      Another huge sign (in my opinion) is your losses/amount played begins to little by little creep up over a long period of time. I look at myself, and 10 years ago if I lost $200 I’d be devasted. In more recent times if I lost $1,200 I’d just shrug my shoulders and say “oh well” We begin to get numb to what we lose over time, and it continues to crepp upward to the point that losing thousands is “normal”
      Thank you for making these videos though, its helping put things in perspective and keep me on the better path, and thats very much appreciated.

      I would say going alone is a big one as well. When i was first introduced to the casino it was always with friends, but after a while i started to think that being there with people was just going to slow me down.

    • @AntonDaniels
      @AntonDaniels  5 лет назад +9

      HuckFillary I don’t think “chasing” the perks are worth it. The perks just come with the territory. Realistically, once you really start getting big perks, you realize you’ve paid for the 10 times over with your play.

    My name is Frederick and I’m a gambling addict. I haven’t placed a bet, or wagered anything of value to me in over 10 years. But there was a time when I would gamble my entire check on one throw of the dice. I’m not proud of that time in my life and my addiction almost cost me my home, military career, and my life. My question to you is do you still think about gambling? There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about gambling or the research I use to put into betting on sports. I use to conduct surveillance on athletes in Southern California to give myself an edge in betting. My name is Frederick and I’m a gambling addict.

      Gambling can be more dangerous than drinking. It can and does effect your mind. Suicide may seem like the only answer at times. GAMBLERS ANONYMOUS can help but so can therapy and medication. It can be overcome but will always haunt.

My car got report, and she was hardly paying bills while I was deployed. Once I blacked out four months of coming back, I was about to make a fatal mistake, and end her life, but I stepped back, left with our two kids, went to the bank, and got bank statements from April 03- February 04, and my ATM card snitched on her. She didn't think I was that smart, and from there, relationship went down hill, and 06, we separated.

Depression that causes you to not be happy unless your in the casino. 12. No longer feeling any kind of rush from wins or losses (stone face during win and loss).
    I currently cannot go to a casino or Ill get triggered. Luckily those gambling days are behind me now especially since I make a lot more now and have ppl depending on me.

    Great video! So true!
    I was a compulsive gambler for years. This past December about 2 weeks before I sold some things to a friend for $400 to do Christmas shopping. I ended up losing it all at the casino an hour later.
    That was the last straw for me. I haven’t gambled a dime since and here I am 3 months later and I don’t even think about it anymore. One thing I keep in mind that helps is even if I won $500 or whatever, how many times did I lose before that? I’d still be in the negative. I watch people scratch lotto tickets now and think of what a waste of money it is. It’s just a tax on stupid people. For every “big” winner there’s many, many big losers. I don’t want any part of the gambling life anymore.

    Casino's do not lose money they make money. Casino's always advertise about someone winning 5 million or 10 million dollars. Did that casino go bankrupt because someone won money. Not hardly. People gamble because they like the action not because they win money. If you are addicted you already know this. You can lie to the people around you but you deep down know the truth. What you want to do about this is always up to you. No one else can make you or talk you out of gambling. Its up to you.

      Ed530 actually some people gamble because they hope to win a decent amount. They may be disorganized with their finances, have a hard time saving up and when they need something, example a 3000$ vacation well they try to hit a few good shots to make that amount. It’s a very problematic approach to life but some people actually think this way versus well planning their budget.

    Playing scared is the worst feeling! I was never addicted to gambling but I had a goal of becoming a professional poker player. When I started, my bankroll management strategy was stupid. I ended up playing way too high, which essentially game me 0% chance of winning, due to playing scared. Then, I adhered to s strict bankroll. I was winning so regularly, I took time off work and managed to pay my bills. That wasn't smart either because NEEDING to win, is the surest way to lose in the long run, at poker. I stopped playing after the biggest poker site practically made it impossible to make a living out of it. I miss the game but I do not miss the stress.

