    What I do when I am coming down to the last few drops of a fragrance that has been reformulated and I can no longer easily obtain is to take it out of my regular wear rotation and place it in my "special occasion" rotation. When I do wear them, I wear them fully. Yet, I don't wear them as often. I just find something more easily obtainable and slip that into that spot. When I'm out, I'm out. I do not worry too much. The world of fragrance is wide and I, like many, enjoy finding new, wonderful scents. And this is coming from a man who does not have a vast "RUclips-channel" vast fragrance collection. I feel like I own a lot, yet I only currently have 19 fragrances in my collection. Maybe I have had 30 fragrances since I started wearing them 17 years ago. There is a lot out there that I have not yet been introduced to. My SOTD is Houbigant Fougere Royale. I was not a big fan of this when I first tried it, but it is growing on me, especially as we get into mid spring /summertime here in the States.

    My No.19 is probably the one I would replace and of course, the ones I have now were not my first bottles. Funnily enough, I was never into backup bottles, but I do have three ~ Femme by Rochas, Une Fleur de Cassie by Malle and Cristalle eau Vert by Chanel which I upsized to the 100ml😅 Emptying any of my other bottles doesn’t concern me at this stage, in fact, I am simply happy to wear through what I have, while continuing to sample to enjoy exploring the newness out there💛

    Congrats on the empty! Something that doesn't happen often. Before I found this community, I would empty a bottle every year or two. BUT, now that I have accumulated a collection about the size of yours (70+) I'm not even close to emptying a bottle. I put dents in the bottles I have at a slow clip. The closest I have to empty is my half full Jicky 2021 75ml.
    Oh and I have 10ml left in my 2012 Eau Sauvage Perfume that I need to finish because I have the 2017. I stopped using it because I got the 2017, but I need to make more of an effort to use it up and never look back. lol

    I actually feel a sense of achievement in finishing a bottle. If I absolutely loved it, I will repurchase if available. I'm not inclined to search for discontinued perfumes nor am I afraid of reformulations.

    Great vid as always! I have a bottle of Timbuktu but am nowhere close to finishing. Still one I’m getting to know. And sadly I’ve fallen victim to the backup bottle habit even though I know I won’t finish what I already have 🤦🏻‍♂️. Need to do a culling at some point of my collection.

      Yeah, definitely FOMO is real with this particular hobby of ours. I used to be the same, these days i just remind myself how much undiscovered stuff is out there.

    Thanks Pep for another great video and some great choices as always. I have to say I’m quite torn when a bottle I know I can’t replace is running out I do get a bit stingy with using it however I have to remind myself it’s there to be enjoyed so I use it anyway. Hope you have a lovely week ☺️

    Another opoponax you might want to check out is Acqua di Parma's Note di Colonia IV. It has a passing resemblance to Santa Maria Novella's Opoponax, both in terms of notes and general vibe. But I find it less medicinal, with a more prominent rose note, and a fair bit brighter and amenable to wearing in warmer weather, where I find SMN too thick. I'm a huge fan of SMN, but I actually prefer AdP's iteration on the theme.

      Yes, that A d P one has veen mentioned to me. I'll see if they stock it at my local retailer.

      @@TheScentinel I may have been the one who mentioned the AdP. I don't remember. My mind isn't what it used to be. Apologies if I've been repetitive. 😂

    Timbuktu is a difficult one to say goodbye for me. Same bottle for 15 years and had to be in the mood for it. Now I love it and I’m not keen on the new one. 10 ml left.

    • @TheScentinel
      @TheScentinel  5 месяцев назад

      I understand, enjoy that 10ml.

  • @wagstaff6135
    @wagstaff6135 5 месяцев назад +2

    Of course the "Saying Goodbye" had me triggered... NO!.... but no, it's the bittersweet goodbye to a beloved bottle... I'm with you, I'm not sure what keeping a few sprays, unused, would be for -- like waiting for some theoretical perfect occasion that calls for that scent? Like an "emergency" would require it? So yeah, I think I just wear it when I want, and if it's gone either replace or move on, as you said, depending on availibility, finances, price, looking for a new love,... On another note, I'd be curious to know if you have tried Fzotic Vetiverissimo (terrible name). That's a real soliflore Vetiver, might not be something you'd like. I'd love to know your reaction if you ever do try it (or if you already have).

    • @TheScentinel
      @TheScentinel  5 месяцев назад +2

      I might have tried it years ago, but honestly can't recall my reaction. I am general not a fan of heavy, thick vetivers.

    • @wagstaff6135
      @wagstaff6135 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheScentinel I wouldn't desribe the Fzotic as heavy or thick -- in fact I think maybe "transparent" is more applicable -- but it is all vetiver! (or a mix of synthetic vetivers?) I am not 100% sure how I feel about it, myself!

      Normally, i would not keep the bottle unless there was a particular sentimental attachment to it. I have already promised this Timbuktubbottle to someone who collects them.
