Mikaels growl was so powerful at that time
yeah, 30 years doing this kinda of vocals i think must be demanding :(
@@weirddreams_fe not if you do it right. He did, but in recent years he just stopped taking vocals
@@ggks3532 Oh please, there's always someone like you. Commenting the same bullshit "if you do it right hur durrr". Please name one vocalist whose growls are still the exact same quality as they were back when they were young. Mikael has been doing this since he was 17 freaking years old.
Well I'm pretty sure it didn't help that the guy was/is smoking like 2 packs of cigarettes a day lol
@@v-7815 I would say George “Corpsegrinder” comes close to that, that dude really has stood the test of time. Check out the videos, he almost sound the same throughout his whole career. I don’t know how he does it but compared to pretty much everyone that has been doing this vocal style for that long has fried their voice…
AkerfeldtLindgrenMendezLopez will always be the best opeth
Peter Lindgren is the best. the only one who stayed at the end saying goodbye to everyone
Everyone loved Lindgren. Him leaving the band marked the end of the classic era.
This is peak era Opeth for me…
They nailed Drapery Falls so hard.
Lopez surely did have a great cymbal game.
Lopez going to town on those drums, a sight to behold
5 songs and 50 minutes of how a masterpiece show sounds like
Wow. What a gem. First US tour. Blackwater park only a month old. Literally just playing on Nevermore's Kit, who was also touring perhaps their best album. Just wow. Shame I wasn't in the know then.
Huh, glad this showed up in my feed. I was at this show! If I remember correctly, it started super late. There were supposed to be at least two other opening bands, one of which was God Forbid, and Opeth went on first at like 10 PM. I left after Opeth because I wasn't a big Nevermore fan. I heard on an Opeth mailing list at the time that Nevermore played after Opeth, and then the two opening bands played afterwards, which seems weird to me, but I have no idea if that's what happened.
It was my second time seeing Opeth; I was one of the lucky few Americans to have seen them play in Europe before they made it to the US.
Great story man! I would of loved to have seen them live during this period. I also have a interview conducted with Mikael outside of the venue before this show I’ll be posting soon.
I was here too man! Super lucky! Seen so many good bands here. Were you at 2013 show too? Been to at least 30 shows here and some good ones at revolution too. You in the south Florida area?
Nah, the last time I saw Opeth in Florida was in 2012 in Orlando. I lived in south Florida for almost 30 years, but moved away about 7 years ago.
I definitely didn't go to as many shows as you! Most of the ones I attended were in the early 2000s. I think the last show I saw at Revolution was Devin Townsend when he was opening for Children of Bodom.
I caught that tour in Chicago at the Hard Rock late April 2001. Opeth was awesome- I became a lifelong fan that night and bought Blackwater Park the next day. Nevermore came on after them and destroyed- one of only two times they headlined in Chicago. 🤘
38:25 this is the greates part of their discohraphy. And this strat tone in the solo with mikael’s young vocals is sooo emotional to me. Feeling so lucky this is existing.
This lineup was Opeth. Much as I like Fredrik Åkesson's playing, Peter was just so right for the band. Much like Scott Gorham was for classic Thin Lizzy.
I like Fredrik better. He fits the band better
I admit it...I am hopelessly in love with Peter. Have been for years.
@@sch3py I agree, I think Fredrik adds more to the band because his voice as a guitarist is a lot more distinctive. Peter's style of lead playing is so incredibly similar to Mikael's, most of the time I can't tell them apart in terms of the solos when I'm listening to the older albums. Nowadays it's immediately clear whether it's Mikael or Fredrik and that contrast is a lot more interesting imo
Fredrik is damn perfect, lol
@@saturn5087 Yes, I agree. Fredrik is a massively talented player and technically amazing. Seen him live a bunch of times and he's flawless. If I had gotten into Opeth via Watershed or Pale Communion, I'd probably be here commenting how weird Opeth sounds with Peter and Lopez :) But my introduction was Lamentations so that era and lineup are the definitive ones for me. All highly subjective, of course.
Thanks for upload something from the best era of Opeth
Awesome, I saw this tour in Worcester in '01. I remember meeting Van Williams while Opeth was on too. He was wearing a kilt.
OMG That setlist!!! 😮🤦
Idk what's wrong with it
@@st.markkanen8796 it's Perfect 👌
verdade
Fantastic! Thanks for posting 👍🏻👌🏻
back when Mikael was not a comedian in between songs yet.
Holy s*** I believe I was there. I was in love with opeth. Awkwardly interacted with them in the parking lot. Their English was bad then. I was so starstruck. I had a joint in my pocket but I was too nervous to remember to offer it to them.
Opeth came to Las Vegas for the first time in 2003 and strangely enough, drummer Martin Lopez approached me in the parking lot and asked if I had a joint. I wasn't even a smoker, ha. He explained he needed one for his anxiety and eventually found something.
Israely love to all BEST BAND
Advent!
Fuck yeah!!!!
Muito foda. Valeu por postar brother
His vocals had no match then
Lol there Flying...omg.hyper.speed
44:30 Fender can sounds evil
Nevermore :(
Perfect, greetings from Brazil 666
Must say that i personally prefer their live performances nowadays... They just sound better! This is just going way too fast! Mikael’s growls are awesome here though but they still are fantastic, and are coming back to this style again on their current tour
I agree. Opeth's sound, especially live, has been perfected and refined over the last 15-20 years.
i think his growls sound kinda bored nowdays
Thanks you!
@@st.markkanen8796 I think he's lost some of his low end power in his screams that he used to have tbh
You could start hearing the change on Watershed but now it's extremely obvious
When he switched to that Fender...way too bright sounding for the riffs
fender guitar hahahaha
