    This was the temple tax.. not a government tax. God is exempt from paying it of course, being the God of the temple. Yet he gave up his rights and paid it so as not to offend. He proves he is God by doing the miracle.

    I certainly believe that you are correct however, I think there is a little more to the story. I maintain that Jesus also had Peter literally demonstrate how he was to be fishers of men as Jesus had promised to make him. Go where you are sent, minister to the first person you encounter without passing judgement on the individual and not relying on your own skills.

    You are one of the first I found that recognizes that "nevertheless so that WE might not cause offense" is Jesus declaring the Exemption he just talked about FOR Peter too! But this also means that Jesus' main point was to reveal the Doctrine of Sonship to Peter and that the miracle is the Demonstration of what Jesus just taught!!!
    I posted a quick video about this because Jesus teaching and demonstrating Sonship here is missed and at least YOU declare our Sonship as our birthright taught in this passage ❤😊

    The answer to unlocking the text is to ask the right questions? Why did he pay a debt he did not owe? Why did he pay Peter's debt, a debt Peter evidently couldn't pay?

    • @lovetheradicaljesus
      @lovetheradicaljesus 5 месяцев назад

      Peter, being a Law Keeping Observant Jew, paid the Tax. It was not a debt he couldn't pay because the Tax Collectors ONLY asked about Jesus (who they wondered if him claiming Messiahship meant he wouldn't pay) this means in the text it is assumed Peter would pay... and that's why when Jesus says Peter not causing offense as a part of the WE means that Jesus was all along telling Peter - YOU are a Son who doesn't owe what you've always paid anymore ❤❤❤

    • @fxt363
      @fxt363 5 месяцев назад

      @lovetheradicaljesus no, you are mistaken. Peter had just declared "you are the son of the living god" (Matt.16), but has forgotten already that if he was the Son of God, he didn't owe temple tax. He paid the debt anyway, and for Peter too, and that is the message.

      @@fxt363 where in the text is it that Peter forgot about his declaration that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God? You're literally making things up.

    • @fxt363
      @fxt363 5 месяцев назад

      @lovetheradicaljesus you don't need to. That's a question a toddler in the faith would ask. Right throughout the gospels, it's Peter that is quick to pipe up with the right answers, but is even quicker to forget them when it really matters. This is just another example of it.

    Your partially wrong about this. One-Jesus paid this tax as to not offend those in capernium because Paul had already told them yes. Second- in Luke they clearly state that they were crucifying Jesus because he told others not to pay taxes.
    Luke 23:2. And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this [fellow] perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
    A free child of god owes nothing to anyone except to love thy neighbor.
    Romans 13:8
    8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
    In Matthew when he says render to God what is gods and to Caesar what is Caesars, they marveled after him (speaking to the Pharisees) because they knew ALL IS GODS and therefore Caesar owns NOTHING and is entitled to NOTHING. This is why the church is a tax exempt organization to this day. Also be it known that all married couples with or without children in one home are by definition A CHURCH. So in summation all of the family of God, are tax exempt, biblically and leagally to this very day. Look up title 26 sec 151 c…..God bless.

      😊 that was good. But as Christian’s we don’t want to be militant no matter how right we perceive ourselves. The government will win in the end and you will have a prison ministry. Jesus Christ didn’t come to earth to change governments but to transform hearts.Peace and love should reign not vigilantism.

      I would say that the statements of the Jews shouldn't be taken as Truth... to accept what anyone is quoted as saying in the Bible as truth is dangerous 😂

    "Why Did Jesus Tell Peter To Fish For Taxes?" sounds like the start of a joke.
    I don't know why, "Why Did Jesus Tell Peter To Fish For Taxes?"
    lol
    But seriously, considering we don't know who wrote these documents at the earliest 50-70 years then 150 years plus I don't think we need to worry about it. We have no originals just copies of copies. Really it reads like men making stuff up for themselves.
    So a book says a thing and that is all we have.
    You can probably tell I am no longer convinced by the claims in this book that people make.
    Never the deity, always the people that usually want something.
    Be well and keep safe.

