd land a job in the coding world.
Wow, thank you, interesting! Doesn’t sound like starting in healthcare helps with employment. There are countless people on this thread already in healthcare that have become certified and are struggling for a long time to get into the field they invested time. Good to know.
My wife passed her CPC exam three months ago and has been diligently applying to hospitals, clinics, and contract agencies, but virtually all of them require one to two years experience, even those that say they'll accept applications from someone with a CPC-A. How do you get experience if no one give you an opportunity? My wife is quickly getting frustrated.
Passed AAPC test in the summer, but everyone wants 2 years experience and full time. It would be great if they had mentors to train at these doctors offices.
I worked for a hospital for 2 years in the medical billing department had to review some dx codes or correct them if they were common dx issues, worked closely with the coders, went to school and graduated for coding had at least a year if not a little more of coding experience from a previous job and have my CCA and I still didn’t get any coding positions and I applied for 5. And 3 of them were for entry level a certificate wasn’t even required. It discouraged me SO much. Especially since PCS coding was my favorite type of coding in school.
@@graceefaceee6429 I live in Florida. I applied for 5 at the hospital I worked at and a handful at other companies. I left the hospital in November 2020 and now work as a biller for a surgery center. But I’ve been doing medical billing for 6 years now. I’ve stopped looking. A CCA is an entry level coding cert. but like how does someone gain experience and knowledge if no one is willing to give that opportunity. I get companies want the top tier people but even those top tier people started at the bottom gaining their experience and knowledge you know. At this point I’ve been out of touch with coding coding for 4 years that I feel like I need to redo an entire coding program
@@JMarie-mj8yw oh ok I see.. so you want a strictly coding position. Have you tried like the recruiting companies? Kyle did mention, sacrificing a title already obtained may be something many of us have to do since they want strictly no experience billers and coders so they can train them the way they want.
@@graceefaceee6429 I’ve been doing billing for 6 years and work with coders and some coding rejections so yes at this point I would like more hands on for coding. It doesn’t have to strictly have a coding title but I’d like to do coding related functions to get the experience so eventually I can get a coding title job if that makes sense
@@JMarie-mj8yw ohhh ok ok. Sorry I’m totally new to this industry. Is the billing aspect still financially rewarding? I like the coding I’ve done during school but I don’t know if I May enjoy the billing aspect more than the coding itself. I really hope you find what you need to achieve your goal as a coding auditor.
What a great informative interview and Mr Kyle did a great job answering every single absolutely well thought out question that Ms Victoria asked him about! So so very grateful for this video, you totally rock Ms Victoria:)
I'm curious, I have medical experience and have worked in a rehabilitation hospital as a therapy tech and a CNA for a couple of years. I am finishing up my CPC course in a couple of months and have been provided the opportunity to job shadow with the current Medical Coder at my work. Would job shadowing with an inpatient coder be something to list on my resume when I am just starting out and looking for a Coding job?
@@ContempoCoding yes. As far as what to highlight on my resume. I have a few jobs i am interested in applying for. I've pretty much done almost every non coding job. Preregistration, scheduling, front and back desk, and referrals. Patient/client billing. FSA/HSA..etc..and currently in school for my BS in HIM.
I am currently studying for the CCS and I heard Kyle say the highest paying jobs were the inpatient, Auditor but I did not understand the last one. Could someone tell me what that was? I love listening to this channel!
He spoke about CDI certification ( Clinical documentation improvement) specialist that is obviously a very high paying job if you have the credentials for it!!
Hi Victoria - I don't know if you'll see this because SO much has happened these past 2 years and heaven knows where you are now! LOL Anyway, I was/am a CMT who is in dire straights. Sadly, transcription is really a dead field. I was a transcriptionist for over 20 years, so I have the terminology down pat. Have you had transcriptionists transfer to coding? Do they do well? I feel like the practice tests and the books might get me ready for the CPC test. I've been out of work caring for my mom with stage IV cancer and I would really rather not go back to school AGAIN if I can do this myself. What do you think? Can a transcriptionist transition easily to coding? Thanks again for these videos. You've certainly found your calling!
I am so thankful for this video. By far this one has helped me take notes as I prepare to enter the HIT program. One question I have is even though I've worked from home for 5 years now, I still have a concern about being ready for the real workforce when my HIT Degree (2 years) will be 100% virtual. Obviously, this is now the virtual age, but what about hearing other questions in real-time in class with everyone present. My classes will offer simulations and a 6-week rotation prior to completing the program, but this is a real concern of mind. Am I just overthinking since this is a new way? Do we really not need in-class learning?
