On non-abs models the single wheel speed sensor is compared with the gearbox speed sensor for rough road detection which similar to low fuel level pids suppress any misfire codes that are flagged up. Rover used the same system in the 1990's
I had to replace both front hubs on my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer for speed sensor problems and also bearing problems. Both of the sensors were bad and the left hub the bearings were creating a real loud roar. The right hub, the bearings were creating noise, but not very loud. Eric I follow your leed on this because I have 2011 Kia Rio same issue while replacing the wheel bearings w/o abs and speedometer worked but engine light on. I have a Kia Spectra with no ABS. Same setup you have there. I found out that if that sensor is bad you will never be able to set those three things to "Ready" because the wheel speed sensor feeds the PCM the speed signal. So you won't pass the state emissions inspection tests. If you had done a bit more 55mph driving they probably would have set (at least the Catalyst and O2 sensor)
It’s just amazing to me that the HYUNDAI only has close to 62,000 miles on it from what the odometer said and you’re expecting it to be in the junkyard in a year or two. It’s also amazing how the rust factor is different from state to state and how bad it is in upstate New York.

I changed the wheel speed sensor on my 03 Toyoter Prerunner. The sensor busted off just like the one on the Hyundai. I drilled mine out too. Took a little emery cloth and cleaned out the hole and reinstalled the new one, ABS light turned off after install of the new part.
My Matco ratchet finally let go and gave it to the tool guy for warranty r/r; he asked what's these impact marks on the side, I replied musta be those forging marks when they made it, he looked sideways at me and commented uh huh.... Cool guy, got a sparkly new ratchet.
We had the same problem. garage replaced with a napa sensor but the problem came back about a mile down the road. replaced it with a Hyundia part and as soon as the car gets to 25 to 30 mph, the code comes back. drove it that way until to much rust to pass a safety inspection. For sale cheap!!!
I had an 09 Kia sportage... P0501 new sensor installed.... Short and sweet innition 2 was only putting out 10.42volts was messing up abs module in pass side of engine bay. Client did not want to find compromised harness... "just run another wire" I was told.... It fixed it but I didn't and don't like it. I guess you can't do everything rite. Cool find cool fix I need to remember that.
Sometimes I just wish you live in Florida. I wouldn't mind to drive wherever in the state just to come and visit your shop. Then I remember I drive a Toyota and I forget about it.
This was the best: torque sideways on the drill bit and break it; do not use screwdriver as pry bar or chisel; and "Nope. Nope. Got it..nope. There, first try."
The speed sensor for the speedometer is located on the transmission. Had the same trouble code on my '03 Kia Rio. Unfortunately I wasted the $$ replacing the sensor when the real problem was corrosion in the wiring harness under the hood. Giant pain in the ass to figure out, took me ages to track it down. I never did learn what this single wheel speed sensor is for, must be something the ECU uses.
I love your videos, you, your family etc. but they don't call you Dr. O cuz you are a dentist! you made me laugh and cry watching this one. thanks Dr. O
That relic appeared to be a 1964 Oldsmobile 88 four door sedan. It would most likely have come with a 394 cu in v8 and may have had a 3 speed roto matic transmission, in fact it most likely did and they were junk, I think all the 98s had the four speed hydramatic although they had the same base engine.. Yes that was back in the day when you could just look at a car and know what year, make and model it was. Now I can't tell which manufacturer the car is most of the time and as far as the year that is almost impossible for me. Of course back then if you got 100,000 miles on a car you would have changed the plugs and points about 5 or 6 times, had to have had it aligned 2 or 3 times, changed the belts about 3 or 4 times and the tires would last maybe 20,000 miles. The car would be totally worn out. Yeah they don't make them like they used to.
I have to say. I really do appreciate the lack of cussing in your vids. Not like the other auto tech channels where every other word is an f-Bomb

Another good informative video. Better than network TV !
You look like a dentist working on a big cavity. Good work Eric the orthodontist.
The bridge is out so it means more brake jobs. Eric reminds me of a dentist celebrating the new candy shop in town.
Every ratchet is ...a hammering device lol ...nailed it!
Making the job easier for the guy at the Pull-A-Part.
Sometimes I just wish you live in Florida. I wouldn't mind to drive wherever in the state just to come and visit your shop. Then I remember I drive a Toyota and I forget about it.
The preventative measures on cars like that are great! At junkyards I know that is an easy part to remove!
Likely because we have throw away vehicles now after 5 years.
I love those ratchet/ hammer combo tools, I have a few myself.
This was the best: torque sideways on the drill bit and break it; do not use screwdriver as pry bar or chisel; and "Nope. Nope. Got it..nope. There, first try."
I like relics. as a non-pro DIY guy they are much easier to work on IMO.
Great sunday morning, new SMA video, wet F1 race, what else can you ask for?... too early for a beer?
It looked like your thumbnail said Hyundai Accent with POS code 😂 Love your show.
Yes to both! German GP was best race of year so far.
Hello from the north.Great sunday morning video
Thanks for the breakfast entertainment.
Great video. I have worked on some Hyundai's and they are weird little cars some times.
That tie road jam nuts at 3:41 is exactly why I hate wrenching in Michigan.......
Made me frustrated just looking at it!! Haha
Lol love the commentary, “rust, rust, rust, everything is rusty junk” 😂 ive said that more then once here in Ontario
I love your videos, you, your family etc. but they don't call you Dr. O cuz you are a dentist! you made me laugh and cry watching this one. thanks Dr. O
I love wearing a bright orange shirt that says DOC on it... nevermind the smaller print below ;)))))
Got me some SMA swag headed my way in NC...
Love me some SMA ! ❤️🐞
Hey Eric, can you give us a drive by if that new bridge please?
It’s amazing that some projects get finished just in the nick of time
That relic appeared to be a 1964 Oldsmobile 88 four door sedan.
That old relic looks like a 1963 Olds Dynamic 88 probably sporting the 394 cu. in. V8 motor...