    One aspect that needs to be addressed is how people view money. How much of an emotional connection they might have with money and how they manage their money can determine the quality of their decision making.
    People who aren't addicted to gambling take care of their bills on time period. People who aren't addicted to gambling have balance in their lives. People who aren't emotional about their money, don't chase after losses.
    Professional winning poker players (long term) don't waste their earnings from the poker table. They instead are frugal and careful about every dollar that is earned and hold on to as much of it as they can at all times because they understand there is negative variance in poker that is always just around the corner. They weather those storms.
    People who are addicted to gambling, won't have the ability to comprehend anything that involves strict disciple. These are the very people the winning players devour at the poker tables.

I Hope the world wakes up before we hit the tipping point... we may have already hit it.

      " If you can’t control it then leave it alone" That's the problem. That's why you can't leave it alone!
      Only a change of mindset can help you. And that, you sometimes have to get from someone who cares. Intervention time.

    Hey man, I just started watching your videos. I definitely appreciate the videos man. I am a bit of a gambler and I have definitely blown paychecks on gambling. My whole family has gambling problems. My mom recently wanted to commit suicide because she gambled so much and lost so much. I have gotten to the point where I am trying to get my life back. I still go every once in awhile to casino, but now I just set a little money to the side for gambling, and when I have enough money and go to casino, I live my debit card and credit cards home and only spend the money I had saved for it.

    If you do have a gambling problem, gradually spend less and less each time you go. Very last time, take only 20$ and play. You will realize, I just spent over an hour of my labor just to lose it in 5 min. Then the reality sets in.

    Blaming others for one’s own losses. An example would be, when a new player sits down at a table, and the dealer gets a blackjack. That was random chance, however the gambler with a problem sees it as an opportunity to blame the new guy, when in reality, no one forced anyone to continue to play when another hand was added.

All mentally considerations aside, it's apples to apples.

Long term-you play Craps long enough-you're absolutely going to walk away a loser. It's absolutely predetermined. The same can't be said of the stock market.

It's good to do more productive things with your time. No matter how good you play, you will get screwed sooner or later. Those "pros" you see on tv or that know of are mostly broke. They are usually sponsored or loaned money. You wont believe how many of them are broke. Its difficult to stop at first, but the more time that goes by without playing, the less you miss playing. I think I'm probably an addict. I can play poker for hours upon hours, stay level headed, and crush. But when I start to tilt, I get completely out of control. I'll go from decent profit from a day of poker, to losing everything at table games that I have online from one tilting hand of poker. Then I feel like smashing my head into a wall. And a few days later I do the same shit again.

      Yes my friend, the emotional attachment and dedication to playing is a clear sign.

    • @raven7389
      @raven7389 5 лет назад

      So basically you're playing poker for hours, and then start gambling and lose. Advantage play requires an emotional detachment from the money, and the results. If you're not an AP, or you're an underfunded AP, you shouldn't be playing at all.
      Edit: I re read this and want to apologize. It sounded preachy and I didn't mean it to. I guess what I should have said at the end is play within your means. If you don't play at all, your bankroll will never grow based on your skill. You can have a replenishing bankroll, but a good measure of success is net positive EV added back to your roll. It will keep you focused, and on track. Set goals and keep ROR within your emotional window of comfort. Sorry if I seemed harsh before.

    One more thing... I dont get casino cards... I win my comps... I am not into casino socialism... aka.... bribing players with comps is how casinos build an addictive clientele base. If they comp people to much the give away to much.. . If they comp to little people wont return as much and revenues will decline.... this is why they want you to have a card that they can track your play with... so that can calculate the proper comp percentage for each player based on how much they lost.

    Thank you Anton. Very good video and I agree with all you said. One question - do you think someone who has a gambling problem, realizes it and quits for a long period, but then tries to gamble responsively and only once in a while, can keep it under control? This is happening to me. So far I have been gambling occasionally, set a limit, and kept to it, and never betting too much. The thing is - I enjoy it, not for the winning, but the social comradery(sp?) with the dealers and the players. I would play for fake money if I could. Not as interested in winning as having a good time. What do you think?

This was right before they changed over to the tickets instead of coins. Slots haven't been the same since.

    I love gambling/gaming and I see signs of my own addictive behavior but I don't think I'll cross that fine line where I will risk rent money or any other monies other than entertainment. But I do itch to go sometimes which makes me fearful of possibly gambling with money that I do not have. That itself is the risk and something I think most people live with.
