    Good gold coin, or best gold coin?

    Just getting into this. As a Canadian, the Maples just make the most sense for me - and they sure are beautiful! Bought 3 x 1oz 2022 last weekend and will be buying 4 more in short order. Fractionals are attractive for a number of reasons (1/4oz would be my pick) but I can't get past the extra premium, so I'll be sticking with OZ.

      Fellow Canadian here also wanting to get some metals for back up. Did you by your 1oz golds from the mint??? I was looking on their website and they are asking 4300.00 for a 1oz coin???? I'm soo confused, that seems like theft....

    I Started binge watching some of your old videos and they’re just as impressive as your latest ones. It’s an interesting perspective to see how much has change a year ago. With the pandemic and what not. Just a thought. It would be pretty cool to do a now and then video on how gold prices have changed and where they’re going. I think right around the time you posted this video I was buying my first gold coin. I wish I would have found your videos sooner.

    The shop owner shouted out loud (most likely on purpose ) that gold was going down in price the following day because he wanted customers to unload their gold to him so he would make a killing. Think opposite of what shop owners say. If they say gold price is going up they want people to buy their gold. If they say gold is going down they want customers to unload their gold.
    Remember they are there to make money, not there to make money for you.

      Yeah agreed. We have a good coin shop close to us - they are as professional as can be. I’ll buy from (good convenient place that is 1st class) them but won’t sell to them. They want to double end. Good for buying but not selling. Who really wants to sell assets anyway? Buy and hold.

    Just happened along on to your video. Must say that I am a Silver stacker, and for a couple of reasons. First, the affordable price (for most of us middle class workers), and second for the possibilities of larger returns (than Gold). Don’ t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Gold. As a matter of fact, I too agree with your view that the Canadian Maple is far superior (looks-wise) to the Buffalo and Eagle. Also love that it’s 24kt pure Gold, without the dirty Copper content. Eagles sometimes get red spots on them, from the Copper...yuk. Now that I found your channel, I’m subbing in order to watch more Gold content. I really want to start adding some Gold to my stack, which I’m building for my Son (and his future). Prices are a bit too high right now, but hopefully they will return to a more reasonable buying price. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy watching yours, and add some cheap Silver (when it’s on sale). Thanks for the Gold show...love it.

      Victor Frankenstein thanks for watching! Silver is fun, and any discipline I have now to buy and save gold I built by buying silver. I think we have similar stacking styles. My ultimate goal for a stack is a few ounces each of the AGE, newer maples (with radial lines), buffalos, and Krugerrands. The eagles and maples are the best for getting fractional sizes. Ive seen buffalos as fractional but they are wayyy overpriced. My local coin guy has said the same about buffalos being the mist desirable. I actually like the eagles they way they are now, I’m eager to see how the new ones will look but Im sure it will be a lot different.

      Yeah, I've always had a bit of an aversion to 22kt. Krugerrands are even worse!

    • @goodsummitguy
      @goodsummitguy 4 года назад

      people falsely think 22k means the gold in American eagle has less gold. American eagle (1.0909 oz ) is heavier than Buffalo (1oz). Buffalo is 1oz gold + 0 copper +0 silver. while American Eagle is 1oz Gold + extra silver +extra copper. let's go extreme. if someone gives a 2oz coin with 1oz gold and 1 oz sliver mix, you can say it is only 50% purity and 12K gold coin. but will this 12K coin value 2-ounce coin less than 1 ounce 9999 gold coin? . the answer is no. Purity only works when both coins have THE SAME WEIGHT and therefore, the gold is less than others if not pure.

      goodsummitguy Thank you for cleaning that up for me 👍

    • @goodsummitguy
      @goodsummitguy 4 года назад +2

      The original idea of purity is to prevent cheating. Like, I pay the same amount of USD but get less gold due to the purity issues. It doesn't exist here. US gov knows for circulating purpose, coin can't be too soft, so they add silver and copper to make coin harder. Meanwhile, they don't want people to think it contains less gold due to purity, therefore, they make the eagle coin heavier so that the coin still have 1-ounce gold .

