Stage manager is going places. Movement was perfect and fluid. Timing was the same. He really does draw in your interest in the themes of the show by being so dramatic about the seemingly simple town. Delivery of "nice town. Know what I mean?" was chillingly good. This is just the first five minutes
Being a stage manager is hard. I’m currently rehearsing this play as a stage manager and oh boy, the stress. Luckily, there’s 2 other stage managers. Otherwise, I’d quit a long time ago
The young man performing as the Stage Manager really has me excited to audition for this play. I looked at some version of this play before settling for this one, and none of the other actors had me feeling the same way about that role as he does. Very good job!
Thank you for posting this. 'Our Town' was our school play when I was 16, and I was lucky enough to be chosen to play The Stage Manager.....I have to say that your Stage Manager was far better than I was, but whilst your Emily was very good our Emily was sensational! I would love to play the part again, now that I understand the nuances of Wilder's script so much more (I'm now 70)....a pity that the sound quality in Act 3 is so poor though, however I loved seeing the whole thing again.
We are currently putting on this show at my school, and it absolutely amazes me how different people interpret scenes. It just goes to show how much creative freedom there is in theater.
Our town is a realistic life that everything happening in this world are base on what we can see and our critical analysis of some characters who mime at the background of the play. Finally i may like to use this same script for my acting as it is but with different techniques Thanks i appreciated this play and Thornton Wilder for his level best in directing this play.
I'm playing Wally and Lady from the balcony, my Walley is like the one in this video, but with much more "bratty younger sibling energy" and more animated. Though my lady from the balcony needs some work... Lol It's only our third week of practice, and we have to perform it three days in a row 😭
I am only here because of a school project, but I wanted to say, Great job to all these people. This is very good so far. The acting is really great as well.
My school is doing this play in November and I am playing the Stage Manager. Thank you so much for uploading this version of them play! I received a lot of inspiration from this Stage Manager.
The Stage Manager says this performance was directed and produced by a "Rebecca" someone, but I can't for the life of me make out the last name. (Begins with an S, maybe?) Is there a link somewhere indicating cast and crew names, venue, etc.? Also, for citation purposes, would like to know date of performance (not date video uploaded) Thanks!
+Victoria Marinelli Hi Victoria, It was actually directed by Myself (Tom Gorman) and Rebecca Snape. The venue was the Ellen Terry Theatre at Coventry University in December 2012 and the lighting was by Catherine Cullinane. I can get you a full list of cast and crew if you need more info.
I recently played Mr. Webb and I can tell you that the Mr. Webb in this video were leaving out a lot of words that made the sentences run much more smoothly. Its weird to watch someone else do the part after you've just done it.
So I'm going into highschool next year, and I'm applying to arts schools. Could anyone tell me which act of the play the monologue where George gets told about how all the girls think he's gotten coincided and stuck up?
Only critique I have for the stage manager is the proper pronunciation of the play. It's not "Are Town", make sure to pronounce it correctly "Our Town".
No need for this critique. For many in the US, ‘are’ and ‘our’ are homophonous. There’s no “correctly” where regional dialect variances are concerned. The kid did great; let’s leave it at that.
@@Corridor89 wrong. The proper pronunciation is "our" not "are". Of course it can be said either way in normal talk but that's because people have caught on to it, not because its technically correct. Actually, specifically in voice and speech trainings, they teach you this with the learning of IPA (International phonetics alphabet). This is one of those words that people should learn how to pronounce correct for public speakers, actors, singers, etc. Like I said it's not a huge critique, just small.
So I tried out for the part of Emily Webb and I'm watching this to just get some knowledge. But... Did Mr.Webb actually cut his hand n the script or was that an excuse because the person playing Mr.Webb was late? XD
Kristen Arabit Wilder wanted to give people a different view of theatre so he has a tendency to make the audience aware that the chraracters know (every now and then) that they are just actors 😊
It was there, but a rights dispute over music used (a hymn of all things) got it taken down. I've appealed and if I win, I'll put the rest of the play back up. Glad you like it - we worked hard on this one.
It was a piece called 'Happy Meeting in Glory' by Ry Cooder that we played as the audience were leaving. We have a performing rights license here, so we were covered. RUclips didn't like it as it is a Sony release, though.
Tom Gorman Thanks. I'd wondered if it was one of the ones actually used in the script (and sung by the cast) as it's a longstanding aim of mine to put this play on sometime.

