Hi, AJ Hinrichs, many thanks for this truly great video. I love the idle sound of the EMD 16V710 engine, I'm guessing, unless I'm wrong. Cheers and be well.

Wonder if the FRA is watching your video? I thought any kind of personal electronic devices, including video recordings were a violation of FRA rules for Railroad employees while on duty?

I don't think it's a wise idea to show the public the steps necessary to start an engine. They have no need to know this stuff. I won in arbitration, but it doesn't matter that their own rules allow it. Cell phone cameras are a big no-no.
What a boring job that would be. no wonder people jump out of Railroading jobs. Especially conductors who have to do all the dirty work. Horrendously dirty/filthy work environment. Ignore the negative comments, AJ. You did a great job and she’s a great locomotive
"Wake up Katy, time to run!"
Beautiful paint scheme on that locomotive
Love how it still has a control stand rather than a dashboard set up like the GEs
GEVO’s still have control stand. Your older Dash 9’s and 8’s have the desk mounted controls.

@jam00723 depends which company, at CN our Gevos use control stand while I believe the CPKC ones use desktop controls.
Fantastic launch of the UP Katy, thanks for showing.
Looks like she could use a little love but still starts up well and is out there putting in the work. I've got this unit in N Scale.
Dang, sheer power. My bucket list includes engineering one of these.

This engine was at my yard in Mira Loma, California in 2022. Crazy how far the katy goes.
Nice video!
Nothing sounds like pure EMD 710 Engine!!! I got to get this locomotive in HO Scale!!!!!
Great job. Greetings from Germany, Andreas

Echoing others, you can tell UP puts this unit to work. The wear and tear on the unit tells a story of its own. Wonder how many miles are on the unit?
Very typical wear and tear for a class 1 locomotive. They are run hard and put away wet
All of them

Drive it, ring the bell, blast that horn!
Sweet.
When you have a consist do you need to startup each engine individually or does the computer do this automatically.
Good Question!! seen a Trio of GE's start up in sequence once, after the first one was started, but haven't seen anything similar since.
Depends on what state of shutdown each unit is in.
If the all units are equipped with auto start/stop they will all turn on, when the reverser is thrown either forwards or backwards. Same with the DP's

Radio torn out, cab signals non-functional... at least it has PTC.
