Here in the USA, the “Cheese Dog” is very well known, and embraced by many. The sliced hot dog bun is filled with the Hot Dog (which is also sliced lengthwise down the middle) is placed cut side up onto the bun, and then a slice of cheese is “tucked” into the hot dog (or shredded cheese) then oven baked till cheese is melty. Its not “sandwiched”, but left “open” on the top with all the cheesiness. But hey, the way you two enjoyed it look just as tasty!