Nataliah Drake I agree
Being a stage manager is hard. I’m currently rehearsing this play as a stage manager and oh boy, the stress. Luckily, there’s 2 other stage managers. Otherwise, I’d quit a long time ago
That stage manager has got a whole helluva lot of talent
The young man performing as the Stage Manager really has me excited to audition for this play. I looked at some version of this play before settling for this one, and none of the other actors had me feeling the same way about that role as he does. Very good job!
This brings back memories, I played the stage manager in our high school production in 2000 and he is waaay better than I ever was.. lol
Wow, the person playing the stage manager is really good

Bev Moore I can’t believe you’re 73 now.
Wow
The young lad who plays the Stage Manager is quite effective.
yes he's wonderful for one so young.
hey, I'm doing a report for school on this play and I would love the info on where this was done and the cast list!
We are currently putting on this show at my school, and it absolutely amazes me how different people interpret scenes. It just goes to show how much creative freedom there is in theater.
Am I the only young person who is watching this voluntarily? ;-;
heck meck nope.
I am watching this for school
Voluntarily, no for school, yes

Who’s watching this for school??
My school's about to do this... I'm nervous! But more excited than so.
+Bree Ward What part did you get?
Emily Webb!
Bree Ward Wow! Big part! I got Howie Newsome, the milkman.
YAAAAS! I love Howie! My friend got Howie but they changed the name to Hattie xD
Bree Ward Interstring..
My school is doing this play in November and I am playing the Stage Manager. Thank you so much for uploading this version of them play! I received a lot of inspiration from this Stage Manager.
Your Stage Manger is very good.
Amazing Stage Manager lol
I saw this on Broadway in 1988. Stage Manager was Spalding Gray.
Wow, you were lucky to have seen him perform, RIP.
I officially have a crush on Professor Willard! lol

Any chance you still have the cast list?
I'm here because of Tom Gorman
I only lasted 7 minutes till I switched too a video of a DJ toddler getting there golden buzzer. the script is better read than preformed 🤷🏽♀️
How I miss this play.
I recently played Mr. Webb and I can tell you that the Mr. Webb in this video were leaving out a lot of words that made the sentences run much more smoothly. Its weird to watch someone else do the part after you've just done it.
My school is doing this play. I'm got Professor Willard and Constable Warren.
i got howie newsome ha
Triforce of Awesomeness I did this a year ago, and was Mr. Webb. Love this play!
I'm professor Willard, Joe Crowell, Si Crowell and dead man 1/2
If you're watching this for school watch in 1.5 speed thank me later
What a great Stage Manager!!!
So I'm going into highschool next year, and I'm applying to arts schools. Could anyone tell me which act of the play the monologue where George gets told about how all the girls think he's gotten coincided and stuck up?
Kylie Kate middle of Act 2
conceited vs. coincided.
Anyone else here bc of odysseyware
You should have put a description to this. I’ve noticed that if you don’t put a description, the video doesn’t make sense.
We should turn this into a meme, that way when people come here for a school project, it's not as "schooly"
Anyone here from Minnick?

why are there 3 chairs in each house when 4 people live in each house?
So I tried out for the part of Emily Webb and I'm watching this to just get some knowledge. But... Did Mr.Webb actually cut his hand n the script or was that an excuse because the person playing Mr.Webb was late? XD
Kristen Arabit it's actually in the script 😊😊
Kristen Arabit Wilder wanted to give people a different view of theatre so he has a tendency to make the audience aware that the chraracters know (every now and then) that they are just actors 😊
Yeah its definitely in the script. I played Mr. Webb in my school's production last year.
33:54 why's Simon yelling like that? It sounds like he's whining, not scolding/chiding the orchestra!
also his drunk walk doesn't look very drunk.
are they highschool students? they look young.
Love the narrator, but no act 2?
It was there, but a rights dispute over music used (a hymn of all things) got it taken down. I've appealed and if I win, I'll put the rest of the play back up. Glad you like it - we worked hard on this one.
Tom Gorman Which hymn? And did you have to pay for the rights to use the hymn in the stage production, over and above the rights for the play?
It was a piece called 'Happy Meeting in Glory' by Ry Cooder that we played as the audience were leaving. We have a performing rights license here, so we were covered. RUclips didn't like it as it is a Sony release, though.
Tom Gorman Thanks.
I'd wondered if it was one of the ones actually used in the script (and sung by the cast) as it's a longstanding aim of mine to put this play on sometime.
There's only 'Blessed be the ties that bind' and 'Art Thou Weary' specified in the script, both of which are out of copywright.
What is up with the weird, inconsistent, accents?
Italian straw hat was better
So I hear. But the leading man was shite.
Tom Gorman right, bring it on Irish man!!! You've started something you really didn't want to haha
I am trying out for this play tomorrow
Theatre 👍🏾🔃👎🏾
this play seems very boring for an eleven year old who is about to audition for it
This is theater, Not disney channel
Grant Harmond ironically disney just did an episode on of of their shows based on this play
It does however probably resemble heavily what your family life will be like far in the future when you settle down and are valuable lessons.
lol now your 14 and I'm 14 and doing this. I love this play
33:45
34:34
Just saw this today at my school show and it’s litterly the most confusing thing to follow and a bit Boring tbh. Best €4 I’ve ever spent😉😕
Fuck summer reading.
학생들인가??
남유정
나도 그렇게 생각해.
