It looks like a building in the UK , when it is in Melbourne .

Yes it does, many buildings in Australia follow UK style architecture due to high number of British in 1800s.

Yes I noticed the English look Re some of the buildings. Watching as I type. Oh just went past my Form 1 and 2 classrooms. I went to high school there. Travelled by train every day to school. But never saw inside the other buildings or the grounds until a few years ago, absolutely stunning, only saw inside of church and school hall. Had fun at school there. Some of the orphans who lived there had a few sad stories to tell. Still close friends especially with one girl who lived there. Gee I’m going way back to the 1960s 🥴😂

I’m guessing you know quite a bit of history of the Abbotsford convent. Not all good, some very sad stories I heard from the orphans who lived there. Won’t go into detail of course. Sometimes it still hurts me, watching how beautiful it is and everything that has changed for the better. But some of the girls had nightmares for years. Some still talk of them, not all the time, we talk of fun things as well. . And the history of the much older laundry workers who lived and worked there until they passed, they had a very sad existence as I was told by my classmates who were orphans there. There was a part we were never allowed to go near. We sadly called it, The bad girls part, those girls were from a women’s prison.
The orphans or borders as they were called, is very sad. I traveled to school via train from a very happy family and upbringing, we were called day borders even I was physically hit, only twice, some orphans hit more and they did most of the cleaning of the convent, polishing banisters etc. If you don’t want this comment here you can delete it.
