What isn’t mentioned was that after the murder of Brooks, Bullfrog and several accomplices attacked a Station owner named Nugget Morton….. Morton was an immensely strong man and an former professional wrestler, and he managed to beat off his attackers. It was Morton who went to the Police, reported the attack and participated in what in earlier times would have been referred to as a punitive expedition.
Note that I do NOT condone or endorse it, but a punitive expedition is intended to deliver a message, not justice. “If you attack us, we will attack you in return… and you will not like the result”.
Brooks himself appears to have been harmless. To justify his murder would require establishing that he knew exactly what the agreed terms were of his use of Bullfrog’s wife as a prostitute. We only have Bullfrog’s word for it, and no evidence that there was any attempt to resolve the situation peacefully.
There are violent people in every race. I do not acquit Morton or Murray, only to understand. Keep in mind that winning does not make one evil, and losing does not make one an innocent victim. Perhaps the lesson is that in judging people on the basis of their tribe and skin-colour, Murray and Morton had the same attitude we see today amongst those blaming all evil on “whitey”.
    Food for thought.

@colsmith7257 and in saying that you need to take notice of what you said. This world is built on lies, so when someone comes along, a government mob, and promises a solution involving more govt, then remind yourself of what you just wrote. The smart black fellas know that the Voice is just another con. If you think you will be doing any good by voting Yes just to assuage your guilt then remind yourself of what you just wrote.

@colsmith7257I think you need to have another read of the explorer's diaries my friend. You can start with Project Gutenberg Australia and point out where the explorer's diaries speak about the enlightened savage. The NAA:A431, 1950/2768 Part1, Page 3 A Statement from the Aborigines Friends Association in 1928 give a good description of the Myall's in that area. National Archives of Australia. History is being re written by academics.

Any man who would sell his wife, would have to be the lowest type of human ever. It doesn’t matter why he did it, but the fact that he did it. If he hadn’t been so low, there probably wouldn’t have been a massacre. Greed can turn the best of people into the lowest and most detested people on earth.

Brother, if Bullfrog did prostitute his wife. If that is true, still doesn't justify the wholesale murder of all those people.
Also, there is an alternate version of the story.
Warlpiri, Japanunga, Bullfrog and his wife were approached by Brooks who asked Bullfrog if he could take his wife, Marungardi, to do Brooks' washing in exchange for food and tobacco. Marungardi performed her chores but, either returned to Japanunga's camp without the promised supplies or did not return, so at dawn the next day, Japanunga killed Brooks.

I've realised this after watching the movie "SWEET COUNTRY"
Murray did what he was signed up for, he took innocent lives of my people along the Lander and the Hanson river and around Coniston all because that part of the land was good for cattle grazing. I believe someone knew our cultural laws about people not returning to their homelands after a love one dies,. This is our tradition, so I'm guessing this is why Murray was up for the job not only because he was a Gallipoli Veteran who had PTDS but he was forced by someone. That's what I believe, somebody in the background knew our laws, someone knew that if you kill an aboriginal person or if that person dies of natural causes the families would move out of that particular location, leaving the their homes for good. Because there was water, natural springs settlers would bring in livestock and horses, they didn't want to share water with the locals so what they did was to force them out. And if you look at that area now, there's a lot of Cattle Stations and farms just east of these rivers, those lands even had water, the most precious resource for both human and animals, my grandmother survived that massacre it is why I'm writing this now, otherwise I wouldn't be here....

I find some of the comments on this video pretty horrific, to be honest.
William George Murray was an evil guy. To take the death of one man (Fred Brooks) and think that it's justified to kill a minimum of 70 people 17 Murray admitted to and potentially between 100-200. That’s an insane thought process to me. If you look into the story from all sides even the initial trial of the 2 Indigenous guys for the murder of Brooks the judge was disgusted by Murray’s actions.
There is no way to me that you can justify that level of reprisal killing. At every step in Murray’s life and career post-WW1, there are numerous instances of false imprisonment, murder and extortion of Aboriginal Australians. The bloke actually can’t help himself.
For those who are going to say well what about the spearing of cattle by aboriginals. It still is not justified how could it be? Also, there were major droughts and the settlers were using up all the water sources as pastoralists. So by that time, the temporary water sources had all dried up. The starving Aboriginals were forced to relocate near the cattle stations where the pastoralists were. To kill and eat cattle to survive.
Also, those who mentioned William Morton as also justified in his actions. He had a long history of sexual exploitation of Aboriginal women and violence against both his own white employees and Aboriginal people. Well before he helped Murray murder people in droves.
Yes, the sources for all of this stuff aren’t perfect but there is more than enough evidence to prove this was an unjustified massacre of the local Aboriginal people. If I’m talking out of my ass or getting any of the facts wrong please let me know. But I absolutely cannot see how this is okay and how Murray got to live to the ripe old age of 91 without being punished for his crimes against humanity.

This just straight up isn't true brother. Out of all the cultures in the world Aboriginal Australians are actually the least war-like culture.
In fact traditional Aboriginal warfare is an such a fascinating area of research because of this. Aboriginal people didn't really fight to conquer or assimilate.
They had battles purely to resolve tribal rivalries and to exchange people. Most battles ended after only a few warriors were injured. This was done to ensure the overall survival of the different groups.

Let’s face it Australia was always off to a bad start based on a race and class system , the ones that suffered the most were the Irish catholic convicts, they lost the lot and were the enslaved backbone of the wealthy. My family have several recorded in Tas, Nsw , a couple who are buried at Pt Arthur, never saw there birth country or family again.

Chloee W, lets face it they were just bad people right ? #/S Stole a loaf of bread to feed their kids or a pair of shoes etc. Irish Catholics built half of this country and a huge majority then went on to give the vote to the Indigenous Population.
Welcome to country, First nations memes etc , are all hogwash created to divide the every day people who just want to get along each and every day beside each other as human beings. Every Life Matters, Black White or Brindle.
People need to look at the actual FACTS instead of the monotonous news feeds telling them what to think.
This whole problem could be solved if people looked at facts instead of emotions.

My Irish Great-Grandfather moved to the colonies because they were regarded as places of opportunity where old class distinctions mattered less. He prospered in the stereotypical Irish pursuit of building and running hotels. Irishmen were involved in politics, in the police, in law in agriculture and in many respected and respectable roles.
The idea that they were universally oppressed out here is rubbish.
