One of my favorite books. Much better in print than the audio book. Be sure to follow up and read Turning Pro by Steven Pressfield.
I've been meaning to check that out. Thanks for the reminder.
how about on kindle?
@@recklessgameplay9988 this is one of the few books I've read more than once. I gave away my paperback and bought the Kindle version. They were both the same as far as I can tell.
Thank you so much for the review! I went ahead and bought this book after being on the fence about it.
That's great! Thanks for letting me know and all the best as you read it. I hope you get a lot out of the book like I did.
Subbed. Thank you for such calm review.
It is my pleasure! And, thank you for subscribing. I'm glad to have you along. 🙏🏼
Amazing review, clear, concise & didn't take 20 minutes of my life. Great jacket btw :)
Thanks! Glad you liked the review-it's a great little book. Also, thanks for the props on my threads. 👊🏼
Thanks mike-appreciate the review and the heads up on the caveat concern. Will likely read.
It’s a great little book and totally worth your time, especially if you want to create something.
Thank you for this quick introduction to this book 🙏
It’s a pleasure! One of my very first videos …
Thank you Mike! Wonderful video! :)
Thanks, Axel. That's one of my old ones! Glad you liked it. 👍🏼
Good review. Tks
👍🏼
Brilliant review💯💯
Thank you!
Art *is* about finding a block and revealing it, to break through.
Oh yes, some art is about revealing skill, manipulating /evoking emotions, easing the flow of energies, exposing idea to the sun...
So many arts.
because of lookdown i can't buy the book and i have to watch review online which kinda sucks. This will really help me with my project this will be a huge percentage of my end of year grade. So thank you so munch, this is the best review book i have ever watch
I'm glad you found my vid helpful and hope you do well on your project!
@@MikeGastin I got a grade which was more than wanted. The project was literature and this is subject I suck the most but I still score higher than most my class mates. The score I was aiming for was just around a B- but I actually got A on the subject I struggle the most and this was my mid term exam too, so I can thank you enough on how munch this video has helped me.
@@ansonnguyen1988 Hey! That's fantastic. Glad to hear it and congratulations, Anson. 👍🏼
Your caveat... I suppose the Muse is within us. Afterall, we are and contain our own World inside ourselves.
Thanks for the summary👍🏻
Well said! Thank you.
Nice!
👊
I like this review
Thanks, I’m glad to hear it. 😃
It's true everything you need in life is in you. You making decisions in your life and that determine where you are in life.
you mention you would put a link to Bagger Vance in the description.
Fixed. Added Wiki link.
I'm glad you called out the gnosticism. So many Christians are into self-help, and new age borrows a lot of terminology from Christianity, so it's easy for Christians to think this is just another facet of Christianity. And it's a very different thing to rely on Christ for your salvation, as opposed to yourself. It has massively different implications on how you live your life. Thanks for the review!
Thanks, Chris! I got some grief for the gnostic comment, but stand by it. Glad you agree. And, yes, gnosticism has permeated the American church for sure, and not just "liberal" churches. It seems to be everywhere. A great book on the topic is "Gnostic America" by Peter Burfeind. Author does a good job showing how Gnosticism has influenced so much of our culture in the US. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Your new fan.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
thanks
My pleasure. 👊🏼
If you believe in yourself first then you can accept outward inspirations that enhances your creativity.

Bagger Vance not Stephen Presfields first book, his first book made into a movie probably.
According to Wikipedia, as well as a general Google search, The Legend of Bagger Vance is listed as Pressfield’s first book. Do you have better intel?
@@MikeGastin I emailed Stephen, I have listend to The Art of War several times and read the book and I didn't think his first book was Bagger Vance, plus amazon has other books as published first. I'll updated this when I hear back from Stephen.
Awesome! Let me know if you hear back from him. I bet it’s his first published book, but not the first one he wrote-if I had to guess. Maybe some earlier work got published after he vacate successful. Maybe I’m totally wrong, too. 😉 Thanks, Jason.
@@MikeGastin I haven't heard back. I went to amazon and looked inside The legend of Bagger Vance book copyright 1995 and the war of art 2002. books are copywriter a few different times but I think I viewed things correctly.
@@JasonPlouff Well, if I had to bet, I'd say Bagger was the first book he got published, but NOT the first book he wrote. Thanks for trying to clear it up, Jason. Regardless, Pressfield is awesome.
