    I've never truely noticed until now, but I love how you handle the fishes you catch, and how you release them gentlly into the water, too many youtube videos of people especially the younger "hot shots" youtubers who run around yelling and doing their "challenges" who handle the fish like toys and chuck them back in like their rocks etc. You are a true nature sportman love it.

      @@Boswd Hey there!
      Thanks so much!! I can’t say I haven’t had to toss a fish a little bit of a distance once in a while (usually it’s due to low water issues). Most of the time it’s the smaller bluegills, panfish, or small bass that can handle it. The larger fish always get released on the edge.
      Those fish aren’t doing us a favor by letting us catch them so they don’t deserve to be tossed like hot potato’s back to their home..
      I also don’t use fish to catch other fish. They weren’t born to be tricked into to being caught and used by us as bait to catch another larger fish..they have a hard enough of a life avoiding being lunch for all those other predators in their environment, they don’t need us using them as well..
      I’ll get off my soapbox now😂.
      The younger generation use challenges and shock value to get views. I like to try to entertain, and maybe teach something or show something new to someone they may enjoy.
      So I thank you so much for watching!!! 😊

      Haha😄, as do I but this one seems to do it a little bit more, mostly in the “cranking” part of the retrieve. You can really feel it.. you definitely have to pull then crank, like you’re really in a Tuna😄.. it’s not extreme but different. The Shakespeares, The Century’s, they do it as well but not as noticeable.. maybe I’m just paying more attention to the gear growl when I’m using them🤣. To this point however, I like the reel.. from what I’ve seen, the only thing I have to be worried about is the button under the rubber boot breaking.. it’s the only plastic part on the reel.

      🤠Hello there!!
      I was a little hopped up on coffee and just trying to find a good way to make a video on a fishing reel be a little more interesting than just a “review”..
      I have sporadic tendencies😁.
      That reel seems to work pretty well but due to its fast gear ratio, it tends to make small fish seem larger, which in some peoples eye, might be or seem like a good thing😃. It definitely gives you more of a fight.
      I’m preparing to do a video on the Delta as well. A slightly lower priced Zebco ($65 new) just to see how much of a difference there is between the two and if spending that extra $35 is worth it..
      Thanks so much for watching and despite my over caffeinated ramblings, I hope you got something from the video that actually helped you!!
      Again, thanks!!

    That Zebco Bullet casts as far as a bait cast reel. I experienced the same thing reeling-in fish. It feels like you are working a winch compared to the vintage spin casters. It must have something to do with the gear ratio and big handle. It's great to see you're having fun again! Andy

      The sale at BPS is the only way I would’ve bought it.. I’m not spending that kinda money on a spin caster no matter how good it is, simply because I can put $100 to better use on something else.. I’ve got a ton of old Spincasters that’ll do the job. Maybe not as elegantly but still get the job done.
      I even thought about going to get the bigger version (30) but I honestly would only be doing for content purposes because I truly don’t NEED it and again, that’s $63 I can use elsewhere.

  • @gregsreelrevival
    @gregsreelrevival 9 месяцев назад +1

    Hey Willie, love your videos. I''m also a Vintage Reel guy so your content is fun for me to watch. You mentioned it is more difficult to reel in the fish with that reel compared to say the old Johnsons. I was watching a video the other day that discussed this same thing. The higher the gear ratio (some are even 10:1 nowadays) the harder it is to reel in. If you're comparing that reel with the older Johnsons the gear ratio is about twice as high for the Zebco. The Century gear ratios were right around 3:1, that one is almost 6:1. Hope that helps.

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  9 месяцев назад

      Hey there🤠,
      Yes after doing the homework and realizing how much quicker the Zebco’s retrieve was it all made sense. I really should’ve waited to make that statement after I did the homework😂.
      The physics of a “spin cast reel” compared to say a bait caster or spinning reel are very different and when you add quicker gear ratios to a spin cast reel, it’s going to be harder to retrieve and make a small fish seem larger.
      Personally, I’ll stick with my vintage equipment. I’d rather pay $100 for something old and mint in the box than spend that same $100 on something new that’s just trying to reinvent the wheel..
      Since you’re a vintage equipment guy yourself, I believe you understand where I’m coming from😄.
      Thanks so much for watching and commenting!! I appreciate it very much!!

      Baitcasters and I have that “Love/Hate Relationship” so many people talk about. I love bait casters but I hate untangling, it takes time away from fishing.
      So far, this Bullet is impressive in a couple of places.. casting distance and being very smooth.. only thing I’ve noticed is that it seems to make smaller fish feel larger. You definitely have to pull with the rod, then retrieve a lot, even with smaller fish.
      I’m looking very forward to using this reel more and am actually thinking about getting a larger version.. I bought the 20 however, if I can go get the 30 for the same price, it might happen. Nothing wrong with just having it around.. for testing purposes of course 😉😄

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  3 месяца назад

      @@fashopimpin 🤠Hey there!
      Actually it’s the fast gear ratio that’s causing it.. Think about it like this, if you riding a bicycle, let’s say it’s a 10 speed bike, and you start from a dead stop in 10th gear, it’s really hard to pedal. Because 10th gear is for going fast, then you get to a hill and it gets hard to pedal again. That hill is like catching a fish, making it seem bigger because of being in 10th gear..but if you shift down to 5th gear, the hill seems smaller because it’s easier to pedal..
      Hopefully that made sense..😂

    • @fashopimpin
      @fashopimpin 3 месяца назад +1

      @@TheGraytOutdoors I get it, it doesn’t have the haul power. The fast gear ratio is just to keep up with the speed of the fish coming at you to keep the line tight but power is weaker than the low gear ratio. That makes sense.

