    The sound contrast of the F7s with the SD40s and GP40s is remarkable.

    Great videos!! I've been enjoying watching them. Thanks so much for sharing. So cool to see a load of Mack R Model cabs on their way from Sheller Globe in Ohio to the Mack factory in Macungie, Pa at 2:56.

    What a cool video! Thanks for sharing! The WM was probably one of the toughest railroads back in the day.

    Enjoy seeing the old f's. Also like the fact that people still respected property-- no graffiti.
    Would have been saying extra prayers as a conductor or brakeman on some of these where you see rear pushers shoving hard on the caboose.

      Also enjoy seeing all the old roadnames on the freight cars that are now fallen flags. The WM would run those Fs on Fall excursion trains from Baltimore to Cumberland sometimes.

      The conductor and brakeman who would usually ride in the caboose came aboard the shoving locomotives for safety. And yes, Bob, it's lovely to see railroad equipment with no graffiti. What's wrong with people today? Have they nothing better to do than deface the property of others? What would these "artists" do if they woke up one morning and their houses were covered with graffiti? How would they like it?

    @Railroad Media Archive Truly great videos, thanks for uploading, I am curious though if you happen to have any footage that shows the B&O or Chessie System working any part of their old Georgetown Branch Line that ran from Silver Spring into Georgetown near Washington DC, plenty of great pictures to be had but would love to know if anyone knows of any video footage of it

    I wish someone would have taken videos around Ohiopyle, PA. In retrospect, those SX-70 shots I took around '77 are priceless. It didn't seem so atr the time. Seeing "old" WM F-7's on the b&O there appeared like a waste of film.

      It helped that the WM's F units were in far better shape than the B&Os. The WM had a first class locomotive maintenance team.

      WM had only 1 F7B in red/black paint and this is it. 14:30
      I would see this loco in Cincinnati in 1979.
      renumbered of course.

    WM would disappear into the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in 1983, several years before the B&O itself fell into the hands of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway and ultimately CSX.

    8:00 I dont think I saw a single 100 ton car in that train. Appeared to be all 50 (55?) and 70 ton cars. Must've been ore.
    I assume WM loaded ore in Baltimore, where was it bound for?

    • @TheTomasio1975
      @TheTomasio1975 5 лет назад

      It does appear they are west bound. The iron ore could go to the P&LE and any of the mills around Pittsburgh. Or the N&W (old P&WV) and the Wheel-Pitt mill in Monessen.

    • @TheTomasio1975
      @TheTomasio1975 4 года назад

      @UCwvn7ViLdQGJkntgxyCiAXg You are incorrect sir. Look between the 11:30 to 13:30 time marks, specifically the 12:24 mark. This is the same train as at the 8:00 min mark, the cars are clearly loaded with iron ore, hence the mid train helpers.

    • @SilverBulletOBW
      @SilverBulletOBW 4 года назад

      P&LE -bound freights coming up the Connellsville extension would ultimately be handed off at Dickerson Run yard, just west of C’ville. Meanwhile, the alpha jets saw some WM power travel as far west as Michigan on the N&W before turning back for home rails!
