- Ride down track at 25 MPH on this unique 1947 Fairmont Speeder with us.
Mrs. CCRX and our daughter Corrie go along for a really fun family time
riding speeders on the OIl Creek and Titusville Railroad.
Matt Kinard is our driver today and a very good friend. Here is a link
to his You Tube channel, please check it out. Matt besides running
speeders and a 7.5 inch gauge train also volunteers his time at
the Age of Steam Roundhouse where he is an excellent tour guide
and where we first me him.

I watch a lot of RUclips videos on speeders. They remind me of my youth when I was in grade school. The Southern Pacific line ran right behind my school and every so often when we were at recess a speeder would come along the track. My friends and I loved trains so we will always run to the fence to watch. When I was that young I didn't know they were called speeders so we called them putt putt cars. I used to make a wish on the evening star that someday I would own a putt putt car. At this point in my life I no longer wish to own a putt putt car but I love watching videos of them. Thank you all for the enjoyment of watching you all roll down the tracks!

Wahoo! Loved the speeder run! Spied some old telegraph poles along the way. Tracks have seen better days. That huge tree, alongside the tracks there hopefully didn't damage anything when it fell!

Dave, glad you had fun on the speeder. The wife and I did a speeder run on the Niles Canyon Railroad a few years ago and it was a lot of fun. We also shared the speeder ride with the owners yellow labrador. Dogs and speeders must go together! Thank you for sharing the video.

Dave; why do I get the feeling that you were looking at track geometry, if ties needed replaced, loose spikes, mudded track and ballast!? That looked awesome!
Now you know I was Joanie, I couldn't help myself. :-) They
need to take some super elevation out of the curves and replace
a lot of ties. But track alignment and the rail was in pretty decent shape. Thank you so much for riding speeders with us tonight

Memories. My days look a bit different, you know load the ties load the picks load the track jacks the lining bars the spikes the bolts the nuts washers the spike mulls the shovels lunch box water and anything else on the pull cart that was connected to the motor car and the foreman and assistant foreman on the motor car the trackman road on the pull cart and we ran our section “section gang” either repairing reported problems and known issues or finding a few along the way! Hard work but I really enjoyed being outside and earning a days pay! But 9 years of being in train service and secretly playing engineer for thousands of miles was great too! I’m about to claim my first RR retirement check! That’s good too! Thank you for the video Dave! Go MOPAC!
So glad you all got to ride and not have to swap out.. you been riding the rails most of your life, but I bet you anything that was the best and most fun rail travel you've ever experienced.. 🤣 such a fun time. So glad you had great weather for it.. good stuff Dave, Matt is awesome..

When I was young the steel warehouse I worked at had a 2TM car mover with a Jeep Hurricane engine. On the nightshift we'd go get a six pack and take it exploring in the woods in back of the plant. Whole different world 45 years ago lol

My father was a supervisor at Montreal locomotive shops...I have vivid memories of the shops with both steam and diesels being worked on as a kid.

I worked for Greenlee that purchased Fairmont Tool Division of Fairmont Railway Motors in late 80s. Spent some time in Fairmont, Mn. Tool division made hydraulic torque wrenches, handheld tampers, dewatering pumps that could suck up stones as well as water, etc.
That's awesome to hear Jim. A long long time ago we had some
tools made by Fairmont, but they are history now or I would have

Most enjoyable indeed. My middle son, Matt, and I had a ride on a Fairmont speeder which could carry six people. This was a gang speeder for a section gang. Sadly, my friend who owned this wonderful machine died last year. Growing up in Vienna/Great Meadows NJ the L&HR was a stone throw from our house. The section gang there was still using s speeder until 1960 when they received a hy-railer. When not working I would hang around the Great Meadows station and visit with the freight agent. Beautiful memories. This is one great video.😎🚂🚃🚃🚃✝

I have a friend who owns a speeder. I went on three trips with him. Two in the US and one in Canada. All with the speeder group. Very nice guys!

Good morning, Dave. What a great video, and that Fairmont is music to my ears. My women and I we stayed in the wasbash red caboose just last month at the caboose motel there. We rode their train too. Get a chance and go to the derake Oil Museum, which is a cool museum. I remember my first motor car ride it was on the M&Pa RR in 1991 in Muddy Creek forks. My late dad and I rode a lot of miles on a motor car. I have ( 2) A5 gang cars. They both need to be put back in service. OK, dave. Thank you again for your video.

Watching this makes me want to go again on a speeder run. I haven’t been on or had mine out for years. We had nine miles of track nearby and our own little club, sadly the powers that be ended our contract 4 years early and tore up the tracks. I have run rail in New Hampshire, Maine, New Brunswick and Quebec. Thanks for posting.

Dave I have been riding speeders since 2001. Mostly North Carolina and Florida. Lot's of fun and some beautiful views of the country side.