War is He'll, Baby
😂
'New Age' ? I think not, that is Plato, Plotinus, etc.,
Okay, but where exactly do you think New Age folks get their ideas from? A lot of New Age spirituality traces its roots to Gnosticism, which pulls from platonic and neoplatonic thought. Would you agree?
@@MikeGastin I would say from Judeo-Christian thought, aspects of Platonic cosmology borrowed by them and repurposed. I don't use the term Neo Platonic much myself, sort of a modern concept, I would just describe it as late indigenous European thought, but certainly pre Christian. I would not call Plato, Plotinus, Marcus Aurelius, etc., even remotely New Age, rather the opposite.
I should have been more clear. I am also not calling Plato and crew new age. I was referring to them when I said platonic and Neoplatonic. I really don’t have a dog in this fight. I made that vid a few years ago. I’d have to rewatch to get at specifics, which I am not going to do. That said, I do recall some of Pressfield’s take to be new age. He infuses his language in the second half of the book with unorthodox mysticism and talks about our creative muses and so on. I am fine if you want to label things otherwise, but his ideas and language in the second half are clearly aligned with New Age mysticism, Gnosticism, and even a dash of Jung (who was also a Gnostic and was fascinated by Hermeticism). Yes, these things overlap with Christianity. And yes, a lot of these things draw from Platonic forms, etc. But, you’re free to fashion a view that’s better suited for you, if that’s what you’re after. I wasn’t trying to damn the book or the author, but was saying that this aspect of Pressfield’s work disappointed me and even detracted from the very good argument he shared.
@@MikeGastin clear is always good lad. My read on Pressfield is he has become a student of what I would call indigenous European spiritual cosmology via his interest in Hellenic people and culture. I could be wrong, but, listening to him . In my Cosmos, I group Judeo-Christian spirituality, Gnosticism, any version of New Age-ism, etc., all from the same source. Which gets me back to Plato and indigenous original pre Christian European spiritual cosmology. With this I mean Yamnaya, Corded Ware folk, to Bell Beaker, there is a train of thought, or an awareness of the Cosmos, with is a continuum. I have never spoken with Pressfield, but I suspect this is of what he speaks. I mean the ancients, be them Hellenic, Celtic, etc., they knew these concepts of which he speaks. Not New Age. The opposite.
The War Of Art by Steven Pressfield - Whatever you needs it's in within you, you just have to find it.
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne - whatever you are looking for it's right there in front of you, you just have to look for it and capture it.
You are a badass by Jen Sincero - Whatever you need it won't come to you if sit and watch televisions. Get up kick your ass out of the box. You want this right! Than make it want you back!
What is the problem with gnosticism? Unless I don't understand why. It may just be that a deeper reason for existing has not made itself known yet. Therefore is rendered inadmissible.
But it happens, and when you least expect it, ("the spiritual")
maybe when someone close dies, or you find yourself sick close to death. People claim to have looked within themselves for the answers of life in moments of peril, and those people know from within that the true wisdom is not intellectual but better, from an infinite source.
Sorry, I forgot to mention I really liked your condensed review. Very professional and respectful. I may not even read the book 😸 Thanks man.
Thanks, James! My main issue with gnosticism is that it suggests we can find salvation through knowlege, and usually "self knowlege" attained through various experiences. My understanding of the universe and mankind is that salvation is found through the Truth and that this Truth is embodied in the person of Christ, the true limitless font of love, life, and truth. That's why I made the comment I did and why I do not follow a more gnostic approach to life. I do not think we can save our selves.
Agreed. What difference does it make if he’s into Gnosticism, Catholicism, Pragmatism, Krishna, or Voodoo??
Whatever it is has made him highly successful, and extremely famous. I’m just glad that he’s magnanimous enough to share it with us!
By following his example, perhaps we can become immensely successful as well
@@Tonabillity Never said it makes a difference, did I? I said the book is excellent and I gave Pressfield every compliment and much respect. I just said that for me, Gnostic/New Age spirituality doesn't do it. And ... then I went on to say, "you should read this book anyway." I guess the real question is, what difference does it make that I mentioned the Gnostic aspect of this book? Why should I not share what I found questionable, especially when I was gracious about it? I do think that by following Pressfield's example, you can become successful and I wish you the best.
@@MikeGastin You shared what you found questionable. I shared that the thing you found questionable, I found powerful. But you’re absolutely correct. We BOTH should be allowed to share what rings true to us.
All good, nice crisp review

No thanks. We dont need a 2 minute summary of a book that's only 190 pages.
But somehow you needed to click the video link and then leave a comment. 🤡
not two minutes = downvote
