Absolutely horrific. And these men were expected to just act like they didn't see or do this when they got home. PTSD is no joke.
PTSD was just a theory back then in America.😔
I spoke with a VA research scientist once who informed me that PTSD actually changes the shape of the brain. I have a private little theory that considers how most poor people suffer from some degree of mental shock, unless they've lived rather trauma-free lives.
that's REAL ptsd. Now all these college kids get "diagnosed" by quack doctors after reading mean tweets. It's insane.
All the while being divorced by their wives; or being cheated on by their girlfriends.
@@dsmhiggins67 I avoided all that while I was in by being an incel.
Andrew Garfield in an interview said that Doss was a skinny guy so Andrew wanted to try and carry ppl on his back and transfer them in real time. He carried one guy and said thats the all he could do. Man doss just got strength from the heavens that day. He saved so many people
Real life adrenaline, and the possibility that Doss was probably fit and strong from working probably helped. I've met small skinny men who are a lot stronger than they look.
@@DinoPimp Doss might have been also given himself something from his Med Kit, as I recall he was injured and still kept rescuing people. Man’s got Will of Iron and unshakable Faith to push through and rescue all of those people.
Adrenaline
this was WW2. you can bet money that he had some kind of amphetamine pill or injection in his medpack for this exact kind of situation.
@@PainForaGame Adrenaline but that wont lost long! you forget that Almighty God gave him the strength to fight the good fight. Even the enemy said there guns kept jamming and there bullets kept missing him! Faith is a gift from the LORD and so is the love for others. Jesus Christ is Saviour and God
This is the first movie I've seen where a flame trooper gets to be in multiple scenes and used multiple times without immediately getting blown up in a fiery death
fun fact. Flamethrower tanks don´t explode by bullets. its a myth. same is when you shoot a car tank
In reality, this problem was seen in the design phase (the possibility of a shot to the fuel tank resulting in an explosion or puncture), and so the fuel tank is armored. At worst he'd get is a leak, which is still bad. If the leaked fuel reaches a flame source, he's screwed. And lastly, the range of flamethrowers is greatly reduced in media. Imagine a high-pressure water hose, except the liquid you are spraying is on fire. *THATS* what a real flamethrower is like.
I heard that the life expectancy for a flame trooper on the battlefield was something like 4 minutes so it's no wonder
@@ststes Yes, the Japanese had bounties for killing flamethrower troops.
@@AngelOfFire2906 They do actually. The propability is non zero with an impact that reaches high enough temp but tracer rounds blow them up straight away. (Not in explosive way)
I am Japanese
I watch this movie and all I can do was to cry…
All the war is nothing good for anybody .
I was so thankful that MrDoss not only save American soldiers he also save Japanese
I hope one they there will be no war and have peace
He is a true hero
I am German and I think we can all appreciate the bravery of a man who went to war unarmed, with the only intention of saving people.
If we had to come up with a single war hero everyone on Earth could proudly look up to, Desmond Doss would surely get my vote.
yes, it's all about you crying....narcissist.
@@VinnyCarwash-js8op Imagine having such a vulnerable ego, that somebody crying is triggering your defense mechanism.
@@VinnyCarwash-js8op Someone needs to relax. lol
There will always be malicious men (people), as long as that exists there will be murder and horror
Maybe not to as big of a scale, but everpresent
And there's malice on both sides, every organised conflict, even to this day, especially in this day
In any conflict I weep for the civilians, no matter whos they are. And condemn the aristocracies using their lives as coins in their games
"please dont leave me! I have kids!" The emotional toll that would have on any human being.
I agree, imagine your kids waiting for you while your in a war, then your already dead...
everyone has kids. its nothing special. and a lot of idiots have kids too. Nothing that would phase me

I can help myself from crying watching this movie. What a great guy, defying bullets and shells just to save his comrades. I think he deserved more than one Conggresional Medal of Honor. Rest In Peace

