I think when we adopt and attitude of gratitude, it changes how we view life and the circumstances we are in. A year ago, I received some serious health news. It was devastating but we have chosen to be thankful for what we have...family, good medical care, 40+ years of marriage...so much to be grateful for. And sewing and this RUclips world has kept me positive and hopeful. Thank-you for your part in this.
I am so grateful for the community and what I am learning again. I had just started to sew again. Then I had an aneurysm rupture in my brain and I lost so much. But thanks to all of your sewing videos I feel that I am learning again in a nonjudgmental way. I also think God that I survived and found the sewing community.
Talking about friends, something I wrote to Jen just a couple of weeks ago,. I retired at the end of 2019 and very shortly the pandemic hit. By retiring, I lost tht circle of friends. It was then I came to You Tube and so many of you have become my new circle of friends. This has been my year of prayer. Back in January, all of a sudden I couldn't walk any more and ended up in the hospital for five weeks and had back surgery. It's very scary when you think you may never walk again. I went through physical therapy and now I walk with a walker. It's OK though because I thank God every day that I have come back this far. He has me on my feet and I am moving. I am extremely thankful for my Grandson. He lives with me and takes care of me. He is such a wonderful young man. Ok, that's enough from me. ❤🙏❤
Oh my. That is a lot to go through. I’m so happy that you leaned on the Lord. 🙏🏻 I pray that you continue to improve! How blessed you are to have your grandson to help you. ❤❤❤. Give him a hug for me. 🥰
Thank you Laurid. I appreciate that. I only found my faith a few years ago, so it’s still hard to know how to share. But God nudges us, doesn’t he? Blessings to you and your family. ❤❤❤
The raglan sleeve style was first developed by the tailor of FitzRoy James Henry Somerset, also known as the first Baron Raglan. Lord Raglan lost his right arm in the Crimean War and his tailor designed the diagonal armhole seam to afford him greater movement and ease of dressing. Copied and pasted. Interesting I thought.
You can cut bias using a small amount of fabric, using the continuous bias method. There are good tutorials on RUclips. Also I have started to make bias out of some of my scraps that I don’t know what to do with, then I use them when my pattern Tetris doesn’t work; I also like that I can use a contrasting fabric to bring out a colour that I particularly like in a print. Annie x
I believe that the purpose of cutting that strip on the bias is to allow it to stretch as you sew it so since you made it in a knit, you could have just cut that strip on the cross grain. Absolutely beautiful dress! Love your channel so much! ❤
Our son in law cooks the turkey. We hosted for years and I am more than happy that they are hosting. Yes, prayer is super important. I love your bubbly personality and enjoy your channel.
You are a joy to visit with Stepahanie and yes, I love hearing all your stories and see all your beautiful creations. Have a blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving next week. I am grateful for you ❤
Such a great question. I too am Grateful for the RUclips Community. You have helped me go through the pandemic, helped me to grow in my own knowledge of sewing, and papercrafts, exercise, and Faith. Can't ask for more. Really enjoy the Friday sews group, but especially Yours because 1. Apple shape 2. Similar age. 3. 2 children 4. Love of Sewing 5. Love of Camping. We have so much in common. You are like a long distance Sister, and Friend. Enjo😘y Your Holiday,
I’m grateful for the sewing community. As a new sewer I feel like I’ve learned so much from all the you tubers who so willingly pass on their knowledge and experience. Very exciting for me is that I am currently visiting in California, with my son and his wife and my wonderful grandson, from the UK. I will be enjoying my very first Thanksgiving with them and their US relations. I feel so grateful for this time with my family. I know in this modern age we can speak frequently and see each other on FaceTime etc. but it’s not the same as getting a hug in person. I am missing my sewing Machine but it will be there for me when I go home and I can ‘geek’ out with you tubers in the meantime. Love your videos, love Friday Sews ❤
Oh my gosh! Welcome to California Alison! What part of the state are you visiting. And yes, a hug in person is just the best!! We have a new great grand baby in the family that we will meeting at Thanksgiving. Just can’t wait!! Enjoy your visit! ❤❤❤
@@FarrellFocus I’m in Riverside and having a lovely time. Already visited Disney and the Aquarium of The Pacific at Long Beach. Best of all though is just hanging out with my family and playing with my grandson. He was three on Saturday and is soooooo cute 🥰
Amen and Amen. God is so good he does want to from all of his children. I will pray for you and your family. There is never a need to apologize for sharing what is on your heart because we all care...By the way you picked another great dress, the print is wonderful just love it. God Bless your Thanksgiving.See you next week.
