Each star a reminder of the dreams he once held dear,
Now shattered like glass in the chaos of war's fierce veneer.
In the quiet moments, when the gunfire fades away,
He grapples with the questions that haunt him night and day.
Who is he fighting for? What is he fighting for?
In the fog of war, the answers seem to blur.
His comrades, fallen like leaves upon the ground,
Their voices silenced, their stories left unsound.
He carries their memories like a weight upon his soul,
A burden that no one can ever truly console.
And as he marches on, through the darkness of the night,
He wonders if he'll ever see the morning light.
For he is but a pawn in a game he cannot win,
A lost soul in a world consumed by sin.
So let us mourn for the unknown soldier, lost and alone,
In the vast expanse of war's relentless drone.
For in his sacrifice, we find a sorrow deep and true,
A reminder of the cost of the freedoms that we pursue.

My grandfather William was born in 1887. WW1 from Isonzo to Piave, Alpini Fiamme Verdi. He runned on many battlefields through first wave bayonet assaults. He was a survivor. Rip. MV