I am in awe of Desmond Doss' faith. Hearing shots "fired in anger" is one thing. Performing medical duties while unarmed is beyond human words.
I love this movie! It's beautiful to see how Smitty realized the true character of Desmond and started to protect him. It was heartbreaking when he got shot and told Desmond he was scared and then died. Also a beautiful gesture later where Desmond lowers him down with him at the end when he goes down himself, even though he was being pursued by the Japanese.
2:50 this man didn’t need a one liner to be cool
Im a VietNam disabled vet, and ANY person that thinks PTSD is a joke, I ask them to watch this movie, Band of Brothers, The Pacific and any documentary about WWII life in the trenches. POW - MIA Never forget
Thank you for your service

@@paytoncortez4877 Relax Paton, It’s a joke, FFS.
Man, our grandpas were some brave SOBs. The history and theory of warfare peaks my interest, but the reality of it breaks my heart.
Doss was without doubt one of the bravest people alive.
That reaction was so real, the actor did an incredible job to show the fear and shock of the situation
Desmond Doss certainly proved himself time and time again. Though he would not bare arms against another human. Desmond went above and beyond all expectations in saving the lives of countless Marines that day. A true unsung hero who deserved the MOA. 💪🏻🙏🏻✨
I think they were Army, but it's semantics. Apples to oranges, he still saved countless soldiers, both American and some Japanese.
1:50 - 1:56 the crew must have spent a lot of time perfecting this segment.
Damn yeah! I hate this guy screaming worst ending like that!! 😡🤬💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥☠️☠️
i thought he was a zombie at first on the movie but turns out he had the role to become the most hate person in this one
@@platano_mamahuevo i mean, he got so traumatised by the war as he thought it was a Japanese soldier grabbing him and he screams which exposed their location
"You were tyin' a bowline boy and I'm buildin' a bra."- Desmond Doss, the greatest American War Hero.
The ironic part is that a double bowline is much harder than a regular bowline but also much better when saving someone

Bless those who died and bless their families and what they went through
Incredible movie, and from the (very few) soldiers alive to recount that mess, they said it was very accurate. salute
especially the part where the guy picks up a dead torso and uses it as a shield
@@Fattony6666 which in reality would be useless against bullets...see other scenes where one shot hits 2 people.
@@richardsimpson3792 not impossible. the torso is the thickest part of a man. sometimes it goes through sometimes it does not. depends on how many bones it hits along the way. sometimes it goes clean through and you never feel it. sometimes it gets stuck. just depends how lucky you are.
@sethlinindoll9325 yeah pretty sure the bullet can bounce throughout the bones/body too

he did indeed get him home
1:33 that guys reaction tho.
Yea
Desmond was a swell guy :) Couldn’t ask for a better Medic overseas
He will never leave a brother crying for help.🇺🇸✝️
1:33 I love his reaction
Yes indeed, has also a bit of comedy-style.
Not gonna lie I nearly peed myself when the one guy screamed. Its absolutely horrific and nails what its like to be out in a war. Just nothing but your worst nightmares
That first flamethrower scene: "I finally get to use this!"
Would not want to be the flamethrower guy or be standing near him. Had to be a prime target and made a big fireball when hit. If you somehow survived you'd be haunted forever by what you saw.
@@cvn6555 or even if you survive, the horror of seeing men cook alive will traumatized even the toughest dudes.
@@Smartyvoy Yeah. Knowing that you pulled the lever to light them up has to be insanely awful.
Desmond was really cool.
2:45 "Ok so hear me out. The soilder is then pinned down. He has no choice but to pick up the top half of his budies torso, use it as a human sheild with one hand while pumping 50 rounds out of his 20 round magazine with the other hand. Since he's such a hero, he nails 4 Japanese soilders with no scope headshots" - Writers
You gotta have at least one bs Hollywood scene in any movie
Inspirational man truly
I like how the Japan guy screams and the American guy screams at the same time lol
I doubt anyone ever picked up a dead body and used it as a riot shield, but that scene was pretty good lol
Most of the bullets were 7.62 tho so it would have penetrated that body easily irl tho
Can’t imagine enlisting on the USMC during the Pacific Campaign. Being shot at, bullets whizzing through your ears, witnessing the guy that you have been socializing with the entire time die, and the smell, couldnt imagine it.
Doss was Army.😁