Fab catch up this week, I chuckled so much “She is our leader” about Jen, so funny, she is the leader, the fairy godmother of sewing hehe 😊 have a great weekend Stephanie ☺️
What a beautiful dress Stephanie, I'm glad you made it work for you. I hope you can make that coat/jacket work without the hood. Do you have a similar pattern where you can just copy and adjust for the shawl collar? Oh man am I grateful to Our Leader Jen and to YOU. You kept me sane during Covid and I have loved sharing messages with you about sewing and our trailers. You are never negative and you never moan and I love that about your channel. Thank YOU so much and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Man I don't know how you do two big family 'do's' in one month 😂. Happy weekend xx
Hi Carole, thank you! I love our conversations too!! And I love your travels!! Lol. It is a whole lot of family gathering all at once. Lots of logistics. And we only get the “whole” gang at Thanksgiving. So our Christmas is much smaller. I just love this time of year!! Hope all is well with your and your family. Hugs ❤❤❤
Stephanie, I am thankful I found your channel you are such a joy to visit with. I haven't any family so the holidays are challenging for me. Stephine, I love you and am thankful for the sewing community. Pray is always a part of my life it is what sustains me.

Hi Jan, I hope your recovery is fast!! I love that you are from London, I cannot resist a British accent, when I buy books on tape I only want to hear that. Lol. Take care of you. ❤❤❤
The dress looks great! I agree, no one I know in real life sews and previous work colleagues just didn't understand why I would spend my time sewing things.
We are the sewing “geek” squad. I too have learned so much from the channels I watch. I have purchased many patterns after seeing it made up by someone. Dress is great. Not picky just need it the way you need it.
Loved your Friday sews 🥰 that mcalls dress looks lovely on you. I too am grateful to the online sewing community, I don't really speak to many people but I have learned so much from you all, and I am truly grateful for all the effort you all put into your vlogs. Thankyou ❤️
In order: Raglan Sleeve-I like them when they fit but with my curviness, it's sometimes hard to fit well. Bias: Anything not on grain is bias. Usually patterns put things on the true bias (45 degree angle). That means that it will curve (with steam and stretch) more easily. If the piece runs straight or straightish, any bias or even cross grain will work. I often piece a straight grain trim piece (like across the chest) to a smaller true bias piece for around the neck. Sometimes putting the trim on the cross grain rather than the bias will allow you to "cinch" in the edge (which done right will hold it snug without a safety pin) but it is really tricky to do well. One other note: if it is an edge that will take wear or abrasion, the bias wears better and the straighter grain fold will fray sooner. I have that pattern and your choice of print is fabulous. Giving me ideas.
That is some pretty great information. It explains why it worked. I’m so glad to know that!! I feel like this whole comment needs to go in my notebook! Funny about that fabric…I had kind of lost my attraction to it and it’s been sitting. And now that it’s a dress…it’s lovely. Lol. Thanks again! Hugs ❤❤❤

Your dress is beautiful. I haven't sewn in years, but I am frustrated with not finding what I want in the stores or online, and I just told my husband last week I wanted to get a sewing machine and get back into it.
Hi Stephanie! Thank you for tagging me! I will film my #sewgrateful video soon! I love your dress! I love your sewing chats too! Soooo THANKFUL for your friendship! You are such a blessing to me!🤗💗
I think you can figure it out for the shawl collar. I made the love notions terra tunic that has a hood and made it a shawl collar. I played with it a bit and made it work.
Pretty dress!! I think Sam has a video on her channel - Frugalisama on how to make bias binding from a square of fabric. Might be worth a look. Happy Thanksgiving Stephanie x
I had previously researched this and found that if you are making an item out of knit, there is no need for cutting a band on the bias...the bias cut is used on woven fabrics so that it will be able to gently stretch around curves. On knit garments you should reduce the length of the band some to keep the necklines from stretching out too much and keep the garment close to your skin. Hope this helps you to save fabric on your next dress, if you make it in a knit fabric!
Such a nice chat! I’m grateful for #fridaysews which gave me the push I needed to start my own little RUclips channel. The people I’ve met here are so supportive, so loving and so inspiring. Happy Thanksgiving to you! 🇨🇦💞
Yes! The fabric is gorgeous on you! You can cut close to being on bias ... just lay the pattern slantwise like I think you mentioned. I worked in Upholstery and cutting on the slant actually works if you're short on fabric. Some people cut not on bias to save fabric but doesn't give you an easy turn like some bias does. The dress is very cute on you! It's quiet this year for us at Thanksgiving because my mother-in-law passed but my daughter might stop over but doesn't eat because she is strict Vegan...we just love to be with family at holidays but when you're short on family members it's hard. Happy Thanksgiving!🦃🤗🙏 Yes I'm a big prayer warrior and I love praying for people because it WORKS!
I am thankful I found your channel!! I look forward to my Fridays with you. My project isn’t garments but I’m making memory pillows for my grandkids out of my late husbands shirts. Lots of memories. Happy Thanksgiving! Kathi
Stephanie, you can put some snaps on the part that gaps open. I am thankful to Jehovah for having good family and friends. I am currently working making Simplicity 9835. I am making a muslin. I had to increase the size of the pattern from a size 10 to a size 14. I watched the late Nancy Zeiman videos to learn how to do this. I have been trying it on as I go along. I like the fit. This pattern is from 1971.
