I just stick them in a nut and tighten it down. I have been doing maintenance for 20 years and never had a problem with it this way. I just pull on both wires when I'm done to make sure the threads in the wire nut bite into the copper. I don't twist the wires before or after the wire nut and I don't use electrical tape on the nut. If I have to work on something, I don't want to open up the box and find something that takes me 10 minutes to get loose, just so I can stick a meter on the wire. I twisted wires like this when I first started doing electrical wire but I've actually had bad connections on wires that had 3 full twists inside the wire nut and it is a real PIA to properly reconnect the wires when they're twisted and deformed.
I agree. Splicing as an art is lost. These days, the instructions say to have the wires side by side, and just twist. Not even regarding the quick connectors, which are just push in. I make my students slice many variations of wires and spices. Just like we learn 20 knots. We just really only use one or two practically in the field.
Just started my apprentice last week i wish i knew this earlier
How old are you? Random I wanna do apprenticeship too

@@matt5752 Sounds like a fun class. Are you a teacher at a VoTech college?

This is literally how you braid hair
Please don't give the RUclips electricians any crazy ideas. They will be telling everyone that braiding the wires is in the new code book.
No it's literally not how you braid.
What gauge is that? Because for the 14 gauge it’s pretty hard doing it by hand
What
@@kevinr8258 this might be 16 or 18, but I also do it with 12 and 10 awg. Up to 6 with 12 and 6 with 10s.
That shit looks sweet. 🔥 thanks
Thanks
Does this work for four wire pigtails too?
Yeah, you just take the fourth wire and bend it over to the side with one wire.
Sorry for the delay. Yes it does. I do the v shape, 2 by 2. For 3 wires it's a 2 by 1 v shape. For 5 it's 3 by 2 v shape. Etc.
@@matt5752good to know brotha…. DIYer here trying to learn as many tricks from as many trades as possible and become as self sufficient as possible 💪