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  10 месяцев назад +1

      @@Oncorhynchusfishing Well, I would say it really depends on a few things.. Like, running water(rapids) that will make a 2lb trout feel like a 10lb trout or calm slow flowing water.
      Also, you have to remember that the 30 is a physically larger reel.. I don’t have huge hands so I prefer the 20 over the 30 just because of that alone.
      I’ve caught some pretty large fish on 4,6, and 8lb line so the 6 and 8lb lines are fine with me. The max drag is 10lb on the 20 so if you think that you’re going exceed that range, then the 30 is 12lb…
      Honestly, it’s very hard to tell someone what they need for their style of fishing. Because on many occasions I’ve used something that wasn’t designed to do what I was using it for😂.
      So all I can do is give you my “personal opinion” on what I’d use if I were trying to do what you’re doing and it’s just my opinion only!
      I think the 20 is fine but if you can tolerate the “size” of the 30 go with that..
      There’s only 80yds of 6lb mono on the 20 but I’ve heard of people using braided line on the 20, if that’s true, you could definitely get some added strength by doing that.. 🤔Maybe I should do a video on using braided line on the Bullet? 😳.
      So for me personally, I’d use the 20.. but before you make a decision, get a few more opinions on the subject, just in case.
      I’ve still got more testing to do on that reel..

      There may be $100 worth of technology in that reel but my vintage will do the same thing and some of them I only paid a couple dollars for but they’re worth way more to me.. I found them, I fixed them, and I caught fish with them.. That to me at this stage of the game is what it’s about, guess it’s called getting old😂.
      Thanks for watching!! 🤠

    horrible reel. about every other cast the line wraps around the inside of the top of the reel. Have to take off the cover and untangle it.

      Hey there!
      You know, it’s funny.. I hear from people that have great luck with that reel and those who’ve had terrible luck with it..
      so far ( and I say that cautiously) I’ve had no actual issues with the the Bullet.. I think the gear ratio is a bit much but I intend to keep on using it until I have some kind of major problem..
      I use mostly vintage equipment so it may be a while before it goes back out. The next little experiment will be braided line..
      thanks for watching!!

      @@TheGraytOutdoorsI run 20lb power pro braid on a mono backer and my Bullet MG Johnny morris carbonlite 7" MH setup has no issues at all pulling in big bass. With just a 10inch culprit on a 4 hook i can bomb casts like 40 yards. Due to the nature of how the line has a quick bend inside the reel I feel like braid works better with the drag system as well because mono with high enough drag will start to stretch and flatten out a little causing weak points in the line.

      @@joshpashia637 Hey there,
      I have every intention of putting some 20lb braid on that reel and doing a little top water and crank bait fishing with it.
      I have a 7’ med/heavy rod sitting there waiting..
      At this point, I haven’t had any issues with the reel but I’ve heard some horror stories.. So I guess I’d have to say, there’s a lot more testing in its future..

      @@joshpashia637 I was wondering how well the reel performs with NON mono line. Have you tried Flouro? Thanks for your sharing your experience and setup.

      @@descantinginsalubrious I didn't try fluro something I can say though is on a spinner bait or crank bait it will shake your hands plum off running braid you feel every little vibration. I tested the setup for a while never had any issues with it it's my mom's setup now for catfishing and she loves it. My main 2 rigs are a Shimano Stradic on a carbonlite 7ft rod MH and a lews Hypermag on the same rod setup. I prefer MH for the fishing that I can toss a worm forever on these setups running braid as well. The Stradic is a really good reel I think I prefer my lews over it though it's just super smooth and takes no effort to start cranking Stradic takes a bit off the hit but it's smooth as well

    I personally love this reel and i use it for skipping lures under docks without a backlash...
    I have to say that i absolutely love your left handed hillbilly farmer persona....
    sometimes, a little Red Neck is refreshing too....

      Hey there!
      I’m so use to my relics that trying out something new is almost scary.. That reel is extremely smooth and casts a mile. The rod I set it up with was incredibly comfortable and with them together I made easy one handed casts.. I’m actually looking quite forward to giving it a work out this season just to see how it holds up.
      Will it be like it’s early relatives and be around 50 years later or is it going to be a “use it till it dies” and put it in a drawer kinda thing? We’ll see I guess.
      Thank you for the compliment!! I think 🤔.. 😁My Brother use to say I was The “Red Neck” Marx Brother🥸I’m just me doing what I do.. and enjoying it.. and very humbled and happy that others like yourself are as well..
