Tridion Tips: Translations

Thanks Alvin...understanding how translations work in the context of your inheritance model can definitely be complex to understand at first. It's always nice to see when prospects start to understand and appreciate the whole BluePrinting thingy :)

A subtle, yet powerful, feature with the push and pull translations is that the Translation Manager feature automatically includes the right items in the translation job. For push translations, that means it will only send original source and localized content while skipping items in the BluePrint that haven't been translated.
Similarly, for pull translations, the source items come from either content in the source language (e.g., English for the US) or already-translated items up the BluePrint.
What does this mean in practice? As an example, if you had a BluePrint with a English (US) source to English (CA) to French (CA) relationship, translations would automatically use the best source and target content. No English (CA) translation yet? No problem, a pull translation will translate that item from English (US) to French (CA). But what if you wanted all the translated content for English (CA) first? Then do a push translation first. 😀
