I know this is a year ago, but I'm going to look at a 1978 XS 750 tomorrow. So if I get it, I'll be following for the information you share, or should I just buy a new bike. Me I'm 45 and mechanically inclined.
It's great to hear you got the bike! The 77 is a bit nicer looking than the Special. The upside is you will now everything about the bike and how to fix it in no time.
I've got the exact same bike I've had it since new but been stored since 1982. Life got in the way and now I've got it safetied and got it back on the road last fall. Anyway I'm in the process of doing the same mods and have a question. I'm going to remove the airbox and wondering how and what your using to vent the crankcase?
Hi Ray - I saw your post in the FB group. I put a K&N crankcase filter on the outlet. It still lets oil vapor through, so it's not the best solution. I am thinking you will need to rebuild the calipers and master cylinders replace all fluids and grease all the bearings. Also check all grounds and fuse box connections for 0 ohms resistance. Have fun and can;t wait to hear it start up :)
I have K&N Filters; for the carbs the only mod is going up to a 145 Main jet. When working on these carbs it is a must to remove and clean the fuel nozzle aka emulsion tube. You also need to set the float height to the factory spec.
@@pushrodfury6644 You are happy with the exhaust system? no re-jetting etc? I have a 1980 XS850 midnight special that has stock black exhaust. I purchased this system, but will have to Ceracoat it black.
@@oaktownghost4219 The exhaust is great quality, have been riding with it for over 2000 miles and a bit over a year. It is a bit loud though. You will have to rejet, but it is easy. If stock air filter just go up from 130 to 142.5, if adding pods go up to 145 mains. You don' t need to change pilot or needle position
@@pushrodfury6644 Np. I bought the set .Even with proper jetting the header pipes turned dark. Good set of pipes for the money but I think the metal is a bit to thin.
@@hjoken All stainless headers will change to a golden color, these are as thick as any good quality header. This is the same color on my Triumph, and BMW stock stainless pipes
Awesome! Working on the same bike, curious about your jetting for pods and 3into1. Thanks!
Hi Rob, 145 Mains, stock pilots. Outer cylinders 2.25 turns out, center is 1.5 turns out. I hope this helps!

@@dustenpersons3874 Take your time getting each system going. Let me know if you hit any roadblocks or successes along the way!

according to Ebay that same filter fits the 1980 XS850 Yamaha. Happy with the performance?
Which filter oil or air? I am running the K&N pods; I would only recommend K&N or UNI air filters everything else is garbage.
Will this fit an XS850?
I’m not sure, we’re you able to check the Delkevic website? eBay should have it too
How’d u get the headers to sit on bolts, mine seem to short and dont stick out enough for me to screw the bolts back on
I used the stock header studs, no issues. Did you remove the old gaskets? they can seem like part of the head of they are smooshed in there.
did you use the stock carb setup? i see the ads say you can use the stock tune.

How do you get to the oil filter housing? It looks like the 1 pipe is in the way.
It is totally clear, super easy access!

Does it block the case for the oil filter?
Also can you still use the center stand?
No, it is super easy to get the oil filter out - Sorry for the late reply
