    I prefer hammer fired for 3 reasons. The first is the different trigger pulls. The double action is great, but going into single action and having that light pull is amazing. I enjoy the experience of learning the triggers. The second is that you don't need to reciprocate the slide when dry firing. Plus the double action is your first pull so practicing with snap caps requires no reset. Finally, the safety aspect of it. As someone who carries a Beretta 92x appendix with a TLR1-HL in a PHLSTER Floodlight; it's nice to be able to reholster with my thumb on the hammer.

      Only thing i dislike is if you watch military arms channel his gauntlet series. Hammer fired guns regularly fail to drop the hammer on the firing pin because of debris.

    • @JoshBenware
      @JoshBenware 3 года назад

      It's also bad for dry fire because you cant practice the follow up single action shot. With striker fired you can simply put a piece of paper in the breach face to stop the slide from going fully back into battery, then you can do follow up shots that are similar to the trigger pull for rapid fire, drills, etc

    • @Bankston94
      @Bankston94 3 года назад

      @@JoshBenware I do pull back the hammer and occasionally do fire, reciprocate, aim again and pull. You’re correct that a DA will be the only trigger pull during dry fire if you don’t cock the hammer. However… striker fired handguns have no way to reset the trigger either so it’s kinda apples to oranges. Plus learning not to jerk a DA trigger has helped me not jerk SA triggers.

    • @jamesmaysflyingwashingmach7459

      This is true, however states like Florida also receive income from gun sales.
      Even if Constitutional Carry is passed, background review applications to purchase firearms are still needed per federal law. You pay a fee for this when you purchase a firearm, and who collects a portion of the money? The state! So the increased gun sales that will result from a constitutional carry bill (and let's be frank, a lot more people will buy guns if they know they won't have to deal with bureaucracy to carry them) should FAR outweigh lost revenue from CCW permit fees. Everyone's happy, the consumer, the state and the store owners.

    Yeah - hammer sa/da with dc or dc/safety is my preferred setup too -- its an "old mans setup" but since i am an old man its fine for me :). There are some subtleties in how various striker and hammer designs work but I think i would divide them based on rotational vs linear movement of the primer force mechanism . Hammers are pinned at one end and rotate around to strike the primer or the firing pin (the firing pin if separate does move linear but its only transferring energy from the hammer/hammer spring with the firing pin spring pushing the pin away from the primer) . The striker fired gun has a linear source of energy -- but there are quite a few different designs out there so these are general comments only - exceptions apply. The various designs of triggers, transferbars, firing pins,strikes etc are very interesting -- interesting to note that to a large extent, the basic design of the handgun has not changed much over 120 years -- sure better materials, more safety features, ergonomics, better sights but if you handed a modern gun to John Browning, there would be much he would recognize from his time.

      An argument can be made that the second and subsequent light trigger pulls are responsible for the most negligent discharges after a shot has been fired.
      You may say that is on the shooter and you would be right, but the first shot is on the shooter also so a single action or light trigger/ short reset striker pistol would be more ideal fort that crucial first shot than a double action auto, no?

      The incredibly experienced Paul Harrel has done extensive testing on magazine spring compression and applying the exact same concept to a striker spring because physically they’re exactly the same, you can go years fully cocked (compressed) without a single gram of decompression lost. Your gun will rust and rot before your spring loses force. Gun Blue is another tuber who worked in the S&W factory as a Smith for years who concludes the same regarding the physics of springs.

    Pretty good explanation but technically, in both designs the springs are always in a state of compression.
    I’ve never thought about the fact that the striker pin in striker fired handguns are normally in the most compressed state. I guess that leaves them more susceptible to memory issues, effectively reducing its life, potentially. Interesting problem.

    Hammer and safety all the way. Can those things be improved on? Hell yeah they can. However improving doesn't mean "do away with". I want safeties so I can just cram my pistol into a beach or belly bag and be able to gently move stuff around in them a good bit without stressing over a possible trigger snag. In something like a beach bag a holster is just another needless obstacle to overcome while drawing the firearm.

      @@JoshBenware It does matter. There are age restrictions for carry, for example it is 19 in missouri and 21 in Oklahoma. I believe permitless carry in N. Dakota it only applies to residents. Also, Concealed carry permit reciprocity is different depending on the state that issued the permit and which states recognize the permit, for example only 36 states recognize a Missouri issued permit, and every state can have additional restrictions such as age, local, and method.
      What's obnoxious is blanket statements without context.

      That doesn't automatically mean worse just because it's got more parts. Both are reliable. A DA/SA is the best fire mechanism for a handgun in my opinion. It's more safe and can be mkee accurate.

      @@brianj3626 I know we all do deserve to get compensated but we work for less then what we wish for. I live under the triple threat here in the State of New York - Cuomo, Schumer, and Gillibrand.
    From those unfamiliar with NY State - half of us (8 million) live in suburban-to-rural areas, and the other half of the population that sinks 2A here live in NY City.
    NY City has five boroughs, four of which are lib/dem and then you have Staten Island which votes Con/Rep.
    It is like NY City is always trying to drown you - 8 million people who override rights.
    Will we ever get Constitutional Carry here? Not likely.
    However, there is always hope with the way Cuomo has messed up. Perhaps a rescinding of more parts of the SafeAct.
    Always tension with NY City when you live in this State.

    Great info on these two different mechanisms. On a different note, do yourself a favor and trust someone to help you know what to wear and not to wear. Your shirt is so negatively distracting, it's hard to pay attention to your content. You are creating an associating between a pig's face and your face, not to mention raising the question about your level of common sense in other areas of you life. I say to this to help you, not as a put-down.
