    Simeon, luxton and Willis should take lesson from this guy on respectfully answering questions and respecting the journalist and public. Refreshing.

      As all public servants in important positions should do. 5 minutes of interviewing 7 Houses Luxon and the end result is being left with more questions than answers.

    Didn’t vote for this government & definitely not a fan of them. However I agree with comments here. Credit where credit is due, good to have a decent interview from a minster for a change! Straight talking answers.
    Also fully support this building legislation change. Labour should have done this

    Another great interview. I'd not heard of Chris Penk and did not vote that way but I greatly respect how he answered questions. Good job to both of you here. More of this please (looking at the more senior Nats here)

    Let’s downsize the government workforce and increase the workload! Hmm what could go wrong?? If Codemark takes two years now who will take the liability if things go south???

    Typical of this government, with its 'lets rebuild the economy' with more imports, despite the country's balance of payments deficit still high, sitting at $28 billion, meaning the country is spending on imports then is earns in exports. That said, it seems Chris Penk staffers have briefed their boss well making a refreshing interview.

    As a Labour supporter, I’m happy to say that this guy delivered a good interview, answering questions directly. Shame that 1-eyed NACT supporters won’t admit when current govt ministers deliver terrible interviews as we’ve seen so far

    Building consent , resource consent has to be streamlined. Over priced & the consent conditions are horrific. Draconian inspections .........overall crap service from the councils, auckland transport, watercare.

    Can the government consider promoting a discount insurance premium to encourage higher quality homes such as solid concrete houses, that are resilient to weather, flood, and fire?

    we will have another round of leaky buildings regardless of what he says. There is leaky buildings in australia and he says thats comparable. They also have different rules in different states.

    I’ll give him full marks for at least knowing there a / the complete difference between nukes and energy/ propulsion…, if politician ive ever heard discerning any difference

    Already had bad concrete and bad steel in the construction industry, dodgy treated wood, dodgy building gangs using dodgy building methods.
    Opening Pandora’s box with this .

    The leaky building issue was a design issue which is why architects were held liable

      Not always.Some leaky homes were due to poor building practies,ie missing flashings,incorrect fixing of cladding. The other part of the leaky homes was the untreated framing which was allowed by the powers that be.

    Penk the evangelical goes straight to an Aussie comparison when in fact just two weeks ago it was pointed out that Canada had sorted out its leaky home problems quite simply.....with very strick legislation( what is called red tape in kiwland). his answers were essentially a word salad of cliche we have all heard before.

    So earthquakes?......I saw new builds in christchurch 10 years before the big one there. Those buildings aren't there anymore. Australia is a completely different kettle of fish. No comparison. Also they have some really dodgy cowboy builders there who take the money and run. Already some of those here.

    The materials used in NZ are already some of the worse on the planet and allowing builders to build these cheap cookie cutter homes with these products is ludicrous

    Just 1.45 minutes in and Jack is acting like a know all. Not letting the Minister answer the question and then smirking at his gotcha. No Jack seismic and sun levels are likely to impact different elements of the construction. Use your brains. What about Japan. What about Hawaii. You have one mouth and two ears for a reason Jack. Please use these faculties in their proportion.

    Is National trying to make New Zealand reliance on other countries, why don't New Zealand try and help New Zealand builders like buy nz products, other foreign companies has dangerous chemicals in them like china products and American products

    Good interview and answers. Need to know more about taking stuff out of the building consent authority’s hands. Uhm, and have who be responsible? Builders? Builders who can just shut down their company and restart it under a different name?
