When I was with ABC at their building on 6th Ave, how loved our shoe shine guy Anton, and Howard would let him run his shoeshine business out of his office. If you need a shoe shine, you called Howard and asked for Anton, ten minutes later Anton showed up. Anton bought a house on the money he made over the years working out of Howard’s office. He was not a racist in anyway I ever saw or heard.

For anybody to think that Cosell was racist, you're simply wrong ! He supported the actions of the 2 black Olympic athletes and loved Ali ! As is witnessed in this story, will we ever rid our country of people who continue to create a divisions between white and black people over such ridiculous reasons. I'm a white man, had a son, and when he was little he used to run around quite a bit. I used to call him a "little monkey" for that reason and that reason alone. My friends, both black and white, laughed about it. This was in the 1980's ! There is a small group of people in this country today who continue to look for reasons to cook up the subject of racism. We should all be sick of them by now ! We have much larger issues to deal with than where we were born, our race, our color, and our creed. It's shameful what was done to Cosell because he was already where we all wish we were with this issue !!

a good example would be Bill Clinton saying out of the blue, "I think it's time we all had a national dialogue on race". we the people who are black, white, Hispanic, and so forth, didn't find that particularly necessary. he wanted to raise a fuss so we'd not notice his taking cash from the Chinese, and the stains on Monica's dress. what a fraud this guy was.

Howard Cosell was a great sports caster. I distinctly remember the night he made the comment which was and I quote " Look at that Little Monkey Go" . In my opinion it was not a racial comment but more a testament to Alvin Garrett's speed. It's funny that no one mentions the fact that the following Monday Night game a player was running away from the defense and Dandy Don sarcastically said, hey look at the orangutan go. Howard then said "That will be enough of that Don". Howard Cosell was not a racist. I personally loved him and his approach to Sports Broadcasting.

Howard Cosell’s comment of “that little monkey” is tantamount to an endearing comment one would say with regard to a young child and their amusing physical ability, to consider anything otherwise would be ridiculous and an attempt to make “something out of nothing” in the process … Howard Cosell NEVER intended to humiliate Alvin Garrett but rather praise Garrett’s achievement at the time of the broadcast.

And believe it or not, Cosell did not wear a toupee or hair piece of any kind, although "Dandy" Don Meredith had his bald spot permanently covered with bright green AstroTurf. The video fails to mention that Howard would call his young Grandkids "little monkees" when they would run around the house. He used it to describe white players as well. A mistake. But, given his long history of being a champion of Black athletes and giving them a voice when others wouldn't, this should not have been the crisis that it turned out to be. After a long career, there were probably many people who didn't mind seeing Cosell knocked down a peg. Petty.

ABSOLUTELY...NOT.. The man the person the legend is an ICONIC TV broadcast PROFESSIONAL ENTERTAINER...if cosell was discriminating he would have distanced himself from black people completely like most discriminating people.. sports was his life..and sports are dominated by black athletes so why bite the black skin THAT feeds you... let's get real networks world

Nobody complained about the comment. Weak executives were the only ones who took offense.

No. Only you "know" it. Cosell was another example of a so-called "chosen" jew using blacks to get ahead and - in the process - antagonize whites. Then - after achieving notoriety - shows is self-absorbed "superiority complex" obnoxious, despicable, "truculent" side. Cosell was truly someone I - and many millions the world over - loved to hate again and again.

Howard was anything but racist. Muhammad Ali always appreciated his support when Ali refused to join the military. my personal dislike of him was because of his obvious (to me) anti Yankee sentiments. did enjoy his MNF work and his appearances with Ali are priceless.

I hated Howard but I was watching that night and knew exactly what he meant. It had nothing to do with race.
That was my first introduction to a reasonable person falling victim to woke BS.

Muhammad Ali THE GREATEST GAVE HIM A SUCCESSFUL CAREER AND POSITIVE NOTARY MENTION, IF IT WASN'T FOR MUHAMMAD ALI HOWARD WOULD HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT A DIME A DOZEN JOURNALIST AND REPORTER.