    You've mentioned modern security features in passing (i.e., hoping the 2021 Eagle re-design follows the Canadian Maple and Britannia). But how much do you care about these features? Do you think it could affect the future liquidity of your favored pre-2021 Gold Eagles, which lack such features? Maybe a better question: how much do securities features matter in gold when there is no numismatic value involved and presumably the gold itself can be easily tested?
    Alas, Wikipedia doesn't even mention the change of adding radial lines in 2015, and laser security mark in 2014 (?). Radial lines especially make it a much more attractive coin!

      @2is1gold  3 года назад

      I don’t think the pre-2021 design change will be negatively impacted in a sale to a dealer, but you can see price differences on the Maples with or without the privy mark and again with or without the radial lines. I agree that they look much nicer with the lines. Cheers!

    Watching your video today I had to get out my 1 ounce gold Maple and look at it again... I keep trying to appreciate it's beauty, but then I look at the Queen without a crown and, well, it just seems wrong... Doesn't a Monarch need to be depicted wearing a crown?.... and it's the same with all the recent years Canadian coins... My gold Maple is 2017 and it was amoungst my very first purchase of precious metals... I would trade it in a heartbeat for something more beautiful... Alas... I think I am stuck with it... I dream of one day owning a gold buffalo though... one day.... Especially when buying gold, I want my coins to be beautiful to look at. To date, my most beautiful 1 ounce gold is the 2020 Perth Mint rectangle double dragon that has amazing detail and almost a high relief look to it. Second is my 1 ounce 2019 Perth Mint rectangle dragon coin, and on the Obverse, the Queen does wear a beautiful crown... I also love the Queen's beast series that I have all of in gold and silver... the final one will be released in September... I only started to buy the smaller fractionals in gold this year and picked up ten of 1/10th ounce mini-bars Canadian... so cute! I also love the Mexican Pesos coins in gold and have some of those in earrings and rings.

      Dakiniwoman the Isle of Man 1oz Gold Angel is the best-looking gold coin I’ve ever seen. Elizabeth has a crown and all. 🙂 APMEX has them in stock right now, but I’m still buying Buffalos, Eagles and Maples instead. They have more value to me because of their liquidity in the States.

    do dealers pay you a premium back when selling coins like the maple leaf, AGE, buffalo or do they give you almost spot? Just curious, if almost spot, what difference does it make which one you get they are all 1oz gold. Is it a popularity contest on which coin gets most premium? Thank you! I want the maple leaf, it has much less premium than the AGE and buffalo. I want to stack and eventually sell

    • @2is1gold
      @2is1gold  4 года назад

      The local coin shops I’m familiar with will give a small premium for Eagles, spot for Buffalos and 95 - 99% of spot for Maples. It’s a bit of a popularity contest - Eagles are just incredibly liquid in the U.S..

    Don't you worry about talking about GOLD I love the gold channels and your right they are a little harder to find. Is the american eagle the most sold gold coin because it is the most popular or is it simply demographics. The population of the USA is quite large compared to my little country. Same with Britain or Australia. Things that make you go HMMMM. Speaking of which you should try out a gold Australian mint coin your choice. They are almost creamy a little larger thou than my maple.

    • @2is1gold
      @2is1gold  4 года назад

      Maple leaf metals “popular” is probably misleading. More have been sold than any other bullion coin and country population definitely is a factor.

    My opinion only. The every day US Bullion Eagle is a disgrace. (Both styles obverse sides are childish.) On the other hand, the 2008 version (minted as St Gaudens himself envisioned) in the Ultra High Relief edition is an absolute *MASTERPIECE!* In no way am I factoring in "liquidity." All too often people flock as do Sheep. For these prices it is very understandable why they do too.

      I like the Buffalo too - I have more of them any any other coin. Beauty is so subjective, though. A lot of people would say the Gold Philharmonic is the best-looking coin (and I wouldn't agree). I haven't been buying Krugs. They've been around since 1967, so there are more of them out than any other coin, but I find popularity and demand vary by region. If the South African Mint released a short run of 24K Krugs, I'd be first in line. Thanks for watching!
