I haven't bought a deepmind quite yet (going to sell Juno 106 before I do so), but I was thinking about this trick again, and I think you could do the same thing but with "VCA Gain Active Voices" as the destination and use that to adjust the volume level of the 2nd unison voice (or 3rd voice or whatever). Seems like this could help create interesting sounds, would be nice to have an interval where the second note isn't quite as loud as the first. Sorry to keep commenting on your videos I just think this is cool stuff.
Voice number is also great to modulate pan (and perhaps also a little bit of filter and amp) to get a great polyphonic synth sound akin to some patches on the OB-8. Nice video.
I just picked up a deepmind after years of being curious and I have to say it has completely blown my expectations out of the water. The amount of things you can do with it is amazing and the price is just insane in my opinion. This thing shoots well above it’s price range. People compare it to a Juno 60/106, a Juno wishes it was the deepmind. Glad I finally picked mine up.
DeepMind 6/12 note: On DM 6 the Mono-3 mode uses voices 2, 3 and 4. DM 12 uses voices number 5, 6 and 7. So on DM 12 in MOD matrix there should be depth modulation 66 instead of 30.IMHO better is use MOD source Uni Voice (on DM 6 as well as on DM 12), because Uni Voice is independent on actual voice number. For octave shift there should be depth of modulation 12 or 24 etc. Uni Voice can be used for the same effect when Polyphony set to Unison-3 as well, not only for Mono(s) modes. Uni Voice depends on number of voices, not on actual voice number.
Would love to see more videos on the DM if you have anything else to share. I just got the DM12 and i'm sooo pumped to go through all these videos over and over until I'm comfortable with the DM. Cheers for all of your work on this series!
I’ve had the DM12 desktop (and the neutron) for about 3 months now and my mind is blown every time I use them. One thing though, most of the presets on the DM don’t seem to do the unit justice. It is a powerhouse though once tweaked or starting from scratch. A lot of the preset basses don’t make use of the boost or 2nd osc, the amp is low on a lot of patches, and minor stuff like that. Not complaining though. Amazing vid, thanks for posting!
Cool idea, thanks!!!! Differently, I tried applying Note Number as a mod source (didn't know it was an option, thanks for that!) to Osc 1 + 2 Fine Tuning, +16, in Mono6 and 126 Unison deTune setting....Gives a kind of Oberheim-sound.
Have fun! Also try the "Unison Voice" source in the matrix as an alternative - since releasing this video I've found that you can achieve the same thing with that.
Thank you for all your videos OS. They are very much appreciated, learning so much from them. Just got a DM12 about a month ago. I can’t seem to get this one to work though, when I set my uni voice amount to 30 the voices are still way out of tune. :( I must be doing something wrong, I’ll keep bashing on and see if I can get there. Thanks again for all your work. Cheers.
Try using the "Unison Voice" source instead - I think the numbers I chose work properly on the 6 but maybe not on the 12. You should be able to find a value that works nicely with Unison Voice (don't remember the number off the top of my head)
Thanks for the video, it's crazy how much you can do with this thing! Would a quicker way of achieving this effect be to use the chord function and program in a simple octaved chord? You could then do octaves 2 or even 3/4 octaves below that way?
You definitely could, but only if you want to play monophonically, right? Spreading unison voices means that you can use it polyphonically if you want.
@@OscillatorSink Indeed just came back here to refute my own comment as I've now tried it out (my DM12 arrived today!) - it works but only monophonically, so you can stack octaves all the way down if you want but you couldn't play for example both C3 and G3 and hear a C2 and a G2 with them, you would just hear either C3&C2 or G3&G2, depending which you hit last. Your method is the way to go now that I know better. Slight shame that the chord mode isn't polyphonic but not the end of the world.
A "configurable unison" mode would be the best of both worlds, but alas isn't possible (but it's the sort of thing Behringer could add as a firmware update as its just about voice configuration... So you could always start a petition!)
If you own a Behringer DeepMind 12 or 6 I re-created the original factory presets of a Juno-106 that you can load into it! Here's the link to a video where you can hear them and the download link is in the bio! ruclips.net/video/kLCo1tTiVjc/видео.html
I thinking in will buy the DM6 soon. This trick is AWASOME! especcialy because I love the BASSES FAT SOUNDS, but, when you do this kind of trick, this affect all the syntesis parameters for ALL THE SOUNS? or you can to SAVE this parameters for only ONE sound? For example for one special FAT BASS?. Thank you!
Cool. Why those particular numbers? Is there a higher number you can use for the mod matrix, which takes care of correcting the transposition too - maybe just making it all an octave higher or lower?
Yes exactly - I can't remember exactly what the ratio is off the top of my head, but you'll hear it when it locks into other intervals and it should scale across the keyboard when it does.
Yes, I noticed that :) I was originally wondering if there was a Deepmind 6 desktop module, but the ergonomics of this one seem better for sofa / lap playing. Trying to balance a mini keyboard and a heavy module doesn't work so well.
If 30 made the note an f# it should be 60 that makes it a C again an octave higher Hmmm..it actually isn't though. I just went and tried it and 30 doesn't even work for an octave. I have a deepmind 12 so maybe that affects it because it has more voices or something.
I love this ingenuity. But let me ask which mode in the Minilogue you meant? You mean the sub oscilator in Mono? I think the "Invert" in Poly just spreads a poly chord across octaves?
@@OscillatorSink Thank you! I discovered the "voice number" mod source on the DM before, but used it only to get some variance so far. It is really a joy to see you on this machine, keep it up please :) Your taste for and ability to communicate nice sounds is wonderful.
Hi and thanks for the great videos! One question though: after following ur tutorial when I press the same key repeatingly, each time it plays another note.. What am I doing wrong? Thanks a lot!
They're DCOs, once they're calibrated (which is a one off, automated process that takes about 40 minutes) it'll be in tune every time you turn it on. Best to run the calibration after leaving it on for an hour or so, and in my experience you probably want yo run it twice in a row if you want the filters to track nicely.
Which one do you like more? Is space a concern? Do you already have a keyboard to control it? Do you want deep programming or something more stripped back and immediate?
@@OscillatorSink to tell you the truth space is not a problem, i have a roland gaia sh01 synth to maybe control the roland JU06a module via midi. I'm more interested which synth is more reliable between those 2 synths. Thanks for replying

Your DeepMind videos are an absolute treasure. I mean, all of your videos are reliably great, but your DeepMind series is above and beyond.
Thank you!
Absolutely brilliant! My basses an leads are so much fuller now :) Behringer should really just add this feature to the Poly menu via firmware update.
Yeah, that'd be great! It seems like such an easy win.
This is genius and a great way to circumvent the lack of sawtooth in OSC 2, cheers man, awesome
I hope you have fun making cool sounds with this trick!
