For those that don't speak French, The Mason complimented to Dan as he entered the room: "that the roof work came out magnificently". The work they've done throughout was indeed magnifique!
What a great compliment to get from the stonemason, for someone who probably worked on loads of beautiful buildings already. I'm sure there are already loads of people who are just gobsmacked by how beautiful it is looking already.👍❤️
Can you send your stone mason my way? I've been waiting for mine to show up to do the job he agreed to for over a year - I'm not exaggerating. They are few and far between around here.
Les maçons sont très rares, the son of the carpenter who built the new front doors for my maison de maître proudly tells his mates that he is a maçon but in UK terms he's a bricklayer, nevertheless still a respected artisan but not a stonemason.. Dan and his mates have done a great job on the chateau thus far. I don't blame them for not wanting to slate the roofs in winter, far too dangerous.
I can only imagine how much fun you guys have together, facing hardships on this epic journey. You’re making history in this lifetime and you’re bringing history back to life. ❤️
YES I am always mystified when people restore and finish a house on barren land and then start the garden. When we did our resoration I did the garden, planted 120 trees and 55 roses and many rhodos and azaleas. I dug up along the front of the house and planted roses, clematis and other shrubs and after three years it was amazing. Sadly we sold the house to people who didn't care about gardens and I foolishly looked it up on Google and it was a huge mess with nothing pruned !
Even if the interior is not complete a finished facade and landscaping might attract some business with wedding or family photos. The chateau has multiple potentials.
I have watched you for many years now, Dan, and seen how you have grown and in yourself. Everything you touch is so good. Today's vlog is magical, seeing it all come together and seeing you get excited. Everything is well planned out . 😊
Congrats on another huge successful Movember campaign! Everyone who donated deserves a big round of applause as well. Well done everyone!! Crappy days to be landscaping but the trees and bushes will love the moisture and get their roots settled in nicely!
@cathymc8365 Except, as far as I can tell from the video, none of the bare root stuff was given at least an hour's soaking before planting, and a good drenching after planting, as anyone who's familiar with bare root planting knows if you want to exponentially increase the likelihood of successful establishment. Both these things are essential elements of bare root establishment, but by giving them a thorough drenching after planting, it ensures that any airpockets are removed and all of the soil is washed into direct contact with the roots, especially the feeder roots. I wish Dan every success with good establishment, but these REALLY expensive specimens due to their age, & if it had been my money and plants, I'd not have risked taking any shortcuts; the older the specimen, the longer it takes for a bare root specimen to acclimatise to new growing conditions, including soil, not least of all, the local mycorhizzal fungi, even in dormancy as is the case here. It's why you will often see some people recommending the planting of young specimens because they tend to adapt more quickly. I only hope that Dan's decision to choose Rhododendrons on this scale doesn't come back to haunt him in future as they can become a rampant, difficult to eradicate nuisance, outcompeteing native flora and fauna, in part due to their allopathic nature and tendency to harbour the very nasty fungal disease, phytopthera, which is lethal to oak trees; this applies to Rhododendron Ponticum and its cultivars only. It's classed as an invasive species under UK law & it's an offence to plant or dispose of in the wild or to allow it to escape your property.
@@pinkelephants1421 it was raining lots when Dan came back before anything got planted...pretty sure the bare root materials got drenched and then some. Enough rain will fall and eliminate air pockets over the winter. Also, maybe they did get watered in but were done so off carmera? These plant materials are now dormant. He is in France, not the UK and has plenty of space to take care of rampant Rhododendrons. What Dan plants is up to him.

Dan, NIck, Brian and Orange Pants Man, your crazy adventure was the inspiration for our donations. Thank you for your leadership. Another beautiful day at Chateau Chaument. The Brotherhood of Real Men!!
So amazing the amount of changes accomplished in one day Dan. And jazz music, cool! Planting, Mason getting more work done, almost electric connected, and the amount you accomplished in the Movember Challenge, incredible.
