I got my first one after 11 years of waiting for one to show up at a decent price found out it was built a year after I was born it's a 21 year old bass I love it so much it also feels surprisingly lighter than others I've tried haven't weighed it yet so not 100% sure

I like T-birds. They have a cool gothic vibe to their sound

No one describes a 1970 Formula Firebird as “flawed”. It’s a stunning car that elicits an emotional response for a target market, but it’s not for everyone. Neither is the Tbird, but it IS the bass for me.

Possible the most rock & roll bass ever. Love them.

Gibson used the Babicz bridge for the 2013 model and switched back to the bad old bridge for the 2015 model.

I have 2 of these One is a 78 and I have a Rex brown. The 78 has neck dive but sounds better than the Rex. 2 different guitars because the Rex is a glue on neck. The Rex has a slightly smaller headstock so neck dive is not an issue. Also it has the hipshot bridge which is great. I use these basses when I’m in a certain mood but I don’t think they should be your main axe. Still love them though

I have the short scale version but yes the Gibson quality control is at a premium! Every Gibson bass I’ve owned had crap build quality: thing is would ever change it- hell NO love my Gibson’s!

    Nice review mahn
I love what the Thunderbird looks like, its so iconic, but the amount of negatives that always comes with it has kept me from buying one. I would personally rather save up and get a Dingwall D-Roc.

I'm nobody of consequence, but I love the Thunderbird. Among the most beautiful instruments ever made. Negatives? Sure. It'll make your playing too good. Folks won't want to play with you. It'll make you too irresistible to the specific gender you want attracted to you. Losing you many (insecure) friends. It'll lower your bad cholesterol while simultaneously raising your good cholesterol. No downside to that, actually.
All joking aside, neck dive can be delt with. And that's the only really negative I've ever experienced playing one. Reposition the button higher on the wing and get a good, thick, wide leather strap. Now you look good and your bass will stay where you want it. That's a win-win right there!

    .
You would think that (as much as those things cost) they would shield the cavity, put a decent bridge on (like the Red Brown signature) and heat press (angle/bend) the headstock so they don't snap off.
Hell, they could charge a few hundred extra (though they shouldn't) and do it up right.
That being said... They're massively better than the Rickenbackers.

This demo was awful. Two fine humbuckers in that bass and he stays in the upper register, the tone turned up, playing with a pick for 95% of the demo. The distortion for most of the demo does not allow one to hear the true sound of the bass. Near the end, he used his fingers and some low notes without the tone turning up That bass was amazing that way. All the talk about the crappy bridge went out the window when I heard that rich bass sound. It's the Cadillac of basses for a reason and it is really beautiful and different looking.
