Old Scraps and Hand Tools...This One Nearly Broke Me!

  • I built a shoji style desk lamp from a 150 year old beam using only hand tools. No power tools were used for the build. I got the beams from a dear friend that got them out of his first home during a remodel. All of his children were born in the house. I originally built a lamp for him as he is interested in Japanese style woodworking and i knew the lamp would have a deeper meaning to him because of the material used for the build.
I unfortunately lost most of that footage when filming. So i decided to build a second lamp. Hope you enjoy the video as much as i enjoyed this build.
Welcome to SB Woodworks! I appreciate your time and want to give the best value in my projects and videos that i can. If you think ive done so, please consider subscribing!
I try not to say too much in my long form videos and reserve most commentary for short form videos.
I sincerely hope you enjoy these videos as much as i enjoy creating them!

People like you show again and again that you don't need big machines to make beautiful things.

3:30 - I never knew I wanted to see a Skyrim Draugr do woodworking until today.
PS: This looks amazing, and I wish I had the skill to do it

I think you are more of an artist than a woodworker. Well done.

Wow what a misleading title. No power tools ? Man you are a machine. And if that isn’t bad enough you proceed to complete the entire project “on” your table saw 😂. All kidding aside you do some amazing work. Very beautiful project. New sub here. Can’t wait to see what you do in the future

Fantastic work mate. I've gotten used to seeing people making similar lamps but they always seem to have the latest top of the lines tools to do the job. It was very refreshing to see someone make something so nice without all those things. Great work.

Thanks so much! I hope people see that you can still make cool stuff without spending the entire bank on tools! Does it take longer? Is it more challenging? Sure does and sure is, but the satisfaction at the end really is worth the trouble. Appreciate ya!
