My 2nd grade music teacher taught us this song, which she played on her auto harp. That was almost 60 years ago, and I still remember it. I don't remember her name, but she taught us Molly Malone, Loch Lomond, and I Gave my Love a Cherry.
This song has been used by football (soccer) fans for a long time! They just change the town name, and change the song after; "...through streets wide and narrow, singing..." at which point another chant is essentially tacked on the end to imply Ms Malone is chantting for their team! This was actually the first version of this song I heard as a boy, being sung at Home Park, the home of Plymouth Argyle (a club that definitely should have more importance for US soccer fans)! Wonder if 'this version' of the song actually started at one of the several Dublin clubs?
I have done my research as to wether she was real or fictitious and my conclusion is that young men have always immortalised beautiful ladies in song so yes she was real plus there is the record of a Molly Malone passing away in 1699. Great song along with many more Irish ones .Professor Ken.
Most groups - like the Dubliners - turn this sad song into a sing-along waltz-time hack for tourists. The whole point of the song is missed. :( At least U2 and Sinead managed to convey the sadness of "That's how I lost my sweet Molly Malone"
Do I think there was a fishwife named Mary or Margaret who was called "Molly" in 17th/18th Century Dublin? Probably, almost certainly yes. Do I think one individual can be connected to this song? If there is any evidence for this, I haven't seen it.
A land down under could be seen as the unofficial anthem of Australia, its was written by a Scottish man but its not really relevant . There's nothing to say that even official national anthems need to be written by natives
Maybe Molly is real person, I don't know. But she is always a symbol about the poor Irish folks, their hard life and starving in historiy. I love her story, but I' ll never touch her woman parts. This seems me disrespectful !

What a great memory! Funny how music takes us back.
Another wonderful video. Beautiful singing.
Haha, yeah right!
Great video, thank you! My Irish mom would play this song for me and I was wondering about that statue. Looks like Molly had the best clam.
I got this song to learn in keyboard lesson, trinity music syllabus ❤
From India🇮🇳
I am named Molly but from Africa never been to Ireland.
Praying for Dublin there seems to be some trouble there
Thank you, unfortunately we have a lot of racists at the minute when their anger should be directed at the government not refugees ❤
Tell Dublin I miss her.
molly malone is actually a scottish sang. written by james yorkston as a music hall sang poking (friendly fun ) at the irish.
Who was the sculptor? Appropriately a Dubliner, Jeanne Patricia Rynhart (1946-2020) , nee Scuffil, and according to her photo, a pretty colleen.
Thanks for the addition.
her statue is certainly touched in a couple of areas quite a bit
added that comment a bit too early
Haha, yes sir we explain that! 😁
In Dublin's fair city
Where they touch Molly's titties .....
because it brings "good luck"! I guess the Irish are quite superstitious?
I thought this😂
2:06 video starts
This isn’t tik tok
my opinion is it really doesnt matter if she was real or not its what she represents

Yes I am-a real person
Could be. Evey ledgen is based on a real person or persons
Yes usually is.

That certainly makes sense. Thanks for chiming in!
Am i culturally appropriating if i generally call taurus men "Malone"?
How can the song be the unofficial anthem of Dublin when it was written and published by a Scotsman?

Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland yet he was English.

yall that’s my great grandmother
No, you didn't make me physically ill - I fast-forwarded till you weren't singing any more.
Haha! Brilliant idea! 💡 😁
Your singing actually isn't half bad
Hahaha, yeah right! That definitely isn’t a gift of mine, haha.
Your singing isn't ok, what is awful is you are singing in a different key then the background track. Thank you for the info about Molly Malone.
Oh I’m very aware lol. Definitely not one of my gifts! 😄 I’m glad that you enjoyed the video.
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogy I meant to say you singing its ok...the problem is the music in the background is in a different key....
Please dont ever sing on a video again.
Haha! Oh I’m well aware of my lack of talents there!
Lol
LOVE CANNON & BALLS VERSION OF THAT SONG SO FUNNY
I had to look that one up haha. I can see it’s a classic.
You need a singing lesson!
Haha, lord I know! Definitely not a gift of mine. 😀
It was not that bad lol