"I'm going to get you home"
I'm sure you say that to everyone, doc.
I knew one objector. He was a good guy. He just wasn't going to kill people.
2:51 thats someone who has either done only left arm day or has been choking chickens at least 5 times a day since he was in 5th grade.
The flamethrower scene reminds me of that other Starcraft scene.
Using a human torso as a shield is wild. What’s even wilder is even crazier shit than that happened. Can’t imagine.
I am pretty sure when Doss actually passed away, he would have God Himself greet him at the Heaven's Gates.
Jesus Christ was probably most proud of Doss
When I seen the look on his face I for some reason started Picturing him saying "I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye"
Legendary Medic 😢
Excellent movie
Dude used a literal meatshield
1:46 Michael Bay CAMEO 🤣🤣 makes me laugh every time.
cinematography is 👌
That battlefield must smell wonderful
Gore is hella good in this movie
Hella realistic
Gore in this case, serves a purpose, that is to show the horror of the second world War, specifically combat against the Japanese in the pacific theater. Usually not a fan of gore for the sake of gore but this shows how horrible it must had been to see combat for these men.
Doss was a man of courage
I got tears. 😢😢😢
My favorite war movie ever
Stay packed together for ease of communication.
Smitty is a beast!
Principals they all had a job to do and they did their job and they paid a high price for freedom and they were never the same when they came home
I love how that one American Machine Gunner smiles half the time he kills those Japanese soldiers.
This has to be top 5 close quarters intense and graphic battle scenes ever made .
By all accounts it was truly accurate. The brutality of war witnessed by survivors is got to be the most horrific sights soldiers have seen. Bodies burned, ripped to shreds, men and even women have suffered deep emotionals scars that are hard to forget and many if not impossible. The horror, smell and seeing someone's life erased in an instant would be impossible to forget.
Freedom is not free and our brave service members should never be forgotten. God bless them !!
Mel Gibson is a genius producer, director and actor.🇺🇸

such a great movie
And i saw it by accident here in Zephyrhills Florida, wasnt doing nothing on a Sunday and stopped by the theater to see What they had going on and went for an action movie.... Since that day i watch that movie every now and then because i just love the story line, the best movie that has to do with war... 😉
It's almost like a horror movie the way this is shot, which is appropriate. I mean what's scarier than a situation like this in real life
You do NOT want to be down range of a BAR.
i forgot how violent this movie was
How? It’s literally a film about one of the violent conflicts in Human History, its bound to be gruesome.. The people in WW2 did not give each other chocolates and flowers, they annihilated the enemy with bombs
@@Chuked by violent i think they meant gore wise.

The is no way anyone can shoot a BAR one handed, besides that pretty cool.
When you're shooting blanks it's probably possible
@@nigeldean3726 No way that thing is heavy as fuck, also only holds 20 round magazines

Only Andrew! Excelent
Doss also fought on Guam where the 77th supported the Marine Corps and earned the nickname the 77th Marine Division
This is as close to the the first days of the siege of vraks.
they would all have had bayonets fixed, and never grouped together like that... Hollywood
they would of been moving forward by squads with suppressing fire, same when retreating.
You mean using a dead guy's torso as a shield while firing bar with one hand isn't realistic? Who knew..

That jump scare part is so goofy

Hey guys, you might try spreading out a bit, give the zeroed in Japanese mortars and artillery slightly more difficult targets. Try moving in squads, one moves, the other squads cover.
Does anyone know.. which character is the one who spits the Rosary/Cross out of his mouth? (at 3:22) ???
idk why, but i like that they kept that {subtlety} in the film.
He's my favorite, though Doss is the hero
it definitely echoes the part where Smitty says,
"if the enemy comes at you, what are you gonna do? Hit him with your Bible?"
Gibson also does a good job at displaying {through the various forms of blood, intestines, and decaying bodies} what the American Soldiers are up against, before they even SEE their enemies
I dunno - but he dies from two shot wounds seconds later.
@@chatterycasque9594 That character actually doesn’t die. He gets hit, yeah, but Doss manages to get him down and save his life.