I found that if you narrow the sleeve a little it helps with the shape, insert very thin elastic in the neckline to snug it up a little. To make bias I just take scraps and cut them on the bias and join them. I love this dress but it took me 3 makes to figure out how to get it not looking frumpy. The width around the arms make the bodice look so much fuller than it really is hope this helps
Always enjoy your videos and especially today I sat down watched your video and hemmed my daughters pants . I've been procrastinating waiting for some sewing mojo to hit and I have to say, that was the easiest fastest enjoyable hemming I ever did it was like being part of a virtual sewing circle lol. so thanks Stephanie for your video today I am very grateful for friday sews and all the sewing community on u tube.Have a great Thanksgiving Everyone
I love your new dress.. it looks beautiful on you.. Would you need a bias strip if using a stretch fabric??? I'm grateful that you are so good at what you do so I can learn to explore more options.. I love Hello Hello .. it makes me smile every time
Stephanie your dress looks lovely on you. Did you know you can use a knit instead of fabric hungry bias strip. Any jersey knit or even bathing suit fabric. If you have black or any color in your dress will do the trick. Make the strip shorter than the length you need to cover.
Beautiful dress fabulous fabric. I have read some reviews that said it does make up larger than the sizes stated. If your fabric is stretch perhaps you may not need to cut the binding on the bias. 🙏❤️💙💜
Doing a catch up on my #Fridaysews videos. On your gaping neckline, Whitney from Tomkat Stitchery places a small clear snap at the place that is best for you and it holds the neckline securely. Works great!
What a gorgeous dress. With respect to bias binding, I have seen videos of how to make self bias binding out of a rectangle of fabric. It’s magic and I would recommend you search for that. I would send a link but sorry I don’t know how but it’s easy to find
Sew the neckline closed, it makes it easier to wear. For the bias facing, I just piece it together, but attach the interfacing before cutting to stabilise.
If you go to the Frugalisma RUclips channel she tells you how to make continuous bias binding from a small square of fabric. It’s great I follow it when I want to make bias binding and you use very little fabric. Also Karina from Lifting Pins and Needles has instructions too.
As someone else has said, I had a sewing teacher who was good with quotes and this is one " a little bit of bias is better than no bias" BUT your pattern was for women fabric but your fabric was already stretch you probably didn't need bias to make it stretchy.
I tried to paste a link, but better to look up Lifting Pins and Needles, Continuous Bias Tape tutorial. She teaches how to make it.More set up time but long pieces
This world is wicked. Perversion is not being called sin. Killing unborn babies, LBTQ, etc. God will not stand for this. He will take his hand of protection off this country if we don’t repent. ✝️🇺🇸🙏. God bless America
Beautiful fabric and your usual craftsmanship in sewing is quite evident. However, as your friend I am going to be honest and say that to my eyes it looks like a dressing gown/bathrobe. I think it needs to be shorter. You speak the truth about the power of prayer and our world needs prayer now more than ever. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
I love the dress but you look too matronly in that length. Shorten that dress to below the knee. It will be even more flattering....I am SewGrateful that my precious mama taught me her love of sewing...of course most of her sewing was out of necessity. Our clothing and quilts were usually made from garments she upcycled and from feed sacks.
One of things I am so thankful for you and positivity. You have given me back my love of sewing 🧵 and I will forever be thankful for that. Happy Thanksgiving !🦃

Stephanie your dress looks lovely on you. Did you know you can use a knit instead of fabric hungry bias strip. Any jersey knit or even bathing suit fabric. If you have black or any color in your dress will do the trick. Make the strip shorter than the length you need to cover.
Great tip! Never heard it before. Thanks!
Beautiful dress fabulous fabric. I have read some reviews that said it does make up larger than the sizes stated. If your fabric is stretch perhaps you may not need to cut the binding on the bias. 🙏❤️💙💜
Adorable
Really?? I need that! Thank you so much! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I just watched. Oh my gosh! I would have never believed that could even be done!! This tip is going in my notebook!! Thank you!!
Frugalisama (Sam) has a trick on her channel to get loads of bias binding from a small square of fabric. It’s like a magic trick ❤️
As someone else has said, I had a sewing teacher who was good with quotes and this is one " a little bit of bias is better than no bias" BUT your pattern was for women fabric but your fabric was already stretch you probably didn't need bias to make it stretchy.
Can you show , how to put the elastic in if you make it again ? I have the same body shape haven’t made it because it’s wide, thank you in advance 😊
I tried to paste a link, but better to look up Lifting Pins and Needles, Continuous Bias Tape tutorial. She teaches how to make it.More set up time but long pieces
Raglan sleeves.
Bias on a print is ok too piece shorter pieces together. You’d have to look carefully to tell. IMO anyway.
I think if you used a knit you might not need to cut the bodice facing on the bias.
Is it not called a Ragland sleeve Stephanie?
Thank you! Yes, I just looked it up and you are right! I just didn’t know. 😬🙄🥰
Lol. Deb…you are right 🤣🤣🤣. I put it on this morning and NOPE. I’ll try cutting it off and see if that fixes it. 🥰🥰🥰
One of things I am so thankful for you and positivity. You have given me back my love of sewing 🧵 and I will forever be thankful for that. Happy Thanksgiving !🦃
