The European Escort was so unbelievably compromised in North American form and lasted through 1990 when it was replaced with a restyled Mazda 323 with a revised CVH engine. They are now very charming classics. They’re horrid cars and I adore them 😂

Enjoyed the vid and it brought back memories of my Dad's 1.3L 5dr Escort he had in 1983, when it was approx 12mnths old (HBP 23X). It was champagne gold metallic, had optional front headrest pads and rear ww. He loved it, as did I and it served brilliantly as our family car for years. Definitely agree on it being a classic notwithstanding the fact it's not an XR/RS.

It became more practical with a flexible loadspace, more flexible seating and a more useful interior, and it was needed too. Hatchbacks were fast becoming the order of the day and they were what the public wanted and expected, and Ford wanted a slice of the hatchback pie too so responded with the Escort Mk3 hatchback.

My stepfather got a new 1.3L (my suggestion) in early 1983, DRW986Y, following 3 Vauxhall Chevettes. Decent car when it was good. Numerous warranty claims though. It just had the gremlins ironed out by the time he got his next car in 1986 !!!

It's cool the way you wound down the window and put the aerial up while you were driving! It probably should be done when stationary tho. The car looks in good condition and certainly sounds smooth and clean when you're driving. It looked like you were driving quite fast! It didn't seem to have any difficulty or 'protest' which I find quite surprising as it has the 4 speed gearbox! It would probably be a bit higher in fuel consumption on long drives on reasonably fast roads.

Grandad had a silver 84 1.3L 5 speed. Rusted out after 10 years, possibly the damp garage he kept it in. Garage said the rust was too bad to fix, but I saw it on the road couple of years later. They did it up and sold it without him knowing and tricked him into buying a new car. Best thing about the car was the ride.

    • @bonk352
      @bonk352 Год назад

Certainly by the looks of it, that rogue garage was being dishonest by telling him that the rust was too bad to fix and then actually having the audacity to go behind his back and refurbish his car.
      Absolutely not on!!!!!!

My wife had one of these and hated it, I thought it was okay but nothing special at the time. I don't think they can be classed in the same league as Mk1/2's as they just weren't that good they were just fairly cheap. Thanks for the video though.

@@rampantram1 fair enough. However when I had a company car?
Say from 1995-2006. I had four Fiesta Ghia. Probs made in Germany granted.
Two Focus Zetec. Engines Bridgend Wales I think but closed now.
A Ford Mondeo probably made in Dagenham also closed now.
Then it was replaced by Peugeot and new company policy.
However it was nothing but trouble.
      So
      Speak as you find.
      Have a lovely day.

Asda did fab curries at the Deli. Hardly bland IMO.

Heatwave in UK at 28c for a couple of days. 🙄😂
Here? A heatwave lasts late June to beginning of September. At about 38-47c
