Well I am amazed, first of all the building from start to finish was incredible and a pleasure to watch, the whole job from start to finish was a credit to yourself and your company. I live in the UK, and the lawn we have is tired and old, having watched your landscaping articles we have decided to part company with the old lawn, rip it out completely, then, redesign it, First of all, we will get tonnes of sand and use that as a base, then lay loads of turf on top. The lawn we have sits on a layer of clay, this will be dug away, it was only through watching your video I realised, that the best way to landscape is to do it properly and use loads of sand as drainage. You have done an amazing job, clean tidy and professional, I just wish the builder's in this Country would be as professional as you all are, thank you.

Don't do sand. Sand is very porous, and deep rooting plants won't get the water they require. Go with a good planting soil and you'll be fine.

nice details, i like the wooden corners & window trims, especialy like the garrage door opener pn the side, the skylights & lighting--good job---relocating the tree---pain in the butt, i will go back and watch that, kinda too nice for a garrage---no rafters to store crap, haha !

Thanks for the videos. I've watched all 21. You should do an indepth walkthrough about foundation and framing. You do good clean work, but I'd rather watch 40 videos (if need be) showing how it's actually done, than 21 videos that show and summarize the end result of each step.

Great video series about how you and your company operate. I have been a high end residential carpenter for a number of years and I am very particular about my jobs. The small details are what I think set a hack from professional...ie. Cleaning out the stud bays and taking the extra steps to ensure everything is just so. Nice job.

Man that was a fantastic video journey. Really appreciate the attention to detail and care in the build! Now I'm really curious about Canadian vs American home building codes!

Is vinyl cladding used often on high end projects in Canada? In Australia, Vinyl is the cheap and dodgy option. usually placed over the top of old cladding when people do cheap renovations. Maybe you have better quality product over there.

Great question -- I typically tell clients I am "allergic" to vinyl siding and we don't use it much... but... this was a garage build and the original house had vinyl so we matched the house. For us, vinyl stands up well in our rainy climate and it offers some clients a cost effective way to cover area that isn't so visible. Also, we have to rainscreen any siding we install, and the nature of vinyl is that it is naturally rainscreened, with a hollow in behind the material. That all said, we go out of our way to hide the corners and the "j" channel with real wood trim - and run the seams away from the door so the shadow lines are hidden. Currently, we install a lot more hardie and cedar product, as the trend has moved on. Thanks for watching!

Hey, good stuff! A year since you posted this but I just watched it now.
You know what would be really helpful? Any tips on how to interview or find builders and craftspeople that have the sort of attitude toward their work that you do. Every time I start asking questions I immediately start to feel like a problem, know-it-all client, when all I really want to know is whether the builder cares about his craft.

Are you at liberty to say (roughly) how much this cost the owner? Just looking for a ballpark number, give or take $10k.

+Julio Diaz So many factors determine price - but yes, we build in Vancouver BC where the real estate is amongst the highest in the world! We started by renovating small bungalows... these were the lowest price point in the Lower mainland of Vancouver BC... We have built everything from small sheds to 4000+ sq ft luxury homes.