      @@yahngtoonz Thank you for your reply.
      That is very kind of you to comment to my message from 2 months ago now.
      I was a Christian and have found myself simply no longer convinced.
      There was more to it, of course long story short, but I do like to ask people that still believe, if they remember when they first became convinced and by who. Sometimes it's also the why they believe but this can get tricky for some people if they think about it too much. Most often, the answer is, when they were very young and by family, just the same as my story.
      I am pleased you did not take offence as that really was not my intention.
      I think any ideas can be ridiculed but not the people making them.
      I do understand that it's a difficult line as most people take on these ideas and claims as if they were their own and then feel personally attacked. Honestly, these ideas are given and most often the person may not realise what has happened to them. As an example 97% of the people in Iraq are Muslim. It was about 82% of Hindus living in Nepal and about 65% Christian living in the US. To my mind, the majority of these geographically separated people were given these ideas, thoughts and beliefs in a particular deity from a young age before critical think occurred. This is just how we learn as people. We are told that fire is hot, don't run into the road and of course these is a god by our trusted parents, guardians, family, communities before we are truly able the think and process ourselves. From this method each generation indoctrination the next in the area that the people live in.
      Again for example, in 2020, about 68% of Utahns have reported as being members of 'The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' or Mormons.
      This number is considerably less than New Jersey where the population percentage is 0.40%.
      Idaho and Wyoming are the second and third highest reported populations of LDS members and they are direct physical neighbours of state Utar.
      New Jersey and Rhode Island are a very long way off the epicentre of Utar by this example. I do know many other factors influence the growth of religions but time and again childhood indoctrination is seen at work keeping religions by geographically regions.
      Then confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance takes over to confirm these unprovable claims. The way religions use the 'call and repeat' (*) process of a church service continually reinforces these ideas. If a person stops attending and then these processed usually brings them back.
      The problem for me is I simply fail to see a deity in the process anymore, just people.
      If you think about what you know of

      @@grayintheuk8021 2 thousand years ago, 2 months ago, 2 minutes ago- makes no difference to me. Christianity is no different than any other man-made religion, so I don't blame you, I doubt it's needed. But in my opinion, a one-on-one personal relationship with whomever it is you believe in (Allah, God, Jesus, Buddha, Shiva the Universe, or simply yourself) is something completely different.
      As for me, I was baptized Catholic as a baby but had no say in it, it's just something my parents chose for me because they and everyone around them were/are Catholics. I have nothing against the religion, however, the carrying or worshipping of a Jesus statue or a Virgin Mary statue was not my thing lol- it felt awkward. Then as a teen, I got baptized into the Christian church because my siblings converted to Christianity, and I believe that people usually become like those they hang around with (not always, but I see it a lot), and being the youngest, I too got baptized and adopted the lifestyle. I have nothing against my fellow Christians, but if I am being honest, I never was into standing in front of the altar, surrounded by others that were doing the same, with our hands in the air while music played- I speak for myself when I say it felt more like a concert than an intent to communicate and grow a spiritual relationship with the one I believe in. I much prefer to go into deep thinking and meditation alone in my room to improve my spirituality. Anyway, then I was introduced to the Church of Scientology (took the E-Meter test at a shopping mall), but there was no baptism there, only a contract that one needs to sign- "the billion-year contract." Honestly, no offense to my fellow Scientologist, but that seemed a bit ridiculous to me lol. I wasn't a fan of the L. Ron Hubbard statue worshipping either, so I went back to Christianity. Recently, I came across LDS missionaries, and after about a year of talks, they managed to convert someone close to me, and I followed so that this someone whom I love dearly wouldn't be alone in the religion, being that nobody else in the family was an LDS member. The LDS church is the last I was baptized into, but I wouldn't mind learning about other religions, but just learn about them without getting involved anymore- just to observe. I have also enjoyed learning about the Jewish faith, Islamic faith, and Hinduism. They all have taught me many things, but I try to focus on just one: Love others as yourself. Simple. I've learned a lot from the different churches, but I am slowly coming to my own conclusions about things from my own experiences. I could be wrong, but I felt like profit was of too much importance in all the religions I got involved with, so now I do things SOLO. If I want to communicate with a deity or anyone, or even if I just wish to communicate with the atoms that make up my physical existence, I do it myself, it's between me and that someone, that life force or that deity. I don't need a preacher nor church president, or a church prophet. But don't get me wrong, I've met tons of cool and friendly people through these religions that showed me love and kindness that I won't forget.
      I now often see religions as languages, like in the story of the bible "The Tower of Babel." Languages, or in other words, religions that seem to separate the people just like countries and borders separate the people- of course, this is just how my mind pictures it sometimes when talking about different religions, not that it's a fact. From my point of view, the world is divided. And if the world is divided, if the people aren't focused on the same goal, attaining our full potential as a species can become impossible. In other words, if God (Allah, Shiva, or whomever) is the ultimate supreme being, humans will never become like God (Allah, Shiva, etc.), our best version of ourselves, as long as we are divided by countries and religions. I think this world needs a lot of improvement, but that's why we are here, to either destroy it or make it better.
      I like what you said about the "call and repeat." I see it a lot, I just didn't know there was a name for it. I see it in schools and religions. Get them while they're young and the possibilities are endless. I see it in the media with the "mockingbird" tactic. In all honesty, I found myself agreeing with a lot of what you wrote, and if you'd like to share your story as well, I am all ears, you have my attention. Cheers, Gary! And thanks for being friendly.
