Woohoo! I follow Ronald Finger and was surprised when he mentioned your channel as one of his favorites. I always find it neat when people I follow follow channels I like.
There is something so satisfying about watching someone do a decent, professional and thorough job on something like this. Hacking away all the rust and rot, welding in new metal, and sealing it all in with a decent paint job. Lovely!
Man I like your style. This is car entertainment in meditative form. I'm *so* fed up with the channels that just speed-talk part numbers from the posh aftermarket catalogues. It doesn't teach me anything useful to know what performance part (that I can't afford) is best for a check-book style build (that I can't afford) that just throws everything away that isn't in mint condition, and replace it with billet this and carbon fiber that. But your stop motion of rust repairs show me *exactly* how to go about it. To us plebs in the wet zones (with salt on the roads in the winter) it is always the corrosion curse that prohibits us from getting our dream cars. One sweet day (or rather, number of years) I'm going to get a Mazda RX-7 FD that everyone thinks too far gone, and I'm going to save it from the crusher. Your work both teaches me and keep the dream alive. Thank you :)
Soup Classic Motoring Hello. I am very impressed with your videos! You are doing a tremendous job! All episodes were shot so that it is simply impossible to distract from watching. Your job of repairing rusted parts of a car’s body from pieces is really cool! This proves that nothing is impossible if a person has a desire and passion. These videos made me return to thoughts of restoring my very rusty car with renewed enthusiasm. Thank you for that! By the way, is it possible to somehow contact you for a consultation? I am also an ordinary guy who wants to restore a car with his own hands. I just would like to get at least general advice about my project, I could send photos of this car. Everyone who saw this car told me that this is impossible, I would like to know your opinion, if possible. Thank you

Just found your blog about 10 days ago, have watched all of you videos now. I guess I'm going to just have to wait like everyone else now for the next one.....bugger! Your video skills are unquestionably brilliant, but you have no right to be such a skillfull, resourceful and hard working car restorer too. No stopping you now with that new welder. I am going to have to do something to help that new workshop dream become a reality. You are such a nice guy and a pleasure to watch.
Love how you do your videos. You do a great job showing the nitty gritty of builds like this. No frills, straightforward descriptions. I found your channel from Ronnie Finger.
Awesome! I own a w116 300sd (1979) and I'm currently working on reinstalling the rear flanges back onto the hubs. I have to configure a tool to press the flanges thru the hub openings and get enough of the flange threads to protrude thru the other side so that I can then position the inner bearing then tighten everything else by tightening the grooved nut/castle nut onto the flange threads. The grooved nut/castle nut requires a matching special socket to tighten. I have to tighten the threaded castle nut/grooved nut to the correct tolerances (preload on bearings), without over tightening, or I will have to start all over. Starting all over would require the crush washer/ring to be replaced with a new one. The crush washer cannot be used again if you over tighten the nut (exceeded the correct preload on the bearings) . Dial gauge is absolutely necessary. Your videos allow me to concentrate and have patience. Thanks!
I had to really concentrate just to stick with you there... sounds a torture! Fair play for sticking with it the right way. Good luck with the rest, and thanks :)
Someone recommended this channel to me a couple of days ago. some of the things that really appeal to me are the fact that it's not some fancy, shiny workshop full of expensive tools, the fact that the mistakes (I find I do most car jobs at least twice because I've messes something up!), the great, relaxed, casual tone of the narration and the mesmerising stop-motion which is incredibly hypnotic as well as being an excellent way of demonstrating and documenting the process! I love it, keep up the great work!
just cant get enough of your videos, It's like therapy to watch. Feels like an escape from my own project but it's also inspiring me so much to get the work done. thank you !

Thanks George, was having separation anxiety from the w123 and my second home, welding is looking 100% better with the r-tech rig, loving your work still 👍
The new welder is an absolute gem and the best things since sliced bread. Nearly through my first ever bottle of gas too... exciting lol. Thanks a mill Mathew
Thanks for the videos mate, they superbly soothing, but also informational. I am also restoring a W123, and these close-up shots are amazing. Best channel on RUclips - change my mind.

Another fantastic video , George, This is really enthusiastic and you make me (us, see these numerous comments down there..) learn so much. Thanks again
I've been 'restoring' (ie keeping them going with minimal funds ) old vehicles more or less continuously since swapping the barrel and piston on an NSU Quickly in 1966 at the age of twelve, and I still learned several things from watching this video :D I love your style and your witty banter which makes me feel like we are just having a little chat... One thing I might suggest though is to get an impact gun - I bit the bullet and bought a top spec DeWalt one a few years ago and it is without question my most treasured tool (no good for stop-motion animation though I guess). Two things that I could not have done at all without it - removing the front crank pulley on a Rover V8, and pressing out the front ball joints on a Diso TD5. In both cases I spent many hours trying ALL other options (including 4ft scaffold tubes) before finding that 'Old Rattler' did it in seconds! Keep up the good work. Roger

Hands up all those who moved back from the screen when George was using the hammer on the ball joint and it swung towards the camera! 😁 Well done, another fantastic video 👍🏻
Superb content as ever. Beautifully shot and the combination of your narration, soundtrack and stop motion makes it very relaxing to watch. Brilliant work.
Your videos on rust have been interesting for me. I've been German car guy (E39, E39, E36) for a while, but recently got an Alfa 156 sportwagon. Beautiful, beautiful car, but I have found 3 rust holes under the windscreen cowl. The rest of the body and chassis is great, as I'm in Australia. I did buy a bunch of stuff, along with a Kemppi 200 evo mig welder. Just got to get a few more tools, some sheet metal and gas. Cheers from the land of no salted roads.
Aaaaa the ball joints :))) That was a really stress relieving job for me.....went totally savage with a sledge hammer and barely got them out. Oh boy !!! Once again congrats for the epic video quality !
Ok, so I’ve now been back to episode 1 and watched ALL of them over the last 5 days. Great job with the cars but huge kudos for the quality of the videos! I’ve watched so many now I’m speaking with an Irish accent😂
Xcellent video pointing out the importance of Specialty Tools I recently got a bigger roll cab to store my specialty tools ..my first special tool was a shift linkage seal install/removal tool for the GM turbo hydromatic transmissions most commonly found in the C3 Corvettes among many other GM models...I eventually learned that , if I polished the shaft smooth and round , and the seal was replaced properly , then it had a reduced chance of failing.. SUMMARY : the right tool AND knowledge/awareness of the equipment that is being serviced is key to a satisfactory result 😏 ..jus say'n

Men, I love to see your work. You are doing an amazing job with this car.
I hope to see some videos off Lotus Esprit soon.
Keep going!
The Lotus is coming back in a month or two, thanks and stay tuned :)

It's amazing how the application of force can be so right or so wrong! Thanks a mill
Ok, so I’ve now been back to episode 1 and watched ALL of them over the last 5 days. Great job with the cars but huge kudos for the quality of the videos! I’ve watched so many now I’m speaking with an Irish accent😂

Watching you do this is reminding me of the two 123s I used to have. I miss them. Mine were much rustier than yours when I first bought them.

Xcellent video pointing out the importance of Specialty Tools
I recently got a bigger roll cab to store my specialty tools ..my first special tool was a shift linkage seal install/removal tool for the GM turbo hydromatic transmissions most commonly found in the C3 Corvettes among many other GM models...I eventually learned that , if I polished the shaft smooth and round , and the seal was replaced properly , then it had a reduced chance of failing..
SUMMARY : the right tool AND knowledge/awareness of the equipment that is being serviced is key to a satisfactory result 😏 ..jus say'n
