  • MI Healthy Mind premieres its new season with an exclusive interview with Oscar-Nominated Actress, Author and Mental Health Advocate Mariel Hemingway this Sunday, July 24, 2016 at noon on WMYD - TV TV20 Detroit - WMYD.
MI Healthy Mind’s hosts Michael Hunter and Elizabeth Atkins explore a vast range of subjects (addiction, depression, bipolar, autism etc) with valuable insights and lively conversation from popular entertainers, experts, athletes, and other newsmakers. But most important, MI Healthy Mind showcases real people, “the heroes” who have overcome and triumphed over their mental health issues. In the wake of incredible loss, or adversity, these people found a way to turn personal tragedy into hope.

Every single day of my adult life I awaken and think to myself "Oh no, another day". Never ending psychological and physical anxiety with an extreme yearning for a certain passage of my childhood. I've tried and abused almost all types of medication and have built a high tolerance to them all. 42 years of life have taken a huge toll on me and my will for living. I've reached that truly hopeless state of staying alive just not to hurt my family, who although I know they love me, they have become distant towards me because of my substance abuse issues and can only see this aspect to me and not my real self or the pain I try so hard to conceal from them. Life, who'd live it?

I hear you about the waking up part, I am there too. What has been helping me is my rescue dogs. I live and do my best for them, they need me. If you have the opportunity, I would recommend adopting a rescue dog from a shelter: no one is more grateful than a rescue dog, they know where they have been, they know where YOU are. Or a rescue cat, donkey or parrot, pig, you name it. Animals are friends who can help maybe if not heal, they can help you cope. Also, human friends are not to be underestimated. If you don't have any currently, there is always an opportunity to make a friend! Is there any particular thing in your life that you do take an interest in? even if it's just walking down the block, smelling the flowers. Watching the clouds in the sky. Animals and the earth, to me, are the only things that i derive calmness from. I hope you have something similar in your life. Sending you love ❤

@@mihealthymind3497 Thank you so much for your very kind offer, but I've been through everything that's available for supposedly helping mental health and none of it has been affective. From cbt, counselling, psychology, psychiatry and even meditation. I've never been able to work and so I have to rely on what's offered to me and not what or who I choose. I am what I imagine a very elderly person to be like in terms of accepting and embracing death. I have nothing left to offer or to be offered. I apologise for my pessimism and I thank you again wholeheartedly.

Neurotypical people will never understand the struggle it is to live with an eternal melancholy. I personally have tried a lot of medications, but in the end they turn you in something you are not. The only thing you can do is trying to balance that feelings filling your days with creative tasks (Well at least it works for now for me). I use to drink a lot, but it made it worst, and the psychological toll was even worst the each next day. Whe I stopped my life became a lot more endurable.

I have mental illness, bipolar disorder, eating disorder, ptsd, personality disorder. I believe it is caused from genetics, environment, and abuse in childhood. I am concerned for my two children. I recognize my daughter is struggling with it and am afraid for her. She is now 35 years old, I have been ill since 12 and at that time it was NEVER acknowledged, so I didn't get treatment until the 90's, up until then I self medicated with drugs and alcohol, because when you are in so much pain and need to function you do what you have to do to survive. My daughter concerns me, she has all the episodes I had and is in denial. She needs the universe to line up God, mother nature, whatever, to line up and help her realize she needs to get help now.

it's also due to poor diet, bad diet causes inflammations, in brain as well, try a vegan diet, begin with a raw vegan diet, listen to Robert Morse, good luck

there was an E.H. bio done and placed here on the net (YT),i have this inside forever as out of the ''suggested for you recommendations'' section done by google,I'll never forget..years ago, two,in fact...i went looking for this specific film just recently and it had vanished...the manner in which his life was rolled out here in comparison to what I vividly remember??? i watched the first bio back to back,,,I'm over fifty and it made me cry,,,so this hints to me to a big problem...why should i care..?yeah,uuhhh, that's just it,,,it rolls about from the hands of imagination into a ball of confusion, then concern,,,i consider the thing as i seem to do with everything,,? to be patient with a thing, understanding will come...is a thing right or a thing wrong..?...let's make up our own minds...first the lies need to stop...then follows abuse and neglect...those are salvaging terms and we're not that far gone are we.?. that's healthy thinking,,,

Mariel's voice sounds like Maria Bamford's voice! Her sister Muriel's voice was the polor opposite : low, husky, dark tone.
